Sunburst doesn't always have the best perceptions, but that doesn't mean he's not a good teacher, even if Flurry Heart does tax his patience. Recently, she's become rather bigheaded, a problem for a Princess of Equestria, and the only pony she treats with any civility is Sunburst. Dim Dark reckons that Flurry will fail the night's lesson as she's too reliant on her eyes, even ignoring the alicorn instincts she uses to justify her arrogant actions.

- Adventures in Comaland: It's proposed that Blackbird should enter the dreams of the recently-rescued and comatose Sinister Dark with Princess Luna's help. Dim is unhappy, as it exposes Blackbird to severe risk.
- Blindfolded Vision: Dim is attempting to teach Chartreuse his trick for using telekinesis to perceive whilst blindednote . The same trick forms the night's lesson.
- Break the Haughty: Flurry Heart's arrogance is becoming rather problematic. Fortunately, being thoroughly trounced by Sumac helps deflate her a little.
- Combat Pragmatist: Sumac, after all, he's physically the weakest alicorn, so has little change of winning a fair fight.
- Comedic Sociopathy: Sunburst reckons he should really have a chat with Dim about laughing at the misfortune of others.
- Cool Teacher: Seems to be Flurry's opinion of Sunburst. He's the only person she treats with any civility.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Sumac happily hands Flurry her ass when he gets the trick of seeing with magic before she does.
- Distracted by the Sexy: Well, maybe not strictly the sexy, but Sunburst becomes absorbed by staring at the photo of Starlight on his desk, apparently a common occurrence, and Dim snarks about the irrelevant digressions in his lesson plans.
- Moment Killer: Sunburst bemoans the profusion of these while trying to romance Starlight, particularly as he's trying to actually propose.
- Power Born of Madness: Dim's resilience to sanity-blasting effects due to his pre-existing madness is referenced.
- The Power of the Sun: Sunburst is able to draw a little power from sunlight.
- Private Tutor: The story focuses on Sunburst's role as this to the princesses Flurry Heart and Skyla. Dim reckons that Sunburst is a better one than the legendary Star Swirl on the basis that he's teaching three alicorns, in contrast to Star Swirl's two.
- Sickeningly Sweethearts: Dim holds this opinion of Sunburst and Starlight. Of course, it's Dim Dark saying this.
- Stern Teacher: Dim Dark, in contrast to Sunburst.
- Your Eyes Can Deceive You: Justified, as they're trying to teach a technique for Blindfolded Vision.
