Once Upon A Dream
is a Twisted Wonderland romance fanfic by AvionVadion.
The author has also released a series of explicit What If? shorts called Once Upon A Maybe.
Tropes include:
- Ascended Extra: The Diasomnia dorm as a whole gets this, going from minor recurring characters to major supporting characters. Lilia especially, since he plays a major role in the backstory.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Played With in regards to Crewel. His first appearance in canon shows off his Sadist Teacher side, while events would show he does care about the students. In this story, thanks to Adaptational Early Appearance, he shows it off much sooner. Also Played With with the case of Leona. In-game, he threatens to maul Yuu; he actually does here and apologizes for it, but only because he strangled a girl.
- Darker and Edgier: While canon could get dark at times, no one was suffering from a life-threatening curse.
- Deconstructed Trope: Of the
Fandom-Specific Plot of Yuu gaining a Unique Protagonist Asset. Eleanora does aquire a powerful magic, in the form of an ancient, powerful, and if left alone, deadly curse. If she had remained in her own world, the curse would have stayed in it's slightly more manageable from of asthma. Coming to Twisted Wonderland activated it in full. - Early-Bird Cameo: Lilia, Crewel, Jade, Jack, and Rook all appear long before their canonical introductions.
- The Fair Folk: While this has always been a part of Malleus' and Lilia's characterizations, this story really puts it at the forefront. Malleus very briefly considers imprisoning El when he takes her flying.
- Humanoid Abomination: The curse Maleficient cast on Ellis is this. It's a living river of ink that takes on a form that's barely recognizable as human.
- Insane Troll Logic: Eleanora keeps making up excuses as to why Mr.Horns just can't be Malleus Draconia, even when the evidence is staring her right in the face. It's revealed to be an Invoked Trope because she really doesn’t want to deal with the fallout of crushing on a Prince.
- Only Sane Woman: Eleanora is most certainly this. However, she does have moments of Not So Above It All.
- Yandere: One of the tags outright says Malleus has Yandere dragon instincts.
