Go To

Luz was born and raised in the Boiling Isles. Her parents, the Emperor and Empress, run the place while she goes to school and hangs out with her friends.

Luz Belos: Princess of the Boiling Isles is a The Owl House fanfic by Mr. Hardcor3 where Luz is the half-human daughter of Emperor Belos, raised on the Boiling Isles instead of the human realm.

This fanfic can be read on Fanfiction.Net here.

Luz Belos: Princess of the Boiling Isles provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade:
    • Luz and Amity have been dating for years by the start of the fic, Luz's carefree personality providing Amity the emotional fulfillment her canon counterpart wouldn't have until much later in the parent series.
    • While in the parents series Amity's parents forced her to drive away Willow for her own good, here her parents only think that was what happened and they still remain friends with the Blights none the wiser.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • While Luz and Amity start out as rivals (devolving into a short "Will They/Won't They" scenario), here they're girlfriends right from the start.
    • While they still bicker at times, here Eda and Lilith are much more civil with each other.
    • While Boscha was a bully to Willow in the series, here they are friends who Relationship Upgrades into girlfriends.
  • Adaptation Species Change: While canon!Luz was all human, here she is half-human, half-witch.
  • Adaptational Heroism: While canon!Belos was a dictator, here he is portrayed as much more sympathetic and benevolent. He offers amnesty for the Owl Lady in exchange for being her new teacher (unlike his canon counterpart, who only wanted to catch her to get her portal and then tried petrifying her despite promising otherwise to Lilith), approves of Luz's relationship with Amity and even considers reforming the Coven system.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • While Amity starts out as a former friend-turned bully to Willow and Malfoy-esq rival to Luz before becoming her friend and potential love-interest, here she never broke off her friendship with Willow and the story starts with her and Luz being girlfriends.
    • In the original series, Boscha is an Alpha Bitch who genuinely believed herself superior to Luz, Willow and Gus. Here, she is friends with them and even develops a crush on Willow.
  • Amplifier Artifact: The machine Nathaniel had Burner make acts as this for him.
  • Ascended Extra: Amelia Bellflower — the green-haired girl in Boscha's grudgby team — is one of Luz's friends and the first among them to learn that Luz is the princess.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Luz was apparently a big fan of the Owl Lady and her rebellious ways before she is formally introduced as her new teacher, the first thing she does is asking her to autograph her wanted poster.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Luz being diagnosed with ADHD is one of the contributing factors to her lack of skill with magic, having gone through multiple magic teachers (Lilith included) before managing to make any breakthroughs with Eda.
  • Beat Still, My Heart: In Chapter 24, Burner was forced to work for Nathaniel in exchange for his heart being returned to him.
  • Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario:
    • Amity thinks Luz was in on Eda's cheating during their Wizard Duel and breaks up with her on the spot, only to make-up with her minutes after Luz manages to explain what really happened.
    • This happens again when Amity catches her and her twin siblings in her secret room at the library, thinking she was willfully invading her privacy when she was trying to keep her diary away from Otabin and Edric.
      Eda: Apparently, they broke up.
      Lilith: What?!
Eda: Relax, they got back together like 5 minutes later.
  • Brick Joke: In Chapter 21, Luz proposes wearing her otter onsie to Grom, she and Amity cuddling while she wears it regularly. In Chapter 23, Boscha walks in on the two doing just that.
    Boscha: Did I... interrupt something?
    Amity: I-I-I can explain!
    Boscha: I'm listening.
    Amity: I... I can't explain.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Luz, Amity and most of the characters within their age group are definitely not heterosexual. The only exception is Gus, who becomes an item with Skara.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Luz has always been eccentric ever since she was little. Special mention goes to when she was five and made it her mission to jump off every part of the playground, injuries be damned.
  • Daddy's Girl: It is stated multiple times that Luz has Belos wrapped around her finger and it shows. She even gets him to consider others learning mixed magic.
  • Embarrassing Nickname:
    • Much like in canon, Amity can't abide being called "Mittens", even by Luz.
    • When they were little, Luz would call Willow "Willy."
  • Familiar: Violet is Luz's pet dragon-palisman that she found one day in the woods.
  • Fantastic Racism: Nathaniel is incredibly racist against humans, the first decree he planned on enacting if he became Emperor would be to have them banned and Luz executed despite the fact that she's his niece.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Being half-witch and raised on the Boiling Isles, a lot of the actions that Luz facilitates or is involved in are wildly different from canon.
    • Amity doesn't give in to her parent's demands to end her friendship with Willow, instead keeping it secret from them.
    • While Eda eats Adegast at the end of "Witches Before Wizards", here Luz is the one that eats him.
    • Luz knows the Moonlight Conjuring incantation.
    • In "Understanding Willow", Willow's brain is set on fire by Amity by accident. Here, Luz's brain is set on fire by an assassin.
  • Half-Breed Angst: The fact that Luz is half-human was kept a secret until Grom revealed it to the entire school, and her half-human physiology makes learning magic come less naturally to her than her peers.
  • Heteronormative Crusader: Amity's parents are kept in the dark of their daughter's sexuality and relationship with Luz for most of the fic, only to chew her out for being a "filthy, carpet munching Lesbian" and calling Luz a "weak witchling." Unfortunately for them, they say this in front of Emperor Belos, who actually approves of their relationship.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: When King remarks that only "whackjobs" live in big houses, Luz points out that she lives in a big house.
    King: My point still stands.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • While Luz's Half-Human Hybrid physiology makes her useless against the protective magic in Warden Wrath's treasure vault, Eda still has her help with the hopes that Luz's authority as princess will be enough to get King's crown back. The rest of the episode continues like normal with Luz causing the prison riot as her canon-counterpart.
    • The events of "Witches Before Wizards" play out about the same as they do in canon, the only real difference being that Luz sees right through Adegast's illusion for the con that it is and she only pretends to be captivated by the whole thing.
    • While Luz has her own reserves of magic, she still ends up discovering glyph magic.
    • Amity and Luz still wind up in a Wizard Duel with each other, though while in "Covention" Amity and Luz duel over Amity's hatred towards Luz and Luz defend King from her (Eda and Lilith moderating due to their own issues with each other), here the duel is much more in good fun, Luz and Amity dueling reluctantly as their respective mentors try to prove who's the better teacher. The duel plays out similar though, with Eda booby-trapping the arena and Lilith slipping a construction coven patch onto Amity.
    • Eda still chaperones Grom. Here it's because Lilith "volunteered" her.
  • Internal Reveal: It takes until Chapter 9 for Luz to admit to Amity that she's half-human.
  • King Incognito: Luz and her family have taken great pains to hide the reality that she is Princess of the Isles after a failed assassination attempt by her own uncle Nathaniel when she was a baby. Her own friends didn't even now about this until they happen upon this fact via various extenuating circumstances.
  • Lesbian Jock: This version of Luz and Amity are both long-time players of Grudgy. Or at least Luz was before an accident on the field led to her getting decapitated.
  • Losing Your Head: Luz once got decapitated during a grudgby game, which is why she's no longer a member of the Banshees.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: It is stated often that while Belos certainly commands a presence, people seem to find his non-magic human wife Camila much more terrifying as far as Luz is concerned.
  • Noodle Incident: For whatever reason, Belos had both Hexes Hold'em and Moonlight Conjuring banned from the palace.
  • The Pardon: Belos offers Eda the Owl Lady full amnesty for her various crimes (including not participating in the coven system) in exchange for being Luz's new teacher.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Chapter 12 adapts the events of "Sense and Insensitivity", but it mostly follows the B-plot with Eda and Lilith, with Luz offhandedly mentioning her brief stint of fiction-writing with King to her parents at the end of the chapter.
  • Related in the Adaptation: While Luz's father is only shown in photographs in the original series, here he is Emperor Belos.
  • Speak of the Devil: In Chapter 24, Boscha reacts to Luz's cry of boredom that someone isn't just gonna walk through the door with a magical adventure for them... only for a metal worker named Burner to walk in and ask for their help in a project that will change everyone's lives.
  • Spotting the Thread: The first hole Luz notices in Adegast's motives is that he is in the potion's business, yet he is ordering potions from one of his competitors Eda.
  • Stupid Sexy Flanders: When Nevareth Bladestrife rips his shirt off, Luz has to mentally remind herself that she has a girlfriend.
'I have a girlfriend! I have a girlfriend!' she thought, 'I really hope Amity doesn't find out about this.'
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 14 ends with one of Luz's friends discovering that Belos is Luz's father. Revealed to be Amelia Bellflower in the next chapter.
    • In Chapter 19 Willow learns that Luz is a princess too.
    • In Chapter 23, Boscha learns the truth about Luz being the princess.
    • In Chapter 25 Amity finds out that Luz is the princess and Luz gets kidnapped by Nathaniel.
