Go To

Forward Unto Dawn is a crossover fan fiction between Sunrise shows Code Geass and Gundam UC. Shortly before the events of Zeta Gundam, Axis Zeon, Side 3, the Lunar City of Granada, and everyone and everything in them is somehow sent to the world of Code Geass. Axis Zeon takes over, and shortly afterwards negotiates for recognition as the fourth major power. Time-skip ten years, and last Axis and Britannia finally come to blows.

It can be found on fanfiction, spacebattles, and alternatehistory.com.

As of 2015, the story is Dead Fic and currently pending for a reboot.

Forward Unto Dawn provides examples of:

  • Arranged Marriage: Schneizel tried to get one between Mineva and one of his half-siblings. The first time Haman deferred...the second time Mineva personally refuses the offer.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: Averted by the Axis nobility, most of them are nobles in name only, and those that have received inheritable titles have no privileges that go with them and their political power is checked by democratic safeguards.
  • Blessed with Suck: An encounter with Rolo leaves Ple-12's Newtype powers unstable, and while special medicine manages to help somewhat, she still has dream visions every night.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Nonette Enneagram and Luciano Bradley are able to keep up with Zeon aces Char Aznable and Elpeo Ple, with Luciano only losing due to overconfidence, and Nonette getting captured after being left unable to fight at her best due to mental pressure from Char (it turns out that Nonette's quirks were due to her latent Newtype abilities acting up).
  • Cool Ship: Played with - Bismarck is impressed by the Gwadan during the first chapter, and along with its mobile suits see it as a sign that Britannia needs to work to catch up.
    • Invoked once the story picks up: Axis warships are all apparently capable of entering and operating in Earth's atmosphere.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Averted with the Axis attack on Gibraltar and Pearl Harbor. Axis wins both battles, but they had to fight for it.
  • Defector from Decadence:
    • Lelouch is this, and he's expressed his lack of interest in returning to Earth much less Britannia.
    • Ruben Ashford also counts, as he took Milly with the Lamperouges to the Moon to free his granddaughter from the social obligations Milly's parents kept forcing on her.
  • Democracy Is Flawed:
    • Bismarck is a firm believer in this.
    • It doesn't stop Haman from adopting limited democracy for Axis as a form of realpolitik. On the other hand...
  • The Federation: Axis styles itself as this, and has elements of one.
  • The High Queen: Mineva is one, and has been since age fifteen. And while her Zabi side shows more than it does in canon, overall she is seen as a benevolent and popular ruler.
  • Honor Before Reason: The commander of the Britannian base at Gibraltar decides to fight to the death rather than accept the generous surrender terms offered by Admiral Hafez.
  • In Spite of a Nail: CC is liberated by the Japanese resistance and attempt to give her geass to Ple-11 when being confronted by Clovis' soldiers. However, Ple-11 doesn't receive her contract because she is a Newtype.
    • Clovis still dies with a gunshot to the head, but at the hands of the Cloud Knights.
  • Kaiserreich: The Axis Federation is apparently based on this.
    • Somewhat averted though: on one hand, much like the real thing Axis is certainly militaristic to an extent, democracy is limited and the government is top-heavy relative to the executive branch, but according to Word of God the standard of living is quite high/what can be expected from a RL First World country, and from the story it can be seen that Axis practices gender equality.
    • On the other hand, the limited democracy Axis emulates has historically been proven only to work under a strong monarch and chancellor, and while Mineva and Haman fit the bill, the question is if Axis will remain so under their successors. Thus far, the issue has yet to be brought up in-story.
  • Lensman Arms Race: Britannia is working hard to catch up, and is catching up. They have mobile suits which can fight Axis mobile suits on relatively-even terms in-atmosphere, while the ones piloted by the Knights of the Round are on par with the latest Axis models. On the other hand, Axis hasn't been idle, and thanks to Ruben Ashford turning over the Ganymede's schematics have been able to miniaturize their mobile suits, something that didn't happen in Gundam canon until the UC 120s, and their most advanced units use technologies that would not have been developed until then either.
  • Mirroring Factions: Axis and Britannia - as one poster from spacebattles commented, one is an absolute monarchy aiming to conquer the world with a secret ascension plan for Humanity, while the other is a constitutional monarchy aiming to conquer the world and enact a mass ethnic cleansing/enforced immigration to space.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Bismark Waldstein and Prince Schneizel apparently see Haman as this.
  • My Greatest Failure: Ple-11 was instrumental in putting down Glemy Toto's rebellion, but was forced to kill most of her sisters in their sleep in the process. As a result, she is shunned by Elpeo Ple, Ple-5 and Ple-6, and only Ple-12 tolerates her...and she cannot and does not blame them for it.
  • Mythology Gag: A group of Britannian nobles see Newtypes the same way Blue Cosmos sees Coordinators.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Mineva compares herself to her uncle Gihren when she manages to get a standing ovation from the Axis Parliament after she gives a speech asking them to declare war on Britannia.
    • The Knights of the Round also see Mineva as no different from the rest of her family after she gives a public address with a famous/infamous power phrase: SIEG ZEON!
  • Realpolitik: Apparently the only reason Haman accepted the idea of constitutional monarchy.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Lelouch earlier finds out that Nunnally's blindness is caused by their father after his sister was analyzed by Axis doctors. However, Lelouch and Axis mistook the Geass keeping Nunnally from opening her eyes to be some sort of Cyber-Newtype imprinting.
  • Shoddy Knockoff Product: Britannian mobile suits are rip off from Zeon and the Earth Federation. The Redcoat III is based on the RMS-179 GM II. The Morrigan built by Lloyd Asplund is based on the Gaza-D. Asplund also have the Lancelot run parallel to the Gundam and intend on serving it as the basis for Britannia's next generation of mobile suits.
  • Shout-Out: The author loves this.
  • The Social Darwinist: The Holy Britannian Empire's ideology. Mineva Zabi makes a public rebuttal against the concept, pointing out its misconception with regards to evolution, and seeing it as nothing more than an excuse to justify raping, killing, polluting, and stealing.
    • Even Prince Schneizel agrees with Mineva, as he is already aware how flawed it is when it comes to his siblings, who only earned their status and privileges through inheritances and birthrights, and that it will encourage internal backstabbing and leave the Empire in a more weakened state.
  • Spanner in the Works: Axis' presence does this to the CG-verse, with Charles and V.V. having already concluded Newtypes as a threat to their plans.
  • Stations of the Canon: Completely averted - the Lamperouges, the Ashfords (Milly and her grandfather to be specific), and Kallen (it remains to be seen which of her family is with her) emigrated to the Moon some time after Japan became Area 11.
    • Invoked - Glemy Toto still tries to seize power like in canon, but is put down with less losses for Axis this time round.
  • Thicker Than Water:
    • The only reason Lelouch and Nunnally are going to Earth is to try and get Cornelia and Euphemia to stop supporting Britannia.
    • Ple-12 reminds Ple-11 to be careful, as despite their differences their other sisters will not take her death easily.
  • Transhuman: Axis apparently sees Newtypes as this officially. However laws are in place to keep Newtypes from abusing their powers, and to prevent Oldtypes from acting/thinking out of fear with regards to Newtypes.
  • Unfriendly Fire: General Merryweather is murdered by his command staff after refusing to surrender to Axis forces as they are surrounded. Unfortunately for the aides, they were too late to request for surrender before their G1 is destroyed by Axis forces.
  • Victorious Childhood Friend: Milly and Lelouch are dating, though Lelouch only claims this is because no one they know wants to go out with her after a certain accident. With that said, if Milly's comments are to be taken at face-value, they've gotten quite intimate with each other more than once.
    • Considering that Mineva is a Newtype and hence a telepath, going by her reaction when Milly gave said comment, it probably is the truth.
