Emerald is a Persona fanfic written by WhiteFangofWhoa.

Six years after the end of Persona 5, a first-year student named Aiko Tsuruga attends Koashimizu Academy in the city of Tosashimizu in hopes of calling it home. However, she soon finds herself entangled in events involving a mysterious power known as Persona and creatures called Shadows after following her roommate through a mysterious gate to another world in Yume Bay, which only appears when the sun sets into the ocean.

Aiko eventually learns that this world is known as Faraway Lands, an endless sea full of Lands, manifested places of people's dreams and desires as a means of escape from their problems and reality. With the human world in danger of falling into regression once more, Aiko must prevent further catastrophe while finding new allies and developing her Persona ability before it's too late.

Emerald provides examples of:

  • Cassandra Truth: The Dream Voyagers attempt to explain the truth about Faraway Lands to Shukiji in Chapter 48. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't believe them.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Pelagio first appears in Chapter 1 as a seemingly regular saker falcon until his proper introduction in Chapter 4.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Doorstopper: The fic has over 65 chapters and 700,000 words.
  • Elsewhere Fic: The story takes place six years after Persona 5's conclusion but has its original setting and character cast, though there are occasional references to the games. The Phantom Thieves even show up at some point.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Mira tells Aiko to stay away from her during their first meeting, fearing that the younger first-year student will get ostracized if she tries to be friends with her.
  • Happily Married: Ryuji and Ann, as Chapter 51 reveals.
  • Hate Sink: There are at least a few of them so far:
    • Benihime Kujou, good grief. She uses her position as Student Disciplinary Committee President to force others to take her side, bullies students she doesn't consider Japanese in her eyes, and scapegoats people just because they dared to stand up to her.
    • Ms. Mattora. From what was seen and mentioned earlier in the story, she's a supporter of JCAP and a teacher who treats her students terribly, especially poor Mira.
  • Japanese Honorifics: Just like in canon, the characters use honorifics to address each other.
  • Last-Name Basis: In an intriguing case for a Persona fanfic, the main human characters almost always refer to each other by their last names.
  • Mythology Gag: Chapter 14 has Byzael tell Aiko about a boy who caught the Samegawa River's legendary Guardian.
  • Next Sunday A.D.: The fic takes place in 2023, almost five and a half years after the first chapter's publication.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: As per the game series' fashion since Persona 3, the main characters (sans Pelagio) have to balance their school life and Faraway Lands explorations.
