Fanfic / Freedom Fighters NEO

Go To

Freedom Fighters NEO is a Fan Fic written by The Merger Magikoopa. It can be found here, on his Deviantart page.

Freedom Fighters NEO contains examples of (TBA):

  • Aborted Arc: There was intended to be some Undertale, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Robotboy and My Life as a teenage robot story arcs, but The Merger Magikoopa abandoned them due to the characters from those franchises would barely appear again after the arc would have been finished.
  • Act of True Love:
    • Iris saves a brainwashed Zero from a gone-Maverick Layer.
    • After X and Zero save M'egga Man and Break Man from Robotnik, Rock and Blues save Roll and Tempo, respectively.
    • Metallix Overlord deroboticizes Mecha Sally. This action fits under this trope since Emperor Metallix is Sonic Man, an alternate version of Sonic, and Metallix Overlord is Emperor Metallix's most powerful form.
  • Adaptational Villainy: MARIO, full stop.
  • Alien Invasion / Aliens Are Bastards: The Xorda, the Shroobs.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us:
    • Robotnik took over Mobotropolis prior to the first chapter, like in the Archie Comics.
    • In the Mecha Sally Saga, Naugus takes over Knothole, similarly to how it happens in the Archie Comics (the main difference being that, in the Archie Comics, it's New Mobotropolis instead of Knothole).
  • Alternate Universe: Self-explanatory for a fic inspired by the Sonic Archie Comics. Emperor Metallix/Sonic Man originates from one of these.
  • Arm Cannon: Many Reploids and many of Robotnik's robots have those. Notable characters that have it: Rock, Blues, Bass, X, Emperor Metallix and Dr. Koopa.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Although they worked separately, Dr. Koopa and Dr. Robotnik revived millions of Reploids and Robot Masters (while also converting the latters into the formers) that died because of the Maverick Wars, the Elf Wars and the Xorda Attack 12'000 years prior to the events of the series.
    • The Brotherhood of Metallix revives their emperor, undoing the Redemption Equals Death trope. Although this undoing can also be said for Repliforce's General, as well as Shard.
    • This is a recurring trope in the FNAF story arc: Gerald Robotnik and his victims, the Aftons, as well as William Afton's victims, all came back from the dead as animatronics.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Cream, Iris and Dot are Nice Girls, but they're not to be messed with: Cream was an important asset into defeating the Tails Doll, Iris managed to beat a brainwashed Zero to a pulp, mainly to knock him back to his senses, and Dot managed to drive Salazar insane (although she was helped by her brothers).
    • Princess Peach does not enter in this category, as, unlike her game counterpart, she's not a Nice Girl.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Sonic gives Sally some during the Eggman Empire Saga. Robotnik upgrades those during the Mecha Sally Saga, but Emperor Metallix undoes it.
  • Brother–Sister Incest:The sinniest trope of them all. Played straight with Rock and Roll: they considered themselves siblings for a long time, yet they were crushing on each other all along. Bass apparently knew this for a while.
    • Despite being the sinniest thing at this fanfiction, Emperor Metallix claims this trope to be averted, due to Roll being adopted.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Emperor Metallix kills Robotnik and Naugus slowly and painfully. Why? Because Metallix wanted to put Naugus through eternal suffering from long before Naugus' death.
    • Metallix also puts Dr. Weil into an eternal hell, where he's killed by everyone he ever killed (including X, Zero, Alia, Iris and the Four Guardians), as well as a nightmarish version of him, over, and over, and over again, for all eternity.
  • Crossover: Mainly between the following franchises: Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., Mega Man, Kingdom Hearts and Five Nights at Freddy's. This is without counting the many sub-franchises of Disney, the company that co-owns Kingdom Hearts with Square Enix, and the Aborted Arc examples with other franchises.
  • Darker and Edgier: Despite being a fanfic based on some video game series, the series isn't kid-friendly.
  • Gosh Dangit To Heck: Many Freedom Fighters and Reploids fall under this trope:
    • The Freedom Fighters are kids, and some of them (Sonic, Sally, Tails and Antoine) being the children of nobles. Sally in particular is outright royalty, and Sonic also is secretly royalty.
    • Most Reploids were build after modifying the design of Blues (21st century generation) or X (22nd century generation), and both Blues and X were created by Dr. Light, who never swears.
  • Metallix averts this by swearing normally all the time, pulling a Precision F-Strike on occasions.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Seen with the Mavericks, as well as William Afton and, contrary to William's belief, Gerald Robotnik.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Seen with Shard. He's revived, thankfully.
  • The Man Behind the Man:
    • This first appears in the King Acorn Saga, when it's revealed that King Acorn was manipulated by Naugus.
    • In the Mecha Sonic Saga, Robotnik believed Phage was the Anonymous behind the many times the Freedom Fighters were one step ahead of him: the attacks over Albion, Golden Hive Colony and Angel Island, the Ixis Resurgence and the rise of the Brotherhood of Metallix, as well as Mecha's death. In truth, it was Emperor Metallix who was toying with Phage's feelings, despite the fact she believed otherwise.
    • In the Simon Saga, it's revealed Mitsuki's curse wasn't casted by Ballora, but rather by Robotnik himself (as Shadow Sonic).
    • In the Shadow Freddy Saga, the main antagonist is revealed to be Professor Gerald Robotnik (as Shadow Freddy), and that William Afton was merely a puppet in his plans, although Gerald originally intended for William to be the victim of these plans.
    • In the final saga, it is revealed that even those characters (Naugus, Robotnik, Gerald) were mere puppets of Mephiles the Dark, who was the embodiment of absolute evil.
  • Meaningful Name: Dr. Koopa is a nickname for Bowser Jr., commonly used by the public. In fact, only hid friends and family refer to him as "Bowser Jr.". Dr. Koopa fits under this trope because is a genius in robotics.
  • One-Winged Angel: Metallix has several of these.
    • One of them is the Metallix Overlord, which he first attained by absorbing energy from all Chaos Emeralds in the universe. After obtaining the Phantom Ruby, which is stronger than the Chaos Emeralds, the Master Emerald became enough to obtain this form.
    • Another unnamed one is obtained when he uses the power of Kingdom Hearts. In this form, he grows two extra pairs of arms from the sides of his lower torso and abdomen, as well as four arms from his back. This form is assumed because the Kingdom Hearts connects Metallix's heart with the hearts of the nine protagonists of Kingdom Hearts: Sora, Kairi, Riku, Terra, Aqua, Ventus, Roxas, Xion and Lea, and, as such, Metallix has to wear their Keyblades.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: This fanfic has a couple odd cases. While the couples that fall under this trope (Sonic/Sally, Sora/Kairi, Zero/Iris, X/Alia) do truly love each other and they were unwittingly bethroted, their marriages were arranged not by their parents (justified since Iris and Alia don't have any parents, Dr. Light and Dr. Wily, the fathers of X and Zero respectively, were long dead, and it is unknown where are Kairi's parents), but by DR. KOOPA of all people.
  • Redemption Equals Death: It's seen with Emperor Metallix. He's revived, thankfully.
  • Role Swap AU: This is seen mostly with the Mario characters: Dr. Koopa, the son of Bowser, is the good guy, and Mario is portrayed as a bastard. It's taken to the point where the Toads (fungi) are described as zombies. The only Mario character who is mostly unchanged is Rosalina, although she tries to bring the two sides at peace and is Dr. Koopa's mother.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Whenever the ruler of the Acorn Kingdom tries to banish Reploids from the Mobian society, someone (Dr. Koopa, The Brotherhood of Metallix) stands up for them until the kingdom gives up on the decision. All attempts of Reploid banishing are made by Naugus, either directly or by manipulating the current ruler. These attempts of his ultimately end up with Naugus' death.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Emperor Metallix is Sonic from an alternate universe in which Robotnik won. The story, up to the end of the Mecha Sally Saga, focuses around Metallix trying to prevent Sonic's downfall, although he goes to the extreme during the Mecha Sonic Saga.
  • Shipper on Deck: Dr. Koopa is so intense with his ships, this trope has it's own page.
  • Shout-Out: Has it's own page.
  • Spin-Off: The Metallix, Lilo and Stitch series is this. Word of God says it's semi-canon, but it's heavily implied to be entirely canon.
  • Tragic Monster:
    • Emperor Metallix is this in the Mecha Sonic Saga, particularly since it's then when it's revealed that he's a future self of Sonic.
    • Dr. Koopa, having blood from a monstruous-looking species, is sympathetic towards most of the Mavericks of the X series, mostly because they all have a tragic story: they were either a force for good that was corrupted (most Maverick Hunters) or death sentenced for a crime they didn't commit, despite their attempt to make their own justice, case in which the humans were the real Mavericks (Repliforce), or innocent bystanders who were infected (i.e.Blizzard Buffalo) or were death sentenced for a crime they didn't commit (Gate). He was once hostile towards Zero because Zero killed Iris, but learned to forgive him, since Iris being branded as a Maverick was the most tragic situation of them all. The one Maverick Dr. Koopa disliked was Layer.
    • William Afton is revealed himself to be such. Same goes for Gerald Robotnik, but Gerald only redeemed years after William.
