The Dual Destinies Saga is a Kingdom Hearts fanfiction series written by AuraofOblivion
. Starting with Kingdom Hearts: Dual Destinies back in August 2012, the series takes place after an alternate version of Kingdom Hearts III, so canon events and lore from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and onward have not happened. Currently, AuraofOblivion is writing/publishing the side part of Kingdom Hearts: Paved With Gold, titled Paved With Gold: Dusk To Dawn.
As for the story, it follows Sora on another journey after the Destiny Islands were destroyed by a new wielder of darkness. Accompanying Sora is a new Keyblade wielder named Luna, an amnestic original character. Alongside these two, to name a few, are Donald Duck, Goofy, Riku, Kairi, the Radiant Garden crew, the Twilight Town gang (sans Isa), and Master Yen Sid. Opposing our heroes are Maleficent, the original villain Abraxas, the organizations KRONOS and Moria’s Crescent.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Alternate History: This fanfiction saga is set in a different version of Kingdom Hearts III. The original character, Neuge, has a role in the backstories of Eraqus, Xehanort, and Yen Sid. There is finally the Keyblade War, which took place about a thousand years before the story began.
- Break the Cutie: Several characters end up in this trope throughout the saga. Sora, especially, suffers from several triggering events starting with Auron's sacrifice in Olympus.
- Flying Books: One book flew into Sora and Luna's arms. Too bad this book's contents pushed Sora into a Heroic BSoD.
