Tropes in endure this tragedy that we like to call home include:

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Tsumugi is nonbinary and goes by they/them pronouns.
  • And I Must Scream: Kiibo, being Team Danganronpa's intellectual property, is kept prisoner inside a tablet and abandoned in a storage closet.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Because of Team Danganronpa's influence, Shuichi was forced to be in a relationship with Kaede and has hated every year spent with her. He even imagines strangling her as she's sleeping.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Team Danganronpa is still alive and making more killing game seasons for the world to enjoy while the Ultimates of the V3 are forced to live on with their own miseries.
  • Berserk Button: For Gonta, it's anything that relates to death as it makes him remember his own televised death.
  • Cat Fight: Defied between Maki and Kaede. The two women get into a brutal fistfight with each other in public due to the bad blood between them reaching its breaking point.
  • Compromising Memoirs: Tenko has channeled her efforts into making a memoir to describe her tragic life at the hands of Danganronpa.
  • Disabled in the Adaptation: Kokichi has to use a wheelchair to move around. Most likely as a consequence from being crushed by a hydraulic press.
  • Existential Horror: Implied with Himiko. The Former Ultimate Magician believes that she's in possession of a girl's body that wasn't hers to begin with.
  • Fake Relationship: After their season concluded, Team Danganronpa asked Shuichi to hook up with one of his popular Love Interests, making him pick between Kaede and Kokichi. He chose Kaede. This eventually led to them being stuck together for twelve years and counting.
  • First-Name Basis: After living together for enough time, Miu allows Tenko to call her by her first name.
  • Forbidden Love: Played With. Because Kirumi only placed tenth in her season's popularity poll, she's forbidden from pursuing anyone with romantic interest. The moment she kisses another woman on impulse, every news outlet makes a big deal out of it and her agent furiously orders her to make a public apology.
  • Hated by All: Korekiyo has come to accept that the entire world hates him after his controversial performance. Including his classmates, leading him to isolate himself from them along with the rest of the world.
  • I Have No Daughter: Himiko was disowned from her family after she auditioned for Danganronpa.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Tsumugi may have willingly been a mastermind serving under Team Danganronpa, but they've ultimately repented for their actions and view the organization with the upmost scorn.
  • The Hermit: Korekiyo prefers to stay at home at all times and only goes out once a month to see his big sister who's in prison.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Kokichi, Rantaro and Angie live together.
  • Jaded Professional: Angie still uses her artistic talent and paints a variety of pictures to pass the time. But she often feels frustrated and burns them right away as she still feels empty afterwards.
  • Jaded Washout: The story plays with the concept of the V3 students dealing with the aftermath of their time in the Danganronpa circuit 12 years into the future.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Himiko has tried to rescue Kiibo from Team Danganronpa's clutches on three separate occasions, all of which have turned out disastrous.
    • The last time they saw each other, Kaito broke his former sidekick's arm while Shuichi dislocated his knee in return.
  • Official Couple: Maki and Tsumugi are now a couple.
  • Old Shame: In-Universe. Team Danganronpa consider their 59th season to be their biggest failure as of yet.
  • Punch a Wall: Gonta tends to do this at home whenever he gets agitated.
  • The Resenter: Kirumi resents the fact that Tsumugi gets to be in a relationship with Maki despite the fact that she ranked the lowest in DR's popularity polls. Kirumi herself is forbidden from pursuing anyone because she only placed tenth, meaning she "isn't high enough to deserve a romance arc".
  • Stalker without a Crush: Kaito is stated to have moved several times to avoid weird stalkers hunting him down.
  • Stepford Smiler: Rantaro does his best to pretend that he's okay and that his roommates shouldn't worry about him. But behind his smile lies a tired man who's aware that he's breaking down from within.
  • Stopped Caring: As angry as he is at Danganronpa, Gonta can't help but continue watching it's newer seasons to pass the time.
  • Switching P.O.V.: The story covers the sixteen Former Ultimates as they go about their future lives.
  • There Are No Therapists: Zigzagged. The V3 Ultimates have access to therapists to help them with their respective traumas. But many of them find the practices to be ineffective.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Deconstructed with Kaito and Shuichi. Their friendship has devolved into this many years their killing game. And even though they still reunite from time to time, they're only one tick away from physically assaulting each other.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: Because Kiibo is an artificial intelligence born for the sole purpose of public entertainment, his creators forbid him from being allowed to leave their property. To the robot's dismay, his A.I. is kept in a tablet inside a storage closet and has been forgotten by almost everyone.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The core concept plays like a "Where Are They Now?" TV special that briefly delves into the current lives of each Ultimate. As the summary states, no one is in a happy place.
