Fanfic / Firestarter Green Tea And Honey

Go To

Firestarter is a fanfiction crossover series between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Stranger Things, written on Archive of Our Own by green_tea_and_honey.

Courtesy of standing right besides Tony Stark's latest science experiment when it violently exploded, Peter Parker finds himself stranded in 1984, hundred of miles away from Queens, and would very much want to go home.

Unfortunately, it means escaping the government — bent on kidnapping him — and all these weird monsters — bent on eating him.

Still, with this girl able to move things with her mind on his side, he might just succeed.

Contains the following tropes

  • Abusive Parents: Howard Stark never told his son he loved him, and judging from Tony's reaction when the teen watches Hopper hugging a distressed El instead of hitting her, might even have beating him.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Peter getting experimented upon by Brenner and his cronies.
  • Adaptational Badass: After escaping Brenner's lab, Peter manages to manipulate fire.
  • Commonality Connection: El first believes Peter is an enemy, but quickly mellows down when she gets to see he bears a tatoo just like hers.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: May Parker still dies because of an extradimensional enemy seeking to hurt Peter, but this happens way earlier and it's the Mindflayer instead of the Green Goblin.
  • Generation Xerox: For all his wishes to not be like Howard in any way, young Tony finds himself making friends with a bunch of kooky guys secretly fighting against Hydra, and one of them is named Steve and doesn't know when to stop fighting.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Young Tony enjoys spending time in Hawkins because he gets to hang out with people around his age, and be known as a nice boy who can fix your electronics.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When El and Peter understand the Mindflayer followed Peter back in 2018 and now seeks to invade the future timeline.
    • El's horrified realization that Brenner's lab was supported by her timeline's Hydra.
    • The Party intercepting a Russian message on the radio, claiming "the Winter Soldier" is about to be unleashed.
  • Pair the Spares: Played for Laughs when Tony suggests he and Will can date each other since they're the only ones in the party to not have girlfriends yet. Will violently blushes at that.
  • Playing with Fire: The power developed by Peter after undergoing Brenner's experiments.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Robin shows herself rather bitchy towards young Tony for being saddled with Howard Stark as his dad. She drops the attitude after getting to know him better.
  • Teen Genius: Young Tony is able to reproduce his older counterpart's time travel machine in the second instalment, allowing El to travel in 2018.
  • Trapped in the Past: Peter in the first story. He's rather frantic about destroying the timeline until he learns he originates from a different one.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • Brenner has no qualms drugging Peter with something that would have caused an overdose for a healthy grown up and later outright attempts to kill the teen for refusing to give him Eleven.
    • The Winter Soldier is tasked with murdering young Tony, and has no qualms assaulting the Party in order to do so.
  • You Are Number 6: Brenner's lab leaves Peter with the number 12 tatooed on his arm. He's later referred that way by them and the Mindflayer, and the Avengers are deeply uneasy with the dehumanizing connotations.
  • Young Future Famous People: In order to go back to his origin timeline, Peter decides to enlist the local Tony Stark — who happens to be a young teen still, even if he's already a brilliant engineer.
  • Your Days Are Numbered: When dimension-hopping, it's impossible to spend more than a few weeks in another without coming back to your own or else your health will progressively deteriorate until it's too late.
