A Star Wars Rebels fanfic series, Mirrorverse by TariSilmarwen, goes AU from during the events of "Through Imperial Eyes".

Has six installments.

  • Cracks in the Mirror: "Through Imperial Eyes" AU. Thrawn gets to Ezra's cell first.

  • Splinters: Ezra still has scars from his torture on the Chimaera. But luckily his family is determined to be there for him.

  • Shatterpoint: Maul kidnaps Ezra, convinced he is the only one who can keep the boy safe.

  • Broken Shards: Alternate ending to "Shatterpoint". What if Ezra didn't win his freedom from Maul?

  • Reflections: Ezra deals with the aftermath of being kidnapped by Maul and the Ghost crew comes home to Lothal at last.

  • Swept Pieces: Final story in the "Mirrorverse" series. Ezra prepares to face his past, confront the man who ordered his torture, and free the people of Lothal for good.

These fanfictions contain examples of:

  • Adaptation Deviation: The whole series plays out on this by having Thrawn reach Ezra’s cell before Kallus can during "Through Imperial Eyes".
    • Likewise, Reflections and Swept Pieces play out canon events differently due to the events of previous stories.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Ezra starts begging for Maul to let him go. But Maul isn’t having it.
  • Anger Born of Worry:
    • Mart’s friends are quite upset with his stunt of taking an X-Wing and almost flying off to go after Thrawn.
    • Sabine gets distressed with Ezra when he runs off into the jungle and gets lost in Splinters.
      • Much later in Swept Pieces when Ezra pulls his Heroic Sacrifice over Lothal she is very upset and lets him know it when she finds him.
    • Hera is angry with Ezra and Sabine when they steal the TIE defender and notes to herself that she is going to ground them afterwards.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Part of the new Force ability that Ezra gains in Shatterpoint has him looking for a single point, a weak spot, that can be broken to bring something down.
    • This is how he is able to defeat Maul and escape.
    • He is able to do this on a planetary scale in Reflections.
  • Babies Ever After: Jacen of course.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Maul really doesn’t like being compared to Sidious.
    • Getting his plans screwed up is one for Thrawn.
  • Break the Cutie: Ezra isn't the same after his Cold-Blooded Torture as stories after Cracks in the Mirror show.
  • Big Damn Heroes: A long series of them. Kallus saving Ezra from further torture. Then Kanan and Rex saving them from recapture. Hera’s arrival with Dr. Leslynn to get the tracker out of Ezra. Finally, the arrival of the Mandalorians, led by Sabine, to save the crew from Konstantine, and destroy his ship.
    • Sabine gets to be one again at the climax of Swept Pieces when she shoots Thrawn in the back as he is trying to kill Ezra.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Sabine lays one on Ezra during the battle for Lothal letting him know her feelings for him.
  • Big Damn Reunion: After two weeks of imprisonment, Ezra escapes Maul and is quickly reunited with his friends.
  • Bound and Gagged: Ezra is not a cooperative prisoner, so Maul resorts to this.
  • Brutal Honesty: Kallus is a little more forward in telling Ezra he isn’t ready for missions yet during Splinters. Its only because he cares.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: By the end of Reflections, Sabine admits to herself that she is in love with Ezra, but it isn’t until the battle for Lothal in Swept Pieces that she finally tells him with a Big Damn Kiss.
  • Catapult Nightmare: Ezra starts to have these after his ordeal in Cracks in the Mirror.
  • Ceiling Cling: Attempted by Ezra in Cracks in the Mirror but he was found out by Pryce and stunned, causing him to fall to the ground, painfully.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Imperial outpost that Maul stops at after kidnapping Ezra comes up later as a lead for the Ghost crew to follow.
    • A double example. When they are on Maul’s tail, Sabine tries to find where he parked his ship. When Chopper can’t find any gauntlets in the port's database, she remembers how Maul made his ship register as a Zygerrian freighter back on Corensia and is able to use that to find the ship and plant a tracker on it. The same tracker that Maul put on the Ghost.
  • Children Are Innocent: Well not innocent from the Empire’s perspective, but Yularen still sees a child being tortured as going too far, Rebel or not.
  • Clingy MacGuffin. Not a literal example but Sabine tries to pass off the darksaber to Ezra after Bo-Katan doesn’t take it, but he doesn't want it either, forcing her to keep the thing even though she really doesn’t want to.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Ezra is subjected to this by Thrawn and Pryce.
  • Defiant Captive: Ezra does everything he can to resist Thrawn and Pryce’s interrogation even when his own mind gets murky.
    • He later does it again when Maul kidnaps him.
  • Dehumanization: As the stories go on Thrawn stops referring to Ezra by name or as boy and starts calling him an anomaly.
  • Distressed Dude: The main plot of Cracks in the Mirror is Ezra being captured by Thrawn and tortured for information.
    • He is kidnapped in Shatterpoint by Maul, who doesn’t really treat Ezra much better.
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: There were times that Ezra had this going for him in Splinters.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Maul genuinely cares about Ezra, giving up chasing Obi-Wan when he senses Ezra in pain.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Through his force vision with Depa Billaba Ezra sees how he didn’t break from the torture and instead endured it. This makes him more confident in himself.
  • Foreshadowing: During Splinters, when Ezra makes his way back to the base from the jungle, he hears a Howler and feels a chill in the air. This was a hint to Maul’s presence that would later come up in Shatterpoint.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The plot diverts from canon when a subordinate holds Kallus up for ten minutes, allowing Thrawn to get to Ezra's cell first.
  • For Your Own Good: Maul justifies abducting Ezra this way. Since Kanan had not been able to protect Ezra from the Empire, Maul kidnaps Ezra before anything else can happen. Ezra is not in agreement.
  • Graceful Loser: Surprisingly, Maul. After Ezra finally beats him and refuses to kill him Maul sees him as a true Jedi and lets him go.
    • Averted with Thrawn, who goes into a Villainous Breakdown after Ezra completely derails everything he has built.
  • Hanging Our Clothes to Dry: After Ezra falls through some ice, Maul forces him to take his clothes off to warm up.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Throughout Splinters Ezra hates himself for falling apart so easily at the slightest trigger.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The tracker Maul planted on the Ghost comes back to bite him when Sabine puts it on the Nightbrother so the crew can find where he took Ezra.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Palpatine telling Thrawn that his obsession with Ezra will be his undoing. Thrawn has to resist rolling his eyes considering that the Emperor wants Ezra alive.
  • Hysterical Woman: Justified in Shatterpoint. Sabine is falling apart in part because she blames herself for not being able to prevent Maul from kidnapping Ezra. She doesn’t get much sleep and is emotionally all over the place.
  • I Lied: Ezra calls Maul out on this when he figures out that Maul has no intention to let him leave even if Ezra wins a duel against him. Maul doesn’t deny it.
  • In the Back: In the end Thrawn is brought down by Sabine shooting him in the back. It doesn’t kill him but it is the final push that completely breaks him.
  • I Should Have Been Better: In Shatterpoint, Sabine berates herself for not being able to stop Maul from kidnapping Ezra.
  • It's All My Fault:
    • Zeb feels like he is at fault for Ezra’s capture and torture for pushing the extraction mission for Kallus.
    • Sabine feels at fault for Ezra’s kidnapping by Maul because she was unable to stop it. It leaves her devastated.
  • I Want Them Alive!: The Emperor wants Ezra alive much to Thrawn’s chagrin.
  • Just Friends: Sabine blunders through this when Kallus ask her if she has feelings for Ezra. Probably wasn’t the best time to be asking as she was distraught over Ezra’s kidnapping.
  • Knighting: Ezra is knighted by Mace Windu during a Force vision.
  • Love-Obstructing Parents: Downplayed, Usra is hesitant at the idea of Sabine being in a relationship with Ezra due to his past trauma affecting him and other clans seeing that as a weakness.
    • Sabine, still being in denial over her feelings, is a pit peeved at the notion of Ezra being considered weak after everything he has gone through.
  • Mama Bear: Hera is ready to launch a retaliatory attack against the Empire after Ezra is tortured by Thrawn, specifically to spite Thrawn.
  • Mind Rape: Maul does this to Ezra in an attempt to force him to draw on the Dark Side.
  • Mirror Match: Ezra comes across a dark version of himself during a Force vision. The dark Ezra tries to convince him to given to the Dark Side and that it will make him stronger. However, Ezra had just regained his confidence and tells his other self off. After running his lightsaber through the dark version, the mirror Ezra is actually relieved.
  • Missing Child: In Shatterpoint, Kanan and Hera have to cope with Ezra being kidnapped by Maul, and not knowing where he is or what is happening to him. Special mention goes to when Kanan hears that Maul is looking for slave training equipment.
  • My Sister Is Off-Limits: An odd example. Zeb and Sabine are pretty sure Kanan would react badly to Sabine sleeping in Ezra's bunk with him. But that he would be mad at Sabine rather than Ezra.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Ezra starts to have these.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Inflicted on Ezra by Maul in Chapter 16 of Shatterpoint, to provoke Ezra into tapping into the Dark Side. Ezra legitimately believes Maul intends to kill him.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Finding out that Maul could have taken him back in Splinters when he was alone in the jungle scares Ezra.
  • Oh, Crap!: Everyone has this reaction when they find out that the device that was planted in Ezra is not a bomb but a tracking device, forcing the rescue team to halt their return to base.
    • They have another when they figure out that Thrawn knows the location of Chopper Base anyways.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Thrawn grows increasingly agitated by Ezra as the stories move on culminating in his Villainous Breakdown.
  • Out of Focus: In Shatterpoint, Thrawn takes a backseat to Maul.
  • Papa Wolf:
    • Kanan toward Ezra.
    • Maul, in a twisted sort of way, is also one for Ezra.
    • Kallus becomes protective of Iron Squadron.
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Ezra has nightmares over his past traumatic experiences.
    • Sabine has at least one after Ezra’s return from Maul about him going missing again.
      • She has others due to the Duchess.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: When the purrgil latch on to the Chimaera Sabine begs Ezra not to leave her but it is too late at that point. She lets him know how upset she was when she finds him soon after.
  • Pregnant Badass: Hara is pregnant throughout Reflections and Swept Pieces.
  • Public Execution: Old Jho is executed by a Death Trooper after he helps the crew escape his bar.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Subverted. Pryce tries to belittle Ezra after she is captured by the Rebels. He no sells it and walks away. Shortly after in private Kanan finds out that he was shaken a bit by her, not that he thought she was right but that she was the one who tortured him and he hates her for it.
  • Revenge Before Reason:
    • At the end of Cracks in the Mirror Hera wants to hit an imperial prison to get back at Thrawn. Given that the Rebellion just took a hit they are not ready for such an operation. The others are able to talk her out of it.
    • In Splinters, Mart, filled with sorrow over losing his uncle, takes an X-Wing with the intent to make Thrawn pay for everything. Once he got into the air however, he realized there was no point as it wouldn’t bring back his uncle or father.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Pryce threatens to start killing Lothal citizens if the Rebels, in particular Ezra, don’t surrender themselves. There is no telling if she got around to doing it as everything starts to fall about for her after that.
  • Shameful Strip: Ezra initially refuses to shed his icy wet clothing in front of Maul, until Maul threatens to remove them forcefully. Ezra complies, but notes he feels safer once his clothes are back on.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Zeb admits he's this to Ezra, to help Ezra understand You Are Not Alone after his torture on the Chimaera.
    • Ezra has PTSD after being tortured, which comes back to bite him when he insists on going on a mission while still recovering.
  • Ship Tease: A lot of this between Hera and Kanan. As well as a lot of moments that develop Sabine and Ezra’s relationship.
    • Some of the funnier moments of the stories is Kallus trying to figure out the relationship between Ezra and Sabine. It drives him crazy. When Sabine gives Ezra a Big Damn Kiss he can’t keep himself from saying “I knew it”.
  • Shout-Out: When the crew arrives on Ilum to find Ezra, the Iron Squadron kids decide to join Kanan and Sabine in the search. Zeb yells at them that they haven’t finished patching him up after his fight with Maul. This bears similarity to when Threepio complains to R2 for trying to get the Falcon’s hyperdrive back up while he is still has a limb detached during The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Sleep Cute: After Ezra admits that smell, specifically the smell of Sabine's paint, keeps him grounded while trying to sleep, Sabine decides that they need to cuddle so Ezra can actually get some sleep. Apparently, they sleep through the night with Ezra's head resting on Sabine's breastplate.
  • Sleep Deprivation:
    • Ezra suffers this due to nightmares and panic attacks during Splinters. Through the help of the others he is able to get a good night's rest at the end of the story.
    • Just about everyone is having this during Shatterpoint. Sabine most of all due to being that she feels at fault for being unable to stop Ezra from being kidnapped by Maul.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Kanan survives the fuel deport explosion in large part because he wasn't on top of the fuel pod and in no small part due to Ezra’s new Force ability.
  • Spirit Advisor: Ezra gets two in the form of Depa Billaba and Mace Windu
  • Spotting the Thread: Thrawn makes a show of this while having Ezra tortured in front of Kallus before arresting him.
    • He is later able to find where Kallus made his Fulcrum transmissions from by connecting Kallus' trips to Capital City on Lothal to Ezra’s history.
  • Team Dad: Kallus takes on this role for Iron Squadron, much to his exasperation.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: The Ghost crew reluctantly ask Saw for help when they find a lead on Maul so they can find Ezra.
    • Saw calls in the favor when he wants to destroy the Imperial communication relay. Needless to say the crew isn’t thrilled to go along with it.
  • Title Drop: The story Shatterpoint gets titled dropped by Mace Windu when he explains to Ezra how he can escape his imprisonment.
  • Training from Hell: Maul forces Ezra into one to get him to tap into the Dark Side.
  • Trapped Behind Enemy Lines: Gooti, Mart and Jonner get shot down over Capital City and have to avoid enemy patrols until they are rescued by the others.
    • Likewise, Sabine and Ezra have to do the same after the kill switch in the TIE Defender they steal to provide cover for the rescue team is activated.
  • Unwanted Rescue: A dark one, Maul kidnaps Ezra believing he is keeping him safe. Ezra doesn’t agree at all.
  • Villainous Breakdown:
    • Pryce starts to frail at the edges as everything begins to fall apart for her in Reflections.
    • Thrawn starts to grow more and more irritated over how Ezra was able to endure intense torture that made others break and he can’t figure out why. He completely snaps when Ezra screws over all his plans with the purrgil and proceeds to try and kill Ezra in a murderous rage. His rage gets turned into a Villainous BSoD when Sabine shows up and shoots him in the back.
  • Villainous BSoD: After Thrawn goes into a Villanious Breakdown and tries to kill Ezra he gets shot in the back by Sabine and gets left where he lays muttering catatonically “It’s not possible” over and over again.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Sabine towards Ezra. While not an official couple in Shatterpoint, Sabine fights tooth and nail to stop Maul from taking Ezra, and only fails because she is far outclassed.
    • By Swept Pieces, when Sabine has admitted to herself that she is in love with Ezra, she punches Pryce in the face when Pryce tries to goad him. Then she threatens to kill Pryce if she ever talks to Ezra again.
      • Pryce makes casual threats against Ezra during the battle of Lothal and Sabine pulls out the darksaber to make Pryce quickly shut her mouth. By this time Sabine has kissed Ezra.
    • When Thrawn tries to kill Ezra, she shows up and shoots him in the back.
  • What Have I Done: Ezra has a moment of horror when Maul makes him use the Dark Side.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Sabine lays into Saw for pushing Ezra’s triggers. Surprisingly this has an effect on him, having been tortured himself.
  • Why Am I Ticking?: Kanan, Rex and Kallus become concerned about this when Ezra informs them that the Imperials put something inside him. Sabine however is able to tell them it is a tacker not a bomb. Doesn’t lessen the Oh, Crap! of the situation.
  • Why Did You Make Me Hit You?: Numerous variations said by Maul in true abuser fashion, after Ezra's repeated defiance or his escape attempts.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Thrawn and Pryce have no qualms over torturing Ezra.
    • Maul likewise punishes Ezra for being disobedient.
      • Kallus plays this card with Yularen, pointing out that a boy younger than Yularen's grandson is being tortured by a method banned by the Senate.
  • You Have Failed Me: Pryce gets this speech from Thrawn and she is very terrified at what might happen to her when he returns to Lothal.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Maul praises Ezra for tapping into the Dark Side of the Force and using it against him. Ezra is just horrified at what he did.
  • Xanatos Gambit: Either from Ezra breaking from the torture or through the tracking device in him, with the help of Kallus' Fulcrum transmission equipment, Thrawn was going to find Chopper Base.
