Dragon of the Eldritch is a crossover between the Cthulhu Mythos and High School D×D written by AkumaKami64.

Instead of a fallen angel, Issei is approached by a very different girl. One who takes great offence to attempts on Issei's life. The Supernatural realms of Earth are about to find out how small they really are now that Azathoth has found her beloved.

Currently ongoing, at 28 chapters and 115,630 words.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Thanks to Aza's Positive Friend Influence, Issei is markedly less perverted than canon, mostly due to being preoccupied with making sure that she doesn't accidentally drive others insane.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: The Angels, Fallen Angels, and Devils are well aware that they are literally nothing compared to the Eldritch, choosing to not interfere in their matters to avoid losses.
  • Ascended Extra: Aika is an Eldritch cultist, making her much more involved with the supernatural
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Aza, big time
  • Big Sister Instinct:
    • Serafall is understandably worried for the safety of her younger sister Sona when she gets wind of Azathoth showing up at Kuoh Academy, resulting in Sirzechs having to talk her out of retrieving Sona from Kuoh lest she provoke Azathoth's wrath.
    • The same applies for Sirzechs, but he is somewhat more rational about it, deciding to wait and observe before making any moves to prevent any undue trouble.
  • Brain Bleach: Asia requests Yog to erase her memory of Issei having sex with Aza, Aika, Nctosa, and Nctolhu, which the time deity is happy to oblige by removing the memory of the event's messed-up details.
  • Bring Me My Brown Pants:
    • Koneko ends up wetting herself from the sheer tension of the standoff between Sona, Rias, and Aza. It is only defused by Issei kissing Aza on the cheek as a gesture of reassurance to all parties.
    • She does it again after nearly being killed by Igartha, right after experiencing Shub's Mama Bear rage.
  • Brown Note:
    • Aza inflicts primal, terrorizing fear upon Koneko by complete accident when she unleashes her true form upon the Fallen Angels trying to kill Issei. Luckily, Koneko manages to recover with some help from Madame Yi (heavily implied to be Yidhra).
    • In general, the Eldritch are capable of breaking one's sanity just by existing, which is why they often choose human forms when interacting with leser beings.
  • Bullying a Dragon:
    • Raynare believes she can take on Aza and kill Issei with the help of her fellow Fallen Angels Mittlet, Kalawarner, and Dohnaseek. Their demises prove otherwise.
    • All the other girls at Kuoh try to make Aza break up with Issei by bringing up his numerous perverted deeds. If it isn't for Issei making sure that Aza doesn't fly off the handle, she would have driven them all to madness without even trying to.
  • Canon Welding: The Agtsun'lutun and its Blattnung guards were created by AkumaKami64 merging together a few bits of Jupiter related lore from the canonical Cthulhu Mythos, namely references to a prison on Jupiter and "insect-philosophers" on one of its moons.
  • Cooldown Hug: Rias gives Koneko one to help her calm down from her near-Freak Out from realizing that someone far, far superior to Rias and her older brother knows what is happening on Earth is from Yi's get-well letter.
  • Cosmic Horror: Elements of it are incorporated (namely, the Three Factions being completely outclassed by the Eldritch), but given that this is a High School D×D fanfic, the story doesn't fall completely into it.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • Raynare and her crew (minus Freed, who wasn't there) die at the hands of Azathoth instead of Rias, and instead of just dying, all of them are erased from reality itself.
    • Freed Sellzen himself is dragged off by the Hound of Tindalos to "somewhere where even the Black Pharoah won't try to grab you" instead of being cut down by Kiba.
  • Did You Just Romance Cthulhu?: Issei is the boyfriend of Azathoth, the leader of the Eldritch Abomination faction in the story.
  • Double Take: Chapter 3 has this. After Yog interrupts their first time, Aza asks if 'cunt-blocking' was a thing. issei let's a confused response before he realises that he was about to lose his V-card and it was interrupted.
Aza: You vexing-! Do humans have a word for this? Issei, is cunt-blocking a thing?
Issei: Well, yeah I guess? (Then the implication hits him) Wait, we were about to fuck? Okay?! Who the hell are you and why are you cockblocking me?!
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Eldritch, natch.
  • Emo Teen: The Eldrititans are seen as the Eldritch equivalent of edgy teenagers trying way too hard at being serious by trying to overthrow the Eldritch leadership and modify the Eldritch morality system from Blue-and-Orange Morality to Black-and-White Morality.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Downplayed; while Nyarlathotep isn't too happy about the minor Eldritch attacking the harpies since they're one of the terrestrial species she likes, she's happily takes the soul of the Sole Survivor of the attack and converts them into one of her playthings.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Aza has a hands-free approach to her rule, but still has rules for the Eldritch that they're expected to respect. When they don't, they're punished by being sent to the prison in the Eye of Jupiter.
    • Arranged Marriage is not something that Aza approves of either, as shown with her annoyance at the concept after Akeno explains it to her.
  • Extranormal Prison: The Agtsun'lutun, or Prison of the Red Storm, is a prison for rule-breaking Eldritch built into a dwarf planet hidden within the Eye of Jupiter.
  • Foreshadowing: Aza's choice of Shin Godzilla during her date with Issei all but foreshadows her true identity as Azathoth. Considering that the film's title creature is by far the weirdest out of all of Godzilla's incarnations, the comparison is quite apt
  • Gender Flip: Nyarlathotep and Azathoth are genrally treated as masculine in the Cthulhu Mythos. Both are female here.
  • God Is Dead: Aza casually reveals this in Chapter 12, having apparently thought it was common knowledge among mortals.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Issei's current status thanks to apotheosis via Aza.
  • Human Pet: Aza considers Asia to be this to her and Issei.
  • Insectoid Aliens: The Blattnungs, who operate the Eldritch's prison facility on Jupiter, are described as looking like a mix of fireflies and cockroaches.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: Yog-Sothoth shows up just when Aza and the newly-ascended Issei were about to get frisky to introduce herself to them, much to their chagrin.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Rias and Sona make preparations to leave Earth with their peerages after Aza enrolls at Kuoh Academy to avoid any further mishaps.
  • Lovecraft Lite: Yes, the Eldritch are leagues above the supernatural factions, but luckily for everyone else, their boss is in love with Issei and just wants to live a peaceful life with her boyfriend.
  • Mama Bear: Shub nearly kills Rias' peerage in a blind rage when they fight and injure her child Igartha in self-defense, and only stops when Issei shows up to put his foot down.
  • Mundane Wish: The reason why Aza shows up on Earth? She just wants to be with her beloved for all eternity after she fell in love with Issei for his innate kindness despite his perversion and other flaws, kickstarting the entire plot of the fic.
  • Noodle Incident: At some point in the past, Ddraig accidentally crushed a few of Shub-Niggurath's Dark Young during a brawl he had with Albion, something he fears will bring her wrath upon him. Luckily for Ddraig, Shub's not hung up about it at all, as that she had warned those particular Dark Young to not mess with Earth dragons after they decided to hunt stronger draconic beings for a change, with their choice to ignore that leading to their deaths at the hands of said dragons, who didn't even know that those Dark Young had arrived on Earth to hunt them.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Ddraig has one when he finds out that the person he's talking to none other than Azathoth after Aza offhandedly mentions who she is.
Ddraig: (after learning of Aza's true identity)... holy shit, I am so screwed.
    • Freed instantly loses his smug facade the moment Yad reveals that Nyarlathotep is watching him and devolves into a panicking mess once the Hound of Tindalos makes its appearance.
    • Azathoth has one when she realizes that she forgot to notify Issei about Nyarlathotep arriving on Earth after Yog-Sothoth brings her up in their conversation in the Dimensional Gap.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Ddraig mentions to Aza that he has fought and defeated the True Dragons from Glyu-Uho a few times in the past.
  • Outside-Context Problem: No one expected Azathoth to appear on Earth, and almost nothing is known about the Eldritch, which is why everyone in the supernatural community gives them a wide berth.
  • Point of Divergence: The entire premise is this, with Aza replacing Raynare as Issei's first date. Things quickly jump off the rails afterwards.
    • Since Issei isn't killed by Raynare, he is not converted into a Pawn-class Devil by Rias and is instead converted into an Eldritch by Aza, with the option for him to be an Elder God, Great Old One, or Outer God.
    • The engagement of Raiser to Rias is called off by Sirzechs, effectively butterflying the Phenex Rating Game out of the story.
  • Power Levels: Carrying over from the author's other Cthulhu Mythos fanfiction Love Azathoth is the power scaling between the Eldritch Abomination species of the Mythos, with Elder Gods being the weakest but closest to mortals, Outer Gods being the most powerful but the most distant, and Great Old Ones occupying the middle ground.
  • Ret-Gone: Raynare, Mittlet, Kalawarner, and Dohnaseek are erased from reality itself by Azathoth when they attempt to kill Issei.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • All of the Devils, Fallen Angels, and Angels decide to get the hell off of Earth for the time being until the Eldritch leave after Aza's arrival is known to avoid getting stuck between whatever otherwordly happenings may occur. Some might not get the message...
    • When Yog-Sothoth and Shub-Niggurath are clearly about to get into some relationship drama, Issei advises the Devils to all quickly leave before they get dragged into it, and Aza drags him away for the same reason.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Nyarlathotep. Dear Azathoth, Nyarlathotep. While the eldritch themselves run on Blue-and-Orange Morality (which they themselves confirm), for the most part the eldritch entities that we have seen like Azathoth and Yog-Sothoth are friendly and easy to get along with at best and benign at worst. Nyarlathotep, on the other hand, is by Aza's own admission every bit as malevolent and cruel as the myths make her out to be, and we immediately see this with her amused reaction to the slaughter of the harpies.
  • Troll: Yog-Sothoth loves to prank people whenever she feels like it, and Nyarlathotep even more so if Aza's reaction to her arrival on Earth is of any indication.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Issei is this for Aza for still loving Aza for who she is despite knowing she's an Eldritch Abomination capable of destroying the universe by complete accident
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Yad-Thaddag tells Freed that Nyarlathotep had already been watching him for quite a while, and in Yad's later conversation with Nyarlathotep, Nyarly all but confirms that she wanted to use Freed as another one of her playthings.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: If you value your life and your sanity, do not harm Issei. Raynare, Mittlet, Kalawarner, and Dohnaseek find out the hard way why it is a terrible idea to try killing the boyfriend of the queen of the entire freaking universe.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Raynare, unlike her canon self, gets axed off in the first chapter in the story and barely gets an impact on Issei whatsoever. Mittlet, Kalawarner, and Dohnaseek even more so, since they get axed off with only having a few lines to say in their introduction chapter before getting deleted from reality alongside Raynare.
