Go To

A normal life. That is all she wanted. Is that really so much to ask? So why is she caught in the middle of this stupid Fifth Holy Grail War with a snarky Servant by her side? Sigh. Oh well. There's only one thing to do... Survive! That shouldn't be so hard to do. After all, she has gotten quite used to wars. What's one more?

Hibiscus Archer is a Fate/stay night / Bleach Crossover Fan Fic written by AnimeAndFanficLover

Don't read the tropes below unless you want to be spoiled.

This work provides examples of:

  • Accidental Pervert: Orihime and Archer's first proper meeting involves a very tired and exhausted Orihime (who had just summoned her Servant the night before, unbeknownst to her) being woken up by her dog's angry barking. She walks out of her bedroom to find what has gotten Blueberry so riled up so early in the morning, forgets to put some pants on, and is met with stunned and blushing Archer. Having momentarily forgotten about last night's events, she justifiably believes he's an intruder, and promptly almost stabs his neck with a knife. Regaining his composure and catching the knife, Archer amusingly and sarcastically manages to diffuse the situation, which leads to Orihime recognizing her state of undress. An embarrassed Orihime shots Archer a Death Glare, and threateningly tells him to forget the whole matter.
  • All-Loving Heroine: Less cheerful and melancholic though she is, Orihime is still Orihime, and thus this trait has stayed with her. Although, it has the misfortune of annoying Archer sometimes.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Compared to Orihime's old life (like getting distracted by the thought of a good meal or dessert), this is played somewhat more seriously. Though she hides it very well from her peers, but without Ichigo or any of her old friends in her new life anymore, she can't motivate herself to do anything. She does the bare minimum just to get by in life and has very little to no interest at all. She has become very emotionally subdued, passive, and melancholic. Despite claiming to be content, she finds her current life to be boring and uninteresting.
  • Berserk Button: Orihime does not take kindly to being called a magus. At all.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: A few of Orihime's coworkers at her job declare that she's a very clever and intelligent woman, but her lack of ambition and motivation prevents her from reaching for greater heights. Even if she picks a new hobby or interest, she quickly drops it if it doesn't keep her entertained enough or for very long, whether she excels at it or not.
  • Broken Bird: Compare Orihime's upbeat, cheerful pre-reincarnated self to her more introverted and melancholic present-day self. It's obvious that being away from her friends, especially Ichigo and her family has taken their emotional toll on her. The author has described her as "a woman in mourning who clings to the past as the happiest days of her life", which is ironic given that she's the one who had died was reincarnated into another world.
  • Brutal Honesty: Archer does this when he explains the rules of the Holy Grail War to Naïve Newcomer Orihime, often snidely remarking on her softhearted nature. Unlike most examples, she takes it all in stride, much to his surprise, though it does get him to accept her more as his Master because he thinks she's adaptable. Unbeknownst to him, Orihime is simply used to these types of supernatural activities and circumstances.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Orihime still possess some aspect of being this.
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: This is essentially Orihime's reaction to the Holy Grail War, despite some minor annoyances. This, unironicially, causes Archer to believe that Orihime is adaptable, not knowing that she's simply Seen It All before.
  • Fanservice with a Smile: Orihime's main job at Cafe Angel. She also cooks sometimes.
    • Archer internally deadpans that the outfits are fanservice-y on purpose in order to bring in more customers, which Orihime had wholeheartedly agreed at one point. But, since she's somewhat of a Shameless Fanservice Girl in this story, she either doesn't mind or doesn't care. Most likely the latter. To her, it's simply part of the job.
  • Gamer Chick: Orihime picked up gaming (video, board, and card) in general as a hobby of sorts to escape her perpetual boredom.
  • Ice Queen: Orihime comes off as this to characters in-story due to her seemingly anti-social, standoffish, and melancholic nature. It's implied by a few characters that she has many admirers, but they are too nervous to approach her because of her outwardly "cold" exterior. Those that do are either flatly rejected outright or are given the chance at a simple date with her then rejected afterwards due to combination of her going out with them to relieve some boredom, disgusting her some way, and still yearning for Ichigo. Archer outright calls her "Princess" because of this trope, a translation of her name, and merely wanting to annoy her as Orihime suspects for saying he had no self-respect for himself. Even accidentally entering the Holy Grail War is treated as nothing more than a mild annoyance to her.
  • Insistent Terminology: Orihime is a healer. Not a magus. Calling her the latter would trigger her Berserk Button.
  • It Amused Me: Most of the hobbies and interests Orihime takes interest in is simply to entertain her and relieve her of some boredom. However, due to her Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!, she doesn't stay entertained for long, leaving her mostly perpetually melancholic.
  • Jack of All Stats: Orihime's first comment when looking at her Servant's stats for the first time is that Archer must be this, although his stats are more improved and boosted in comparison to the Fate/stay night original series. He has an excellent Mana stat (A), average agility, endurance, and strength stats of C, slightly better Magic Resistance (C) and Independent Action (A), and an impressively improved luck stat of B.
  • Reincarnation: Orihime from Bleach is reincarnated into the world of Fate/stay night almost a couple of decades before the Fifth Holy Grail War, where she ends up accidentally being a participate of it with Fate/stay night's Archer as her Servant.
    • Unlike most stories, it is left somewhat vague if it's actually true reincarnation or not. Orihime Inoue is often described as an "entity" that has taken over/merged with the body and mind of Orihime Nazuki. When recounting her past self, Nazuki would sometimes refer Inoue as an entirely different person rather than her pre-reincarnated self. Archer even saw someone who looked like Orihime Inoue in his Reality Marble. It's heavily implied that this was the reason Nazuki was able to summon him as her Servant.
  • Sarcastic Devotee: Archer is already proven himself to be this. However, Orihime does not mind it much because "at least he's not boring".
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!: Despite being an inexperienced Master, Archer admits that he can't really find any faults with Orihime as his Master. The only thing that somewhat gets under his skin is her softheartedness that he translates as a naive sense of idealism and heroism, declaring that she should break that "bad" habit as soon as possible or it'll end up destroying her in the end. Just like it did for him.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Post-Reincarnation, Orihime still loves Ichigo and only Ichigo. She has stated she has dated a few times (mostly to stave off boredom), but, excluding the problems she has with some of her "dates", she's so Ichigo-sexual that she has no romantic or sexual attraction to any other guy. Word of God as declared that this is the reason why Orihime won't be paired up with anyone (not named Ichigo Kurosaki) in the story.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: As expected, Archer has an endless supply of snarky remarks. However, Orihime, when she's in the mood for it, can give back just as much snark as he dishes out. Her first snide comment was if being a professional snarker is what got Archer into the Throne of Heroes in the first place.
  • Split-Personality Merge: Subtly hinted at. It's been implied that Orihime Nazuki was an entirely different person before receiving the memories and powers of her past self. The narration makes this even more unclear by wondering if "Orihime Inoue" had taken over "Orihime Nazuki" or if their personalities simply fused together. That's not to mention that there is some sort of "entity" out there who's appearance is very similar to "Orihime Inoue", which adds a whole slew of Mind Screw. Once thing has stayed though, and that is her very deep and impassioned love for Ichigo Kurosaki.
  • Strong, but Unskilled: Archer's initially impression of Orihime seems to be this. She has an extraordinary amount of magical potential, enough to give him an exceptional boost in stats compared to his original Fate/stay night counterpart. But being a first generation magus and an inexperienced Master makes him believe that she's generally unskilled in magecraft, which the author does confirm that Orihime is this as far as magecraft and only magecraft is concerned. Otherwise, according to Word of God, she's Weak, but Skilled or Skilled, but Naive, depending on the situation.
  • Technical Pacifist: Orihime has seem to have gone from a Actual Pacifist to this. She is unwilling to let Archer kill the other Masters (even threatening him with a Command Seal to prevent him from doing so), but she has no qualms with eliminating other Servants.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Although Orihime is more of Technical Pacifist here than she was in her old life, she still refuses to use lethal or deadly force. When Archer suggests to that if a Servant ends up being too difficult to fight and kill off and they should go and eliminate the Master in that instance, Orihime coldly threatens to use a Command Seal on him to prevent him harming any of the Masters in the war.
  • Used to Be More Social: When you compare Orihime pre and post Reincarnation, she seems like an entirely different person. Though she still retains some traits and aspects of her old self, Orihime is less cheerful and bubbly and more melancholic and reserved. Although she does not reject social interactions and activities, she doesn't actively seek it out either. She has claimed a few times that she has had friendships break off because of going to different schools or no longer attending school and her disinterest in staying in touch with her school friends.
