NGE: Broken Sequence
is a Neon Genesis Evangelion/Higurashi: When They Cry fanfic written by Redeadlink from GameFAQs and amvhell.
There are several distinct changes from the main canon for both series, including a 6 year age-up for the cast, and Shinji's marriage to Shion.
This fic provides examples of the following:
- Canon Discontinuity: All of the filler chapters are entirely unrelated to the main story
- Chase Scene: There's one involving some Yakuza, Shinji and Shion, and Keiichi and Mion
- Curbstomp Battle: The Angels are consistently defeated by Shinji without much effort on his part. Conversely, the Angels end up on the giving end of this during their first encounter with Ramiel.
- Dead Fic: Hasn't been updated since 2014.
- Dropped a Bridge on Him: Rei is rather unceremoniously killed off in the first chapter, but Gendo has backups.
- Eating the Eye Candy: Shinji's first appearance in a plugsuit leads to catcalls from every female in the room, barring Shion, who just rolls her eyes at everyone else, and Maya Ibuki.
- Neck Snap: Shinji gets this treatment in the third filler chapter.
- Off the Rails: Shion fell in love with Shinji instead of Satoshi, for reasons unexplained. Shinji disappears to Hinamizawa for several years, before returning to Tokyo-3.
- We Have Reserves: Gendo can merely activate a new Rei if the current Rei is killed.
