Kanto Kickups is a Pokémon Self-Insert Fic written by gelefant.

It is about Jermaine and Leaf adventuring through the Kanto region.

  • The Ace: Jermaine wins every rematch and is acknowledged as a powerful/strong Trainer by others. He also catches three Legendary Pokémon over the course of the story.

  • Bare-Fisted Monk:
    • Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Fighting-type Elite four member Bruno in "The Superior Power."
Jermaine wins.
  • Jermaine catches every Kanto region Fighting type.
  • Bruno and Jermaine later have another friendly, Fighting type-only rematch. Jermaine wins.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Koga has a Venomoth on his team.

    • Jermaine catches every Kanto region Rock type.
    • Brock and Jermaine later have another friendly rematch, during which Jermaine only uses Rock types. Jermaine wins again.
    • Koga has a Nidoqueen and a Nidoking on his team.
  • Energy Ball: During Jermaine and Misty's friendly rematch in "The Tomboy Mermaid," his Mega Venusaur knocks out her Mega Gyarados with two Energy Balls.
  • Extra Oredinary: Both Jermaine and Lorelei have an Alolan Sandslash on their teams.
  • Fossil Revival: Jermaine has his Dome Fossil, Helix Fossil, and Old Amber resurrected into a Kabuto, an Omanyte, and an Aerodactyl, respectively.
  • Get Out!: The Marowak ghost screams this at Jermaine and Leaf when they reach the sixth floor of the Pokémon Tower in "The Restless Spirit."

    • In "The Nature Princess," Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Grass-type Gym Leader Erika. He wins.

    • Misty has a Dewgong on her team.

  • Just Friends: At the beginning of "The Tomboy Mermaid," Misty asks Jermaine and Leaf if they're dating. They say they're only friends. Misty responds with a smirk.
  • Making a Splash:
    • Brock has a Kabutops and an Omastar on his team.
    • In "The Tomboy Mermaid," Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Water-type Gym Leader Misty. He wins.
    • Jermaine has a Lapras and a Vaporeon on his team. He catches a Kabuto and an Omanyte in "The Rock-Solid Trainer," both of which evolve.
    • Lorelei has a Dewgong, a Cloyster, and a Lapras on her team.
    • Bruno has a Poliwrath on his team.
  • Mythology Gag: The ending of "The Restless Spirit" plays out much the same as the Pokémon: The Series episode "The Tower of Terror."
  • Olympus Mons:
    • Jermaine catches a Zapdos in "The Lightning Lieutenant."
    • Jermaine catches a Mewtwo and a Mew in "The Psychic Master."
    • Jermaine catches a Moltres in "The Hothead."
    • Jermaine catches an Articuno in "The Cool Battler."
  • Our Fairies Are Different:
    • In "The Artist," Jermaine has a Fairy type-only battle with the Fairy-type Trial Captain Mina. He wins.

    • As in canon, the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town is haunted by both actual ghosts and Ghost-type Pokémon.
    • Jermaine catches a Gastly, a Haunter, and a Gengar during "The Restles Spirit." By extension, this means he catches every Kanto region Ghost type.
    • During Jermaine and Leaf's exploration of the aforementioned Pokémon Tower in "The Restless Spirit," they encounter the Marowak ghost from the games.
    • In "The Old Soul," Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Ghost-type Elite Four member Agatha. He wins.
  • Parrot Pet Position: Jermaine's Pikachu sits on his shoulder during his friendly rematch with Lt. Surge in "The Lightning Lieutenant."
  • Playing with Fire:
    • In "The Hothead," Jermaine has a friendly, Fire type-only rematch with the Fire-type Gym Leader Blaine. Jermaine wins.
    • Jermaine catches every Kanto region Fire type.
    • Agatha has an Alolan Marowak on her team.
  • Please Wake Up: Leaf says this to Jermaine when it looks like he dies after the Marowak ghost hits him on the head with her ghostly bone. Thankfully, he's just unconscious and not dead.
  • Poisonous Person:
    • Jermaine has a Venusaur on his team. He later catches a Gastly, a Haunter, and a Gengar.
    • Agatha has an Arbok, a Gengar, and a Golbat on her team.
    • Jermaine has friendly rematches with the Poison-type Gym Leaders Koga and Janine in "The Poisonous Ninja Masters." Jermaine wins both times.
  • Psychic Powers:
    • Misty has a Starmie on her team.
    • Jermaine has an Alolan Raichu on his team. He later catches a Mewtwo and a Mew in "The Psychic Master."
    • Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Psychic-type Gym Leader Sabrina in "The Psychic Master." He wins.
    • Lorelei has a Jynx on her team.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: As mentioned above, Misty asks Jermaine and Leaf if they're dating in "The Tomboy Mermaid." They say they're Just Friends. Misty responds with a smirk.

    • At the beginning of "The Lightning Lieutenant," Jermaine has a friendly, Electric-type only rematch with the Electric-type Gym Leader Lt. Surge. Jermaine wins.

    • In "The Old Soul," Jermaine has a friendly rematch with the Ghost-type Elite Four member Agatha. He wins.
    • Jermaine catches every Kanto region Ghost type.
  • Super Mode:
    • During their first rematch in "The Rock-Solid Trainer," Brock Mega Evolves his Aerodactyl and Jermaine Mega Evolves his Venusaur.
    • During her friendly rematch with Jermaine in "The Tomboy Mermaid," Misty Mega Evolves her Gyarados.
    • During his friendly rematch with Erika in "The Nature Princess," Jermaine Mega Evolves his Charizard into Mega Charizard Y.
    • During his friendly rematch with Bruno in "The Superior Power," Jermaine Mega Evolves his Gengar.
