Cyborg Davis is a fanfic written by Dakari-King Mykan that can be found here
. It might not be as infamous as The End of Ends or My Brave Pony: Starfleet Magic, but it's still up there.
Cyborg Davis has the following tropes:
- Adaptation-Induced Plot Hole: In that the plot hole in question wouldn't exist in the original series due to said plot point not existing there. In this fic, Only the Pure of Heart can become DigiDestined, which is ignored in favor of Yami Ninji having a partner Digimon introduced in the same chapter this "rule" is stated. However, the rule itself even existing is a plot hole because of the fact in the original source material, anyone, regardless of alignment, could become a DigiDestined simply by seeing a Digimon (as shown with the Pilot Movie with the first season's cast, or Our War Game for Yolei).
- Author Avatar: Davis becomes this as a side effect of the roboticization.
- Bad Boss: Yami Ninji, Davis' business rival, is pretty much this to his partner Guardromon.
- Character Shilling: Davis is pretty much Mykan's equivalent to Beast Boy in this fic, as it describes him as "A beloved visionary who had turned q single noodle-cart into a global empire chain of success, and renowned greatest Digi Destined" ("Digi" and "Destined" are apparently not one word to him).
- Every Car Is a Pinto: The car hits Davis so hard, its engine somehow explodes.
- Fatal Flaw: Apparently, Davis' robotic state is weak to steam. Izzy manages to fix this.
- Flat Character:
- Davis angsts over Kari and becomes a cyborg. That's it.
- Cyborg Davis is a total jerk when the concept of love is brought up. That's it.
- Veemon ish Davish's partner and speaksh with 'sh' shoundsh as opposhed to 's' shoundsh. That'sh it.
- Yami Ninji is evil and runs a rival noodle company. That's it.
- Guardromon is treated horribly by his boss. That's it.
- Izzy is smart. That's it.
- TK and Kari are Happily Married and therefore must suffer. That's it.
- The rest of the DigiDestined are there. That's literally their entire personality.
- Davis angsts over Kari and becomes a cyborg. That's it.
- Forgot About His Powers: Even if we don't count Digivolution or Armored Digivolution, Veemon apparently forgot that his entire species is physically adept and doesn't even use any of his abilities to save Davis from the car that hits him. He somehow remembers he even has these abilities once he's ExVeemon, in which he demolishes Andromon without breaking a sweat.
- Hollywood Cyborg: The only really organic part of Davis is his face.
- Humiliation Conga: TK and Kari are Happily Married in this fic and therefore our resident chew toys. Naturally, this ends up befalling them at the end.
- Informed Attribute: Davis is referred to as the "greatest DigiDestined" in the fic's own words. While there's no doubt that Davis has had many a
Moment of Awesome, his partner, Veemon, can really only achieve his Ultimate level and beyond through DNA Digivolution with Ken's partner, Wormmon. Though his Armored Digivolutions can go toe to toe with Ultimates in their own right, it's a stretch to say that Davis is the greatest when compared to, for example, Tai and Matt, who have access to the Mega leveled WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon without the other's help. Even if we include Magnamon, a Digimon that's powerful enough to be a Royal Knight, he's always portrayed as an 11th-Hour Superpower, leaving as quickly as he came. Not to mention the fact that Davis' entire group did just as much as he did, and they're somehow not even in the same league.- "Cyborg" Davis is just Davis' brainwaves uploaded into a robotic body. Mimi more or less had the right idea when she said he'd be an android. The fic itself also sometimes uses "android" instead of "cyborg". Maybe it should have been called "Android Davis"?
- ExVeemon's training over the course of 16 years would've been far more impressive had his opponent not been Andromon, as while an Ultimate Level Digimon compared to ExVeemon's Champion Level, another individual Andromon is first shown in Season 1 as effortlessly being curb-stomped by a newly Digivolved Kabuterimon (albeit with Izzy's help), thus rendering the match-up rather moot in significant meaning.
- Jealous Romantic Witness: It's revealed that Yami Ninji had secretly filmed Kari and T.K. having sex, so he could use the footage to physiologically break the ever jealous Davis.
- MST: "Surviving the Future", complete with a story of its own.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Who in the Dark Ocean names their kid "Yami Ninji"?
- Non-Indicative Title: Davis is referred to a Cyborg, but cyborgs typically refer to beings whose bodies are comprised of mechanical and biological parts ("cyborg" means "cybernetic organism"). In the case with Davis, his brain waves are placed into a completely mechanical body meaning that he is more along the lines of an android.
- Protagonist Title: The fic centers on Davis.
- Robot Buddy: Yami Ninji has a Guardromon as his partner. It can Digivolve further into Andromon.
- Shout-Out: Of the plagiarism kind: After Davis' death, his body is seen running a noodle cart with no memory of who he used to be, and pretty much tells Kari that the person he was is "just a memory". Pretty much, word-for-word, the ending to "Things Change". Mykan did this specifically to punish Kari for not hooking up with Davis (yes, really).
- Time Skip: This fic takes place approximately 16 years after season 2, with Davis being aged up from 11 to 27.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: As a result of losing his ability to feel love, he winds up lashing out at TK and Kari without a sense of remorse. He seems to get better by the end, but by that point, he's already dying.
- Unwilling Roboticisation: Davis is put through this in order to save his life, courtesy of Izzy.
- What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Due to some "design flaws", Davis isn't even able to recall what love is. When it's brought up, all he can think about is hatred and jealousy. He gets better, which of course means he has to die.
- The Worf Effect: Kari, TK, and their Digimon are kidnapped by Yami Ninji's clearly human henchmen. Even Gatomon, despite being a Champion level, is taken without a fight.
