Go To

Given one final chance by a pilot in need of an assistant Spitfire finds herself struggling with her pride and instinct to rebel against being a slave. Putting aside her anger proves to be a struggle, while her captor is no saint either he merely wants to keep flying, but then again, so does she.

Fire and Sky is a My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfic made by Lurkernon for the slave pony general in 4chan's /mlp/ board, Fire and Sky was finished august 2016 and part 2 april 2020, a side story was also made along a collection of one-shots, although originally hosted on pastebin it would be moved to another site due changes to the type of content allowed.

Tropes found in this Fanfic include:

  • After the End: Equestria is currently controlled by humans, and the rest of its world is not doing better.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Celestia say's to Chrysalis that she is too evil to let around and Chrysalis does not believe Celestia would be willing to kill her, then Celestia's horn flashes and Spitfire describes "all that was left is a pale white statue" is she alive like Discord when trapped by the elements of harmony? Or she was killed?.
    • For most of the story we dont know anything about whats been of the Equestria royalty.
  • As Long as There Is One Man: Celestia's primary reason to stay hidden and free in Equestria's outskirts, she can't free ponykind or the other races, being seen in chains would not make things better for her ponies.
  • Babies Ever After: Spitfire comments that she would have settled down after her service in the equestrian army, but then a series of calamity's kept dropping and prevented this from happening.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Spitfire's trust in Anon improves as the stories go on and she reflects in "Fire's heart" how if it were not for her trust in Anon she would have taken a dark joke by him more literally.
  • Bitter Sweet Ending: Spitfire finds the princesses and stays with Anon, she will probably help her kind in the human world and gets told by Celestia that there is hope for ponykind with what she knows, but Celestia and Equestrians are nomads not shown as having a place to call home, everyone from Equestria's world is still enslaved on earth and ponies have started to accept their life as it is.
  • Born into Slavery: By time the first part starts there is already fillys and foals that do not know Equestrian culture, it has been so long that Spitfire does not even get weirded out when asked by foals "what are the wonderbolts".
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Downplayed, the war between ponies and changelings did manage to heavily corrupt a small amount of ponies in the army as Celestia tells Spitfire, the fact that Spitfire even considers killing is very not normal for a pony.
    • Played with for ponykind as a whole, it seems they where once like we see them in the show but by the time the story starts it's been ages since then, we also see some low life ponies that play this trope straight.
  • Great Offscreen War: Between ponies and changelings as we later found out.
    • Celestia mentions ponies raiding human cities through portals, also humanity's conquest of Equestria and presumably the other nations.
    • There is also a war between ponies and griffons.
  • Gilded Cage: Fire Streak ends up in an attraction park allowed to fly free in his own spare time and people love him... also he is owned by the owner of said attraction forever and even Fire Streak knows there is no place for a pony to be truly free on earth; he does not even bother trying to escape.
    • Even at the end when things are at its best for Spitfire she is still not truly free with Anon.
  • Government in Exile: Celestia and Luna live on the outskirts of Equestria along a small royal army, they let the human soldiers occupying Equestria know that ponies will not fight as long as the humans let them be.
  • Happiness in Slavery: It is shown as the story goes on that some manage to find a happy and stable life despite still being owned, and while they would rather be free or in Equestria's world they still make the most of what they have.
  • Have You Seen My God?: Where is Celestia and the other princesses is a matter that comes occasionally early on, its also implied that ponies see the alicorn royalty as some kind of deities.
  • Humans Are Bastards: No matter how independent and aware a pony or griffon acts humans have a hard time seeing them as equals and slavery is very normalized, this use of the trope is very common in stories made for /mlp/'s slave general because it makes the readers feel bad and uncomfortable.
  • Humans Are Good: Played with, even slavers can give lots of privileges to their ponies and as the story goes on there is hope for things to get better, we dont get true evidence that suggests humanity will ever let ponykind be free; only hope.
    • To put things into perspective Anon the deuteragonist went through a lot before he fully started to respect Spitfire and he is one of the good humans.
  • I Choose to Stay: Spitfire at the end chooses to stay with Anon in the human world.
  • Interspecies Romance: Once Anon fully accepts Spitfire as a fully sentient independent being things get romantic between them primarily because they have a lot in common; it takes a long while however.
  • Mistaken for Murderer: While Anon sleeps Spitfire considers killing him and acts very tense, turns out Anon was awake the whole time and gets weirded out but Spitfire say's nothing was going to happend.
  • Morton's Fork: At the end Spitfire thinks where should she be; earth or Equestria's world either way she has no true freedom and it comes down to personal interests; Celestia does not mind.
  • Not Used to Freedom: We get examples of this all over the stories, the first part even starts with Spitfire getting out of her special cage for untamed ponies.
  • Only in It for the Money: Spitfire agrees to be in a magazine article where Anon shows how tamed she became, she hates it.
  • Rebellious Spirit: Spitfire depite willing to obey Anon at the start of the story for her own interests still likes to push the boundaries of what she is allowed to do.
    • With being part of Equestria's army she was even more of a rebel after being captured for a long while.
  • Rule-Abiding Rebel: Justified, Spitfire would rather not return to her shitty cage so while in human society she obeys the rules, she also makes Anon help her with trying to find her old connections.
  • Safe Zone Hope Spot: Thatch's whole plan is this trope, to take the foals "somewhere else".
  • Slave Collar: Most ponies wear them by default, Spitfire spends most of the time with a special shock collar for the untamed ones.
  • Slave Race: Everyone sentient from Equestria's world has been captured, they have no freedom and are not recognized as independent free beings.
  • Sympathetic Slave Owner: They are not rare in the story, the main one being Anon the deuteragonist.
  • The Plague: Implied to have happened before a war between ponies and changelings.
  • The Promised Land: Ponies on earth seem to think Equestria is the land of honey and milk but as it turns out its been taken over by humans and the portals to Equestria's world are heavily monitored.
  • The Powers That Be: They lead a human military group and took over Equestria and its world, then proceeded to enslave its inhabitants.
  • Power Nullifier: Unicorns are given magic suppressant pills a very standard trope in /spg/.
