Fanfic / Danmachi: The Last King

Go To

While raiding in the Dungeon, Bell Cranel stumbled upon a chamber containing a mysterious hammer. He took it and was imbued with phenomenal power. Upon returning to his Goddess, Hestia, she informed him that hammer he took belonged to the God of Thunder, Thor.

News spread about Bell's achievement leading many Gods and Familias to chase after the boy, desiring to claim Mjolnir and the power of Thor for themselves. Meanwhile, an ancient dark force has awakened to resume a battle with its old foe.

Danmachi: The Last King is a crossover between Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? and The Mighty Thor. It is made by PowerCore Productions and part of the first phase of Anime X Marvel. It can be read here.

This contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In this fic, the Xenos allied with the Humans and Gods to fight Gorr the God Butcher 500 years ago. However for some reason, the Xenos were branded as traitors. Without Thor, who stood up for them, they were hunted down, forcing them into hiding.
  • Adaptational Species Change:
    • Alien characters from the Marvel comics like Korg and Beta Ray Bill were changed to being members of the Xenos race.
    • In the comics, Gorr was a member of alien race. Here, he was a God that fell from the graces and swore to kill his kind.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Bell uses fire-based abilities in canon like his signature, Fire Bolt. In The Last King, Bell now uses lightning and thunder.
  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • Instead of being called Little Rookie, Bell is called Gale Thunder.
    • Prior to the War Game with the Apollo Familia, Bell trains under the various incarnations of Thor rather than Ais.
    • The Hestia Familia's logo has the symbol of a bell, a hammer and a lightning bolt to pay homage to Thor.
    • Hermes went from just turning Bell into a great hero to also becoming the new Thor.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Enchantress fuses various Dungeon monsters into the Juggernaut making it even stronger.
  • Alternate Self: Bell meets different versions of Thor including the mythological version, classic Marvel Comics, Ultimate Marvel and Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • Big Bad: The Enchantress is this to Season 3, having manipulated Jura and his Familia to awaken the Destroyer which she takes control and intends to unleash it upon Orario.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Loki loved her brother Thor dearly, so she was upset that Bell was somehow able to wield her brother's hammer, Mjolnir and attempted to recruit him into her Familia.
  • Blade on a Rope: Bell wraps chains around Mjolnir to swing it around and hit Silverback multiple times. Bell then throws Mjolnir right down the Silverback's gullet and activates Lightning Bolt, causing the hammer to disintegrate the monster.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Members of the Hestia Familia discuss about vengeance. Those feel that no one should decry someone for having this especially they want to avenge those they love. Others on the other hand feel that if not careful, vengeance could make them go off the deep end and do something immoral.
  • Bullying the Dragon: As Hestia Familia tries to negotiate with the Soma Familia, when the latter group decides to just capture and sell Lili and Hestia, Bell loses his cool and unleashes the power of Thor upon their asses.
  • Chosen One: Bell is granted the power of Thor after Mjolnir deems him worthy.
  • Composite Character: The Black Dragon combines its canon counterpart and Surtur, the Fire Demon.
  • The Dreaded: Gorr the God Butcher is a source of fear for all the Gods and Goddesses of the Danmachi universe due to his ability to kill them permanently. Even saying his name is considered bad luck.
  • Dual Wielding: Bell uses both Mjolnir and a short sword.
  • Empathic Weapon: Mjolnir would only be wielded by those it chooses as its wielder. This comes in handy when thieves like Lili try to steal it from Bell.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Spider: Anansi/Kwaku and by extension his proxy, Ryuu.
  • Implied Death Threat: Bell gives one big warning to the Soma Familia.
Bell: If you so much as dare to cross Hestia's presence, you won't have to worry about your god, Soma anymore because your life will be in my hands. The day you cross me would be the day you'd make the last sorriest mistake in your life.
  • In Spite of a Nail: The Hestia Familia remain having a few members due to Bell rejecting others.
  • Monster Progenitor: In this fic, Gorr is responsible for creating the monsters.
  • Morph Weapon: Mjolnir has seven forms including its hammer form, Stormbreaker, Odinsword and the Valkyrie Shield.
  • Mythology Gag: The person that represents the other Thors and the one that Bell talks to is Donald Blake, based on the identity used by Thor in the comics.
  • Oh, Crap!: Everyone's reaction after learning one of the Destroyers has been revived.
  • Thunder Hammer: Thor's Mjolnir is a powerful weapon that fires lightning. However, the one Bell holds is not the original weapon, but one created by Thor to be a Morph Weapon.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Bell asks Donald and the other Thors if he is worthy of Mjolnir, they assure him that they assess him based on his morals and principles and that if he fails to meet those criteria, nobody on Earth can wield the hammer.
  • What If?:
    • Hestia doesn't need to request Hephaestus to create a knife since Bell has Mjolnir, thus not incurring the massive debt in canon.
    • Following the incident with Lili, the Soma Familia try to attack the Hestia Familia to take Mjolnir.
  • World's Strongest Man:
    • Thor was the most powerful amongst the Gods, even going toe to toe with Gorr the God Butcher.
    • Second behind him is Hercules who even Freya isn't willing to contend with.
