Dream of Acedia (Be Your True Mind) is a OMORI/Persona 5 crossover fic written by Phurtershep.

Sunny hasn’t left his house in the four years since his sister Mari’s death. No matter how much Kel tried, Sunny wouldn’t open the door. Not wanting to give up on his old friend, he decides to send out a request to the Phantom Thieves to change Sunny’s heart.

There is also a Google doc written by the author that contains basic information about the main characters. As it is updated as the story progresses, do be aware of spoilers.

Examples:

  • Adaptational Badass: Sunny’s friend group gradually awaken to their own Personas as they explore Headspace.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Charlene was a (presumably) cisgender girl in canon, but as of chapter 26 they have come out as nonbinary.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In Persona 5, Joker could only romance women. Here, a phone conversation with Hero reveals that Ren had feelings for Akechi, though he clarifies that he’s also attracted to women, making him bisexual.
  • Bland-Name Product: In Chapter 16, Kel and Hero watch Ren play Devil May Care, with the protagonist being called Al Dente instead of Dante.
  • Canon Welding: In this fic, Headspace is an elaborate Palace formed from Sunny’s repression, with its residents being cognitions.
  • Code Name: Along with Joker and Mona, the Omori cast are also given Phantom Thief names.
    • Aubrey: Gladiolus
    • Kel: Nomad
    • Hero: Sentinel
  • De-power: Ren starts out with Raoul and a set of Personas to use in Sunny’s Palace. However, an early encounter with Omori strips him of them and leaves him with only Arsene.
  • Elemental Powers: As usual for Personas, each of the characters specializes in a particular element.
    • Ren’s Arsene uses Eiha skills.
    • Morgana’s Diego uses Garu skills.
    • Aubrey’s Bellona has Agi spells.
    • Kel’s Libertas is able to use Frei skills.
    • Hero’s Iustitia learns Kouha skills.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Aubrey doesn’t like it when Morgana calls her “Lady Aubergine”.
  • Experienced Protagonist: By the time Ren heads to Faraway, the Phantom Thieves have been around for about three years and are much more experienced than when they started. This is shown with Ren and Morgana having Raoul and Diego, their third-tier Personas from Royal, though Raoul is quickly switched out for Arsene.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Kel deciding to contact the Phantom Thieves to help Sunny is what leads Ren and Morgana to go to Faraway and enter Headspace.
  • Identical Stranger: If Hero’s reaction to seeing Safie is any indication, she bears an uncanny resemblance to Mari.
  • Lost Lenore: In addition to Mari being one to Hero, Ren has Akechi. While he acknowledges that Akechi wasn’t the best person, and that he fell in love with a serial killer, his death still deeply affected him.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The fic’s subtitle is the same one used for the original version of Persona.
    • When Ren introduces himself to Kel and Polly, he uses the pseudonym Akira Kurusu, which was his name in the manga.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Alongside Joker, the Omori cast are given surnames.
    • Joker is named Ren Amamiya.
    • Sunny’s last name is Suzuki, which is a common fanon surname for him.
    • Kel’s full name is Kelsey Desoto. Similarly, Hero’s real name is Henry Desoto.
    • Aubrey’s full name is Aubergine Williams.
    • Basil’s last name is Fey.
    • Kim (and by extension Vance) has the last name White.
  • Noodle Incident: Morgana mentioning Yukari and Rise implies that the Phantom Thieves had encountered the Shadow Operatives and the Investigation Team at some point.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Averted with Hero. The narration often refers to him as Henry, though it occasionally switches to using Hero.
    • To a lesser extent, Kel and Aubrey also apply. While the narration and the characters call them just that, their full names (Kelsey and Aubergine, respectively) are occasionally brought up.
  • Original Generation: Among the residents of the Velvet Room this time around is Safie, a mysterious woman in a white dress who claims that her job is help Ren find those that are “intentionally repressed”.
  • Race Lift: Downplayed. In canon, the race of the characters are never quite specified, though Aubrey and Basil appear to be white. The fic goes with the common headcanons of portraying Sunny and Mari as at least half-Japanese, while Hero and Kel are Hispanic.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: The Personas of the Faraway gang so far are all based on Roman goddesses. Aubrey gets Bellona, Kel has Libertas, and Hero’s is Iustitia.
  • Setting Update: While an exact year hasn’t been given in Omori, it’s generally agreed to be set around the early 2000s. Due to crossing over with Persona 5 (which is implied to be set in 2016), here it takes place in 2019.
  • Significant Birth Date: Ren’s birthday is given as October 31st, also known as Halloween. Fitting for someone who summons his Persona with a mask and dons a different outfit while in the Metaverse.
