Fighting for a brave new world since 2062.
Girls' Frontline: The Recollection is a fanfiction story for the mobile strategy game Girls' Frontline. Being semi canon-compliant, the Recollection is set in the same general story as GFL's canon, but with numerous changed, new plots, and an emphasis on authenticity and as much realism as the setting allows.

This is the summary from the Fanfiction.net version of the story: When a veteran of World War 3 is given a chance to start life anew and leave the War behind, he takes it. This is the Recollection of a soldier's new life with Griffin and Kryuger Private Military Contractor.

Girls' Frontline: The Recollection contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: A major focus of the Recollection is to expand upon the story of the original Girls' Frontline, building upon the world and history of the setting, as well as massively expanding on the NUSSR and the United States' lore.
  • Alternate History: Just like Girls' Frontline proper, the course of history changes when the Russian Empire finds ancient technology during an excavation near Tunguska River in 1905. Things mostly remain the same though, but in 2030, the world would change for the worse.
  • Badass Crew: The spec-ops teams in canon make appearances here as the Recollection follows the canon's framework, but builds off of it and introduces original conflicts as well. Additionally, once they get their shit straight and things start going better for Station 794, Echelons One and Two kill multiple Sangvis Ringleaders and complete many objectives in Griffin's war against Sangvis Ferri, gaining company-wide fame.
  • Break Out The Museum Piece: Griffin as a whole is required to use pre-WW3 weapons to comply with international law, and during WW3, the nations were forced to issue older gear to soldiers due to the massive amounts of newer gear that was being lost, and eleven years later, there's still NSGF troops using AK-74Ms and SVD‐Ms.
  • Central Theme: Letting go of the past. Many aspects of the Recollection involve unresolved bad blood and greviances between characters and events, with the Commander losing everything to the NUSSR in WW3 and M1911 losing everything to the Rossartrist Party of America in the Second Civil War, yet as the story progresses they learn to move on from the hells that were their pasts and live their lives to the fullest.
  • Chummy Commies: Despite fighting the NUSSR for two-to-six years and losing quite a lot to them, Neo-Soviet characters are portrayed rather sympathetically and even positively, and the US characters tend to have good relationships with them...
  • Dirty Communists: ...that is, unless they're part of the New Soviet Armed Forces or the government, in which the US characters are much more antagonistic to them even if they're not written to be villians. Case in point: the Commander gets along well with his Russian Doll mechanic, Kalina, and AK-47, but when faced with Colonel Kirill Antonov, the first thought that comes into his mind is to kill him.
  • Divided States of America: After World War 3 ended, the United States fell into civil war once more, and while the federal government did manage to maintain control of most of their territory, the separatists still managed to secure almost half of the US' remaining clean landmass. In any case, it's safe to say that the US won't be involved in international affairs for a while.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: In general, certain units, classes, and groups show up earlier than usual. In particular, the KCCO are mentioned as early as Act 03, as well as Rossartrism and Daybreak Squad, who all appear much later than in-game Chapter 03.
  • Gratituous Russian: Used by almost every Russian character depicted, although the Russian words are romanized to make reading them easier to those who have issues reading Cryllic.
  • Hollywood Tactics: Averted as much as humanly possible. As the author takes as much care as he can to research military tactics and organization, the tactics depicted in the fanfiction tend to be at least semi-realistic (grenade cooking notwithstanding.)
  • Mildly Military: Griffin and Kryuger as a whole. While Commander Becker doesn't mind the lack of professionalism Griffin typically shows since he can behave a bit more casually, the typical Soviet soldier wastes no time in making their displeasure at Griffin's lack of discipline known. After all, national militaries don't authorize miniskirts and bikini tops as standard uniforms— or let anyone with superiority complexes get away with trying to boss their actual superiors around.
  • Post-Soviet Reunion: the USSR's former member states reunited under the banner of the New Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 2032 following a short civil war, following the disastrous Belian Island Incident of 2030. It soon became a world superpower again, fought NATO in World War 3, then found itself hiring Private Military Contractors to protect its territories after the military was weakened by the War.
  • Shout-Out: The Recollection has quite a few, ranging from cameo appearances to the personality quirks of certain characters to names and much more.
  • World War 3: This happened from 2045 to 2051, sixteen-to-eleven years before The Recollection: Beginning starts, and shaped much of the world in the story. The Recollection: War is set in this time period, following an American soldier and a Neo-Soviet soldier as they try to get revenge on the NUSSR or simply survive the war, respectively.
