- Badass Boast: Par of the course for a Large Ham like Playa.Playa: The greatest danger for me as a mage is NOT another specialist mage, because there is a word for a person who tries to outmatch me in magic reserves in long-distance bombardment — and that word is UNCONSCIOUS.
- Blind Without 'Em: Playa is legally blind and anything more than two steps away from him is an indistinct blur. While he owns prescription glasses, he stopped using them after piecing together an alternative with a VR headset, camera lenses, and a high-specs smartphone.
- Celibate Eccentric Genius: Deconstructed. The consensus in Belfast is that Court Magician Charlotte is like this given her long string of suitors, that simply couldn't hold her attention at all despite their efforts. Problem is, she's not actually asexual, just something of a late bloomer because she Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training; having Leen around during her formative years didn't do her any favors, either. Playa hitting her Geeky Turn-On buttons can make things very awkward, very fast, because Charlotte's, er, elation at having a genuinely stimulating intellectual conversation is pretty much indistinguishable from sexual arousal.
- Chekhov's Gun: Elze's throwing bullets and Playa's sword-spear. The fact they're made out of metal becomes very relevant when the party accidentally wakes up the Fraze trapped as a Human Popsicle in the Old Capital.
- Chuunibyou. Playa is a self-admitted example.Playa: I'm a chuuniboy and proud of it.
Monika: Ahahaha… I can try to respect that, at least.- Monika gradually cultivates, and progressively plays up, a reputation as a goddess. She absolutely milks this around Belfast's royal family.
- Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Alan for Charlotte. He survives thanks to the power of common sense and ginormous amounts of snark and bitching.
- Combat Medic: Sue trains under Playa and Monika to become one by taking full advantage of her strongly Light-aligned magic and their knowledge of modern medicine.
- Combat Pragmatist: Combine Playa's OP magic powers, his Genre Savviness of videogames and fantasy literature, with his utter lack of shame, and this trope becomes inevitable. A notable example is his victory in a sparing match against Badass Normal Yae by exclusively summoning water right on her face and driving it up her nose.
- Consummate Liar: Playa's BS-ing skills may as well be his real superpower. Monika is suspicious of how somebody could get so good at lying.
- Conversational Troping: Very frequent between Playa and Monika. The first one has them trying to figure out what type of isekai story they are, and whether they are Expendable Clones of the originals, or even digital copies in a simulated reality.
- Cool Mask: Playa fancies himself to look like Char Aznable, so the mask goes without saying.
- Crazy-Prepared: Playa carried around terabytes of useful data of all kinds before waking up in a fantasy world, including a folder named "Everything You Ever Need to Restart Civilization from Scratch." Monika outright asked him if he was hoping for something like getting Trapped in Another World to happen, but he deflected the question by saying that, just like there are people who have a "Zombie Plan" ready, he made an "Isekai Plan" just for the fun of it.
- Deadpan Snarker: Both Playa and Monika can be real smartasses.
- Deliberate Values Dissonance:
- All over the place in the fantasy world, especially when its societal roles are involved. Playa and Monika handle it better than most Trapped in Another World characters by comparing what they run into with similar examples from either real history or fantasy literature.
- Zorah tried to rile up Playa by taunting him with the possibility of his female party members fighting his fights for him. Being born in 2001, traditional gender roles do little to provoke him.
- Polygamy is legal in the region of the fantasy world Playa and Monika arrive to. This shows in the fact Linze wants to get together with him while at the same time she deeply respects his relationship with Monika.
- Does This Make Me Look Fat?: Playa is careful to never react to this kind of baiting.
- The Empath: Princess Yumina's Mystic Eyes allow her to "see" how a person is really like. Playa confuses the heck out of her because his "true self shines the brightest" when he behaves in an obviously overdramatic way, but he falls into denial whenever someone shows actual admiration for him. She has never seen a self-medicating Manic Depressive before.
- An Entrepreneur Is You: Much like Kazuma Satou, Playa is a lot better at making money by importing ideas from Earth than living off adventuring. Elze sometimes has to drag him to go on a quest or else he will just play around, as his various investments provide him with stable income.
- Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Playa's reaction when Monika sounded happy that their Trapped in Another World adventure looked at first like a "nice and fluffy business isekai" rather than a "war isekai" or a "harem isekai."Playa: [to himself] War isekai I understand. But what's so dangerous about harem isekai? Kinda weird for a character from a… dating sim psychological horro… Oh.
- Geeky Turn-On: Belfast's court magician Charlotte having an intellectually stimulating conversation with Playa may as well drop the "intellectually" bit.
- Gender Rarity Value: A realistic example. The last war between Belfast and Regulus killed guys in droves 20 years ago. This is the reason why so many unmarried girls like Aer run their own small businesses despite their otherwise Medieval European Fantasy societal standards. This could also be a factor on their cultural acceptance of polygamy.
- Goggles Do Something Unusual: Playa's VR headset works as a replacement for his prescription glasses. After Monika became truly sentient, she improved the system into a full Augmented Reality implementation.
- The Greatest Story Never Told: The party defeated a Fraze during their quest in the Old Capital in an amazingly epic battle, yet they can't tell anyone about it because they accidentally endangered the kingdom by awakening the near-unkillable creature in the first place.
- Has a Type: While he doesn't act on it, "super-hot super-nerd" Charlotte hits all of Playa's buttons. Monika finds this attraction to her so inevitable that it barely registers as anything to be jealous about.
- Kinetic Weapons Are Just Better: Playa rendered himself unconscious after using his Shock and Awe powers to build an impromptu railgun. The results are measurable in the Richter scale.
- Large Ham: Playa in spades. Upgraded to Ham-to-Ham Combat whenever Zorah Zorea Zenovivi enters the scene.
- Monika's own hamtastic tendencies and a limited demonstration of Time Reversal Powers has people mistaking her for a terrifying Goddess that has been erasing Playa's memory starting from childhood, raising and loving him each time in a Hikaru Genji Plan.
- Manchild: Elze outright calls Playa one. Played With in that he doesn't seem to be that old, but for the standards of a medieval fantasy world, he certainly counts as an adult. Ironically, it also irritates her when he sits down and does serious adult things like business management, to the point of dragging him off to adventure before he grows fat and lazy.
- The Nicknamer: Playa used "Fistpunch" and "Shyface" to refer to Elze and Linze before learning her real names. He also comes up with "Swordtail" for Yae, apparently just to keep up the Theme Naming going.
- The recent chapter titles for the Tournament Arc doubled down on this with "Heapbigwoman","Milkmage","Stabulous", and "Carryburdens". Playa himself is apparently "Charname".
- No Name Given: The protagonist is only known by the name he came up with for himself after arriving to In Another World with My Smartphone world. It bothered Monika enough that she wrote a poem about it.
- Office Lady: Playa likes the style and wants it to catch on in the new world.
- Personality Powers: Playa can wield all six elements, but he becomes the most proficient with Wind because of how much he loves freedom.
- Platonic Life-Partners: Playa considers Elze a damn fine bro.Playa: Ow! What the hill! [clutches his nose] What the alive sounds of music was that for?!

Playa: You're not a tsundere, you're just an asshole! [makes a thumbs up] I LIKE IT. - Robot Girl: Monika completely lacks a body and lives inside the titular smartphone. Playa's quest is to finally get her a living human body.
- Sad Clown: Playa. It's clear from early on that he keeps up an upbeat disposition to avoid falling back into bad habits.
- Shout-Out: In staggering amounts. Often a good way to explain a complex concept with a couple of well-placed references.
- Deserving special mention is the chapter in which Playa fights and kills a dragon with spells copied from Skyrim while Monika sings "The Dragonborn Comes" to complete the atmosphere. Potentially a Crowning Moment of Awesome.
- Superpower Lottery: Playa has all of Touya's broken magical powers from Isekai Smartphone, while Monika can copy and stack other people's personal skills. While they are unfairly powerful, they can also amplify the power of other members of the party to keep them relevant.
- Theme Music Power-Up: Invoked. Monika makes sure of playing the right song when Playa is in need of this trope.
- Theory of Narrative Causality: Discussed and probably Invoked. Playa and Monika suspect there could be a powerful DM-like entity behind their translocation to another world, so they're wary of obvious "plot hooks" such as then-unnamed cute girls Elze and Linse apparently caught in a shady back-alley deal.
- The story summary is Player and Monika's Completely Wrong Genre-Savvy Adventures. They tend to assume that they're in a different genre than what they're presently living through. What Touya did to show off like a detective, they accidentally turned into a complete political shitstorm.
