made by RockSunner, for Miraculous Ladybug.
Unlike his Smart Adversaries AU for that series, this is not an Alternate Timeline that branches off from a different decision made by a Ladybug villain.
Instead, it is based off ideas for the episode "Ephemeral", which was in the future when this was written.
This is a 4-chapter work and it is now completed.
This fanfiction work contains examples of:
- Grandfather Paradox: Ephemeral is immune to it, having become a distinct being from the Luka of his original timeline. This means he won't disappear no matter what he does to the timeline and no matter what happens to Luka. Only dismissing his akuma can free him.
- He Knows Too Much: In the next to last timeline, Luka is mistaken for a sentimonster who has learned their identities and he is nearly killed by Chat Noir.
- Heel–Face Turn: The akuma Ephemeral gives up and gives Ladybug a way to defeat Wishmaster without using Viperion. Luka ends up not knowing the secret identities which troubled him and got him akumatized.
- Intangibility: Ephemeral is like a ghost, but he can affect the real world by possessing Luka and changing his actions.
- Reset Button: In this AU it's Ephemeral's "rewind" power.
- The Unmasking: There are several reveals on multiple timelines all leading to catastrophies and all undone.
