- While Isabela was pressured into being Abuela's "golden child" and marrying a man she doesn't love in canon, here they add on the self-imposed pressures of trying to be the "perfect wife" for Mirabel.
- While Mirabel doesn't have the pressures of being the only Un-Sorcerer in the Madrigal Family in this version, Alma is much more open about her contempt towards her due to not being her granddaughter, mixed with having a wife who acts aloof because she doesn't want to burden her with her own aforementioned perfectionist-angst.
- Heroic RRoD: In her attempts at maintaining her Stepford Smiler facade, Isabela ends up overworking herself and developing bruises all along her body in using her Green Thumb powers.
- Heteronormative Crusader: While Alma already didn't approve of Isabela and Mirabel's relationship, when she begins to think that their union is somehow responsible for the cracks in their home she actively tries to break them up, either by pairing Isabela or Mirabel up with Mariano.
- Politically Correct History: While the time period Encanto is set in is never elaborated on, the noticeable lack of electricity puts it somewhere between the late 19th-century and 20th-century. No matter how beloved the Madrigals would have been or how isolated the Encanto was, there was no way that a lesbian couple would have been accepted on a social level, let alone be officially married in a very Catholic setting like Colombia.
- Unrelated in the Adaptation: While Mirabel was the second youngest member of the Madrigal family and Isabela's youngest sister in Encanto, here she was a regular girl in the village who ends up becoming a Madrigal by marrying Isabela.
- What If?: While Mirabel was the one who discovered Bruno in the walls in the original film, here it was Isabela who discovers him.
