This fanfic provides examples of:
- Adaptational Villainy: Canonically, Gregor is just lying to impress Sam. Here he's Freakshow's son. Gregor plots to help his father steal Danny's ghost powers.
- Berserk Button: For Danny, getting accused of being jealous of Gregor. Justified, as he genuinely distrusts him and is frustrated by people ignoring his instincts.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Aside from Vlad and Danny, Ember is transformed into a half ghost.
- Heel–Face Turn: Ember gives up on villainy after falling in love with Danny.
- Vlad also mends fences with Jack after discovering that he paid Vlad's hospital bills after the accident.
- Properly Paranoid: Danny's distrust of Gregor. See Adaptational Villainy above.
- Related in the Adaptation: Gregor is revealed to be Freakshow's son. In the original canon, they were completely unrelated.
- An interesting variation with Vlad and Ember. Initially, as in canon, they have no relation. However, the accident that transforms Ember into a half ghost also makes her Vlad's biological daughter, after which (through machinations of the Ghost of Fate) Ember is established as Vlad's illegitimate daughter, born to a nurse he was close to while recovering from the accident.
