Fanfic / Harry Potter and the Untitled Tome

Go To

Harry Potter and the Untitled Tome is an ongoing Harry Potter Alternate Universe Fanfic in which the Battle of Nurmengard ends in a stalemate, fundamentally changing the direction of the wizarding world.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Personality Change: While most of the characters are roughly the same as their canon counterparts, several of them have subtle or not-so-subtle differences. For instance, Harry is a lot more judgmental and reserved when dealing with people and is quicker to get hostile, Hermione's more of a loner and far more bitter thanks to having been taken away from her parents, Draco is still a bigot but a lot more civil and less extreme about it, and Neville has pretty much lost his timid nature and is good friends with Draco (though he doesn't share his bigotry).
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Plenty of relationships from canon are totally different here, particularly Harry's. He and Ron are still friends, but not the inseparable best friends they are in canon. Hagrid doesn't seem to like Harry much at all, and didn't have the close relationship with his parents that canon Hagrid had. Perhaps most notable, even if it isn't given much attention thanks to their Death by Adaptation, but Vernon and Petunia seem to have genuinely cared for Harry, since he remembers them as his loving parents.
  • Alternate Universe:
    • The global wizarding war never ended, instead resulted in an Enforced Cold War;
    • Grindelwald conquers central and Eastern Europe, and establish various magical governments there. The magical communities there thrive, with the Eastern Magical Republic's note  capital city having five million magical beings living there.
    • The wizarding world has kept up with muggle technology and in fact fully embraced technology.
  • Extra-Strength Masquerade: The magical governments in central and Eastern European magical governments keep muggles away by making them believe their territories are full of radiation.
  • Magic Versus Science: Magic is hostile to technology, with bursts of accidental magic causing a pandemonium. Also entire zones of Eastern Europe are unhabitable by muggles due to the centration of magical beings there.
    • Subverted in that the wizarding world has culturally embraced technology as a way of life, simply replacing electricity with magic as the power source.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Subverted. The British Ministry of Magic rules over four hundred thousand people in total note . While merely the capital city of the Eastern Magical Republic has five million people, which far more than the canon's worldwide magical population.
  • Orphanage of Love: Harry grows up in one of these.
  • Power Incontinence: Harry has clear demonstrations of accidental magic early on his childhood.
