Hurricane Heartbeat is a Kingdom Hearts Alternate Universe fanfiction by Dorked. It can be read on Archive of our Own and Fanfiction.net.
Diverging from the ending of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Ventus ends up accidentally replacing Sora's Heart instead of sleeping within it. Now, he's trapped in the child's stolen body, forced to live a lie. The stars are fading fast, and as he grapples with his new identity, Ventus finds that his past is not so easily escaped.
- Abusive Parents: Riku's unseen parents are both neglectful and physically abusive.
- Adaptation Expansion: The mainland of the Destiny Islands is explored, along with Sora's home and school life.
- Adaptational Jerkass: Yen Sid is portrayed in a more morally dubious light. While unambiguously on the side of good, Yen Sid is an authoritative, self-righteous traditionalist who lacks empathy and is more than willing to let some worlds die if it meant preserving the world order.
- Back from the Dead: A remnant of Vanitas survives the events of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, though it takes a decade for him to be revived fully.
- Bittersweet Ending: After escaping the destruction of their home, Ventus takes Kairi on as an apprentice as the duo prepares for a new adventure. Meanwhile, Riku ends up with Maleficent and Vanitas, the latter pretending to be Sora.
- Broken Pedestal: Mickey becomes disillusioned with Master Yen Sid when the latter instructs him to abandon Aqua in the Realm of Darkness in favour of searching for Ventus.
- Co-Dragons: Pete and Vanitas serve as this to Maleficent.
- Good Parents: Sora's parents are kind and loving. Its easy to see where he gets it from.
- Grand Theft Me: An unintentional variant. To his horror, Ventus ends up accidentally possessing Sora's body and stealing his life.
- Identity Amnesia: Invoked. Knowing full well that nobody would believe him if he told the truth, Ventus instead lies that he lost his memory in order to explain Sora's sudden change in demeanour.
- Orcus on His Throne: Deconstructed. The story holds Yen Sid accountable for the fact that despite his immense power, he does next-to-nothing to save worlds from falling to darkness, instead leaving Keybearers to do all the work.
- Older Than They Look: Sixteen-year-old Ventus ends up in the body of five-year-old Sora. By the events of the first game, Ventus is basically a twenty-five-year-old in a fourteen-year-old's body.
- To Be Continued: The story ends with a teaser for the next entry.TO BE CONTINUED IN
