⫚ - His Daughters, The Miracles of the family is an Encanto fanfic by YuiUltima that can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Since Bruno was Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel's father in this version, the three of them have to deal with their youngest not receiving her gift (instantly turning her into a Penny Among Diamonds as far as Abuela is concerned) and their parents disappearing immediately afterwards. When Alma forbids even discussing the issue, the three of them turn to each other (and later Dolores) for support.
  • Adaptational Context Change: The collective term "we don't talk about Bruno" was inferred to be one that formed naturally among the Madrigals and the villagers in canon. Here, it was an edict forced onto the family by Alma. Because Bruno was Isabela, Luisa and Mirabel's father in this version and they still love him in spite of leaving, this leads to the three of them slowly ignoring her authority as matriarch out of spite.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Isabela is far more outspoken then in the movie and is the one who kickstarts the others no longer caring about what Alma thinks of them.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • In canon, Isabela and Mirabel suffered from a bad case of Mutual Envy, leading to them having a strained relationship until they repair later in the film. Here, they are much closer due to having to share the burden of Bruno being gone.
    • Alma was respected by everyone in canon, even if they didn't fully agree with her choices, at least until the magic began to die. Here, while most of the family still does, Isabela, Lusia and Mirabel don't, with Isabela internally thinking that she hates her.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Mirabel is convinced that the two women who run the orphanage, Gloria and Alexis, are a couple, but she never really presses.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted hard after Alma slaps Isabela, leading to her gaining a scar going over her left eye.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: When Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel overhear a random villager that they are better off without Bruno, Isabel has the man strung up with vines and forces him to apologize. It's implied that Mirabel not given her a Cooldown Hug, Isabela would have killed him.
  • Emotion Control: Eva's gift is the ability to control other people's emotions.
  • Friend to All Children: The children of the town adore Isabela, Lusia, and Mirabel.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Like in canon, Alma tries arranging Isabela up with Mariano and it ends up falling apart because she doesn't want to marry him. Unlike canon, Isabela is much more upfront about her feelings on the matter and just tells her instead of taking advantage of Mirabel's antics.
  • Irony: Angel is remarked on by his older cousins that he's a "daredevil" due to his propensity in endangering himself despite being a baby. This prompts Mirabel to make him a devil-themed onsie.
  • Like Brother and Sister: While the rest of the family begrudgingly pretend that nothing is wrong and leave the three sisters to go without the support they need, Dolores (since she is always hearing how they suffer) becomes a shoulder to cry on for the three of them. This eventually leads to her become their honorary "fourth sister", her being the only person Casita allows to enter Isabela's room when the three of them are there.
  • Original Character: In this version, Julieta and Agustín have three different children: Leo, Elizabeth, and Evangeline. A fourth is later born with Angel.
  • Papa Wolf: While Bruno was always submissive towards his mother's authority, the moment she implies that Mirabel is in some way a threat to the miracle, he tells her to shut up.
Bruno: I've said this in the past, and I'll be saying it again. You can say and think whatever you want about me and my gift, but if you ever, if you ever, insult or hurt any of my children and my wife, I will do something drastic, anything in order to ruin this "Legacy" you want us to uphold.
  • Paper Master: Elizabeth's gift is the ability to bring paper creations to life.
  • Related Differently in the Adaptation: While Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel were Julieta and Agustín's daughters with Bruno as their uncle, here Bruno and Maria are their parents.
  • Super-Speed: Julieta's son Leo has this as his gift.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Isabela's scar comes to signal two things to both the family and the townspeople. One, Isabela's time as "the golden child" is over and two, Alma isn't against hurting the family if they upset her.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: When Isabela confronts Alma about her high expectations and cancels her arrangement with Mariano (resulting in a slap in the face and a facial scar from a thorn), Isabela does away with her hated dress in favor of a more masculine, Earth-toned outfit that vaguely resembles Bruno's.
  • Unstoppable Rage: After overhearing a villager insult Bruno, Isabela flies into a rage and nothing, not even Alma, stops her, at least until Mirabel gives her a Cooldown Hug.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 5 ends with Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel moving in with their maternal grandmother after they defy Alma in front of the rest of the family.
