LEGO Equestria Girls provides examples of:
- Adaptational Badass: This version of Flash Sentry is a police officer and joins Twilight on her quest to get her crown back.
- Adaptational Villainy: In the original Equestria Girls, Sunset was merely an Alpha Bitch and her worst crime was using the Element of Magic to turn the residents of her school into brainwashed minions to invade Equestria and take it over. Here, she has bank robbery, grand theft auto and annoying the police on her rap sheet and is number one on LEGO's Most Wanted list. Lightning Dust and Trixie are also on the list too, and as Sunset's accomplices no less.
- Dem Bones: Trixie has a skeleton army at her disposal.
- Drives Like Crazy: Canterlot City's version of Pinkie Pie.
- Mythology Gag:
- Pinkie Pie's habit of shouting "SPACESHIP!" when everyone was preparing to go to space is a clear reference to Benny doing the same when he was flying his own spaceship in The LEGO Movie.
- When they are shooting off into space, Pinkie says "Thi-i-is ma-akes my vo-oice sound si-i-i-i-i-illy!"
- Another LEGO Movie reference is when Pinkie asks Spitfire if she knew you should never place your rear end on a pirate's face.
- Recycled In Space: Subverted. It starts out the same as Equestria Girls but eventually evolves into its own thing.
- Shout-Out: One of the animals in Fluttershy's animal centre is a shark named Bruce.
