My Little Pony: Nakama is Magic is a crossover between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and One Piece created by Hotspot the 626th (also known as Hotspot0626, in some places). Taking place after season one of My Little Pony and the Skypiea arc, it is an adaptation of One Piece with the mane six and Spike joining the Straw Hat crew.

Despite the starting point, this fanfic assumes you already know of a big reveal from later on in One Piece, specifically right before the timeskip. As such, this spoiler will be unmarked.

The author made many changes to the backstories of both universes, most notably regarding Luffy and Twilight's childhoods: Luffy, Ace, and Sabo grew up in Canterlot along with Twilight, who became a fourth sworn sibling to them.

When the Straw Hats fall from Skypiea and land in Ponyville, Twilight and Spike are stoked to see Luffy again. After the Straw Hats help defeat Discord and help Twilight with her anxiety over being tardy with her friendship reports, the mane six and Spike decide to take a vacation and join the pirates on their adventures, starting with Long Ring Long Land.

It ended after the Enies Lobby arc, with an open end inviting other writers to take up sequels. There is at least one author planning a sequel, but nothing has been written yet.

The author has since returned to this universe, beginning writing an interquel called The Friendship Chronicles, a collection of short stories meant to bridge the gap between the first full story and a potential future sequel.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The flashback of Luffy's childhood is told in the first few chapters rather than waiting until after the Marineford arc.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Besides Chopper's Devil Fruit powers, all humans are now ponies or other mythological creatures.
  • Alien Blood: When the Straw Hats actually manage to hurt him, Discord spits up green blood.
  • The Alliance: Equestria organizes one with other enemies of the Black Empire, including Alabasta, the Drum Kingdom, and Water 7.
  • Berserk Button: Hurting Twilight, for Luffy. Understandable given their past.
  • Break the Cutie: None of the mane six have been in a near-death situation before, so they're understandably shaken up both after the encounter with Aokiji and after getting curb-stomped by CP9.
  • Brother–Sister Team: Luffy and Twilight, who are sworn siblings, pair up a lot.
  • The Cavalry:
    • The Mane Six showing up to aid the Straw Hats at Enies Lobby. And then the crew of the Golden Alicorn show up to help them all escape.
    • Princess Celestia personally leads the Equestrian military in coming to Water 7's defense when the Black Empire attacks.
  • Cool Big Bro: Luffy to Spike, who calls him "Big Bro Luffy".
  • Crossover:
    • The students of Honnouji Academy appear as members of the Navy.
    • The Straw Hats meet the members of Fairy Tail in the first story of The Friendship Chronicles.
  • Dressed to Plunder: After deciding to join the crew, the Mane Six dress up as stereotypical pirates. It was Rarity's idea.
  • Easily Forgiven: Spike to Franky after the latter promises to give him gems as part of his apology for his Family beating him up.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Rainbow Dash's childhood nickname of "Rainbow Crash" becomes her pirate name, much to her displeasure.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Besides Luffy and Chopper, Pinkie Pie and Spike also don't recognize that Sogeking is Usopp.
  • Flat "What": Luffy's reaction to being told Twilight and her friends are being sent after Discord.
  • Furry Reminder: Fujitora, an anthropomorphic tiger, grooms himself like a real cat upon meeting Celestia.
  • Gemstone Assault: Rarity tries to use the shards of a broken gem as weapons against CP9.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Everypony uses honorifics and the word "nakama", including the mane six.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: The mane six and Spike to the Straw Hat crew, up until they officially join the crew after following them to Enies Lobby.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Funkfreed, thanks to Fluttershy.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Fluttershy believes she is useless and kicks herself for being the only one not to do anything during the fight against CP9 in Iceburg's room. She grows out of it when she saves Funkfreed.
  • Horn Attack: The unicorn ponies do this a lot. Particularly CP9 who, not having fingers, use a horn equivalent of Shigan (which is only still called Shigan because the author doesn't know what "Horn Pistol" would be translated as in Japanese).
  • Human Cannonball: Spandam, thanks to Pinkie's Party Cannon, is launched at one of the Buster Call ships.
  • I'm Having Soul Pains: While having one's unicorn horn broken off obviously leaves an observable injury, it does send unimaginable pain coursing through one's entire body.
  • I'm Taking Him Home with Me!: Porche has this reaction to Spike.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Celestia is said to rival Boa Hancock in terms of beauty. However, she doesn't share Hancock's status of Even the Girls Want Her.
  • Irony: The Elements of Freedom confine their target.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: The Elder Stars of the Black Empire call off the attack on Water 7 when they realize it'll risk a war with Equestria and its allies, something they're not ready for.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Luffy/Ace/Sabo and Twilight, due to being sworn siblings.
  • Love Dodecahedron: Spike has a crush on Rarity. Rarity and Applejack both have a crush on Sanji, who has a crush on everypony including Nami, who has her eyes set on Luffy.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Spike receives one when he accompanies Usopp on pursuing the Franky Family after they steal their money.
  • Oh, Crap!: After Rarity steals Fukurou's key, he has this reaction upon realizing that he doesn't know whether or not it was the one for Robin's hoof-cuffs.
    • Sogeking says it after he accidentally hoof-cuffs Zoro and Pinkie Pie together.
    • All of the Straw Hats react like this when the Black Empire's Navy shows up at Water 7.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: Unlike the other Straw Hats, Franky is a Minotaur in this setting.
  • Papa Wolf: When Garp finds out that the World Government has put a bounty on Twilight, his adopted granddaughter, he goes berserk and has to be restrained from attacking Akainu.
  • Playing with Fire: Trixie's attack spell, Fire Trick.
  • Portal Door: Jack Silver's signature spell.
  • Precision F-Strike: Twilight calls Spandam a dumbass. She's slightly shocked by her own language.
  • Promoted to Love Interest: Nami likes Luffy in this story, but of course it's one-sided.
  • Punched Across the Room: Rainbow Dash deals one out to a Franky Family member during the assault on the Franky House.
  • Quit Your Whining: Zoro to Spike after he cries about the possibility of being in Foxy's crew.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Pinkie Pie after Zoro suggests cutting his own leg off.
  • Reformed Bully: Gilda changes her attitude after Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash save her from drowning.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Gold Roger and Celestia are uncle/niece.
  • Sapient Ship: The Going Merry, as per canon, though she starts talking sooner due to Discord getting loose.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: The mane six decide to defy the Black Empire and help rescue Robin.
  • Sequel Hook: The epilogue has several — Celestia's worries that a war with the Black Empire is coming, a Black Empire expedition and King Sombra separately being shown awaiting the Crystal Empire's return, Chrysalis abducting and replacing Cadence, Luna fighting alongside the Sailor Scouts, a cameo by Brook, and apparent time travelers from the future arrive at the Tree of Harmony.
  • Shipper on Deck: Usopp, Sanji, and Franky really enjoy the thought of Chopper being in love with Fluttershy.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Last time Celestia let Roger take over duties for raising and lowering the moon, he left it up all day, resulting in the "Day of Black Sun''.
    • One of the Golden Alicorn crew members bears a resemblance to Fifi La Fume. Captain Jack Silver himself is a reference to Captain Jack Sparrow. He even references one of Sparrow's lines at one point.
Jack Silver: I am Captain Jack Silver! And this will be the day you all remember as the day you almost captured the Straw Hat pirates!
    • Water 7's bank is staffed by goblins.
    • The capital of the Black Empire is Las Noches.
    • Upon seeing the Black Navy fleet descending on Water 7, Jack can only say "Great Scott."
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Gold Roger is still alive and was never even a pirate.
  • A Storm Is Coming: In the epilogue, Celestia states her belief that Equestria and the Black Empire are inevitably on the way to war.
  • Suddenly Speaking: The Going Merry temporarily gains sentience thanks to Discord's influence.
  • Tears of Fear: Fluttershy during the fight in the Galley-La Headquarters.
  • Teleportation Rescue: Twilight often teleports herself and someone else out of the way of an attack.
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: The author tends to state, "X character felt Y emotion," rather than convey it through dialogue or action.
  • The War Has Just Begun: Aokiji says as much after the Straw Hats' victory at Enies Lobby.
  • Twice Shy: Fluttershy and Chopper like each other, but neither can work up the confidence to admit it. It results in many a Crush Blush.
  • "Wanted!" Poster: After joining the Straw Hats, the Mane Six and Spike get these.
  • Weaponized Teleportation: Twilight teleports Luffy, who is under the effect of the Slow-Slow Beam, above Trixie so that he falls on top of her when the effect wears off.
  • The Worf Effect: Applejack and Rainbow Dash, the strongest of the mane six, get curb-stomped by CP9 in Iceburg's room.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The Franky Family, who beat up Spike for the Straw Hats' money.
  • You Leave Him Alone!: When Gilda roars at Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash's reaction is to yell, "Hey! Leave Fluttershy alone!"
