Family Reunion is a The Legend of Spyro fanfic by The1upguy. It focuses on Spyro after the events of Dawn of the Dragon. Now back in Warfang, he and Cynder end up meeting his biological family. Things get a bit rocky but Spyro's family eventually work past their beef with Cynder (who killed Spyro's biological father) and come to accept her. However, all is not well as Spyro's younger brother and another hatchling are kidnapped, with a message left stating that the kidnapper wants Cynder if the city ever wants to see the children again. From there, Spyro and Cynder most rally themselves and others to clear Cynder's name and save the children.

Except they get a bit sidetracked along the way. And their quest might be pointless anyways since the kidnapper is not interested in harming the hatchlings anyways...

The story was originally posted in 2015 and can be read here.

Warning, unmarked spoilers.

Family Reunion contains examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Spyro and Cynder's quest to save the hatchlings from Kooresh is pointless because he never intended to harm the hatchlings anyways, treated them rather nicely, and returned them to Warfang at the end of the time frame he mentioned prior anyway. He intended to do so regardless of whether Spyro and Cynder did so or not.
  • Big Bad: Subverted. Kooresh is the one who kidnapped the hatchlings and states to Warfang he wants to kill Cynder, but that's a ruse. He treats the hatchlings kindly, stops his underling Shadow from harming them, and fully intended to return them to their families after everything is done. In fact he does just that at the end of the story.
  • Random Events Plot: Technically the story does have an overarching narrative, which is the focus on Spyro's family and the kidnapping of Blake and Shale, but things more or less happen at random with the focus on the main plot being all over the map. Like Cynder's brother showing up and trying to kill her, getting over it, Spyro meeting his family, random scenes of said family playing or interacting, Shale and Blake getting kidnapped, what is basically a poker game between the guardians and other dragons, and so on before Spyro and Cynder finally set out to save the hatchlings. That's not even including random moments of interaction between Kooresh and the hatchlings he kidnapped.
  • Suicide by Cop: What Kooresh actually wants. He fell into a suicidal depression ever since losing his wife and child in the war with Malefor. He intends Spyro and Cynder to kill since he can not kill himself, either being unwilling to or unable to. And he notes only Spyro may be powerful enough to end him. He gets past this, however.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years:
    • Blake and Shale, a three and four-year-old respectively, show awareness and maturity beyond what typically children their age might accomplish. They even manage to talk Kooresh out of his suicidal depression. Granted part of that involved Kooresh interacting with young children like them and their innocence reigniting a spark within him or making him see life is worth living.
    • Cyrus, one of Spyro's brothers, because he had to be strong for his mother and younger brother. There is even an entire chapter relating to this called "Really Mature", which is chapter 20.
