Epitaph
by The Muses of Mars is a Jem Dark Fic that began in 2012.
The fic begins with The Holograms going to a zoo together. While there, Kimber gets separated from her friends. She doesn't turn up quickly as expected.
Epitaph initially reads like a Jem episode until something goes wrong during Kimber's kidnapping. In a dark twist, Kimber ends up dead and the story gets a lot darker.
Epitaph provides examples of:
- Dark Fic: Kimber ends up kidnapped and murdered after going to the zoo with her friends.
- Death by Falling Over: Zipper pushes Kimber into the bumper of his car while attempting to kidnap her. She isn't breathing when he checks on her a few hours later.
- Death Fic: Kimber gets a concussion and dies partway through the fic.
- Hostage Situation: Zipper kidnaps Kimber for Eric. However, he hits her too hard on the head and accidentally kills her.
- I Didn't Mean to Kill Him: Zipper slams Kimber's head into the bumper of his car and then puts her in the trunk. When he checks a few hours later, he notices that she isn't breathing. His comrades ditch him upon learning a simple kidnapping has turned into a murder situation.
- Modern AU Fic: All the characters have modern 2010s technology instead of 1980s tech.
- Punk in the Trunk: Zipper kidnaps Kimber by putting her in his car's trunk. She, however, is dead when he checks on her later, either due to a concussion or a concussion combined with being in the trunk.
