Mira has spent much of her life in war and seeing the worst of the world. One would think the end of the war would be a conflict. But Mira learns that sometimes war can seem more accessible than peace.
’’Homecoming’’ contains the following tropes:
- Bruiser with a Soft Center: Spear is a formidable warrior whose name is based on his combat prowess, but he’s the one who checks up on Mira and comforts her after her nightmare.
- No Place for a Warrior: Mira has spent so much time under fire and facing death that a peaceful life where she is welcomed back gracefully
- Nightmare Sequence: Mira has one on the first night of her return, struggling with the trauma and horror of violence.
- Shell-Shocked Veteran: Mira is both traumatized by the horrors of war and bloodshed ‘’and’’ traumatized by the brutal task of adapting back to civilian life.
- Uncle Pennybags: Mira’s father, the chief, is a variant: his time as a chief has given him massive amounts of wealth, but he’s all too happy to share it with the population.
