This story has the following Tropes:
- Berserk Button: Black Mari belting out a speech about how worthless she is is answered by Asuka with some weak responses, but the moment Mari insults Rei and Ranma, Asuka had enough. Even with the reveal that Asuka was just stringing Sivana along to see what was her deal, she still decided enough was enough when she said those insults.
- Disappointed by the Motive: Asuka is more than a little surprised (and so is Misato, on the following debriefing) to hear that Sivana did all of this in order to make Asuka susceptible to become an ally of hers, because she was just that desperate to get a friend.
- Evil Counterpart: "Black" Mari, an Alternate of Mari Illustrious Shikinami with the powers of Black Adam, and the haughtiness to match, just looking to beat down Asuka and give her "The Reason You Suck" Speech as she lies there broken. Turns out that she was deliberately engineered by Georgia Sivana in order to obtain maximum anger from Asuka, in her plan to have her unleash all of it, "kill" Mari, and go "dark side".
- How We Got Here: The whole story is being told as a debriefing Asuka is giving Misato in its aftermath.
- Impostor Forgot One Detail: In her long time fighting, Asuka has faced off against people with protective force fields and holographic disguises several times and knows how it feels to punch them—that's why she knew she was going against someone using Powered Armor and a Mari disguise as soon as she gave the first strike. Also it seems that it's pretty hard to get perfectly indestructible glasses (even on The Line), so Mari's glasses not even being scratched after the first hit straight to her face was another sign.
- Let's You and Him Fight: "Marvel" Asuka Langley Shikinami vs. "Black" Mari.
- Strike Me Down with All of Your Hatred!: Georgia's entire plan depends on Asuka "killing" Black Mari in a rage (every detail, including it being Mari (because everybody knows how annoyed/angry Asuka is to "Cap" Mari, at that point of the storyline) was calculated by Georgia Sivana to increase the chances of this happening). Asuka figuring out she's being set up and deals with the threat in a more smart manner completely tosses the plan out the window.
- Who Writes This Crap?!: In-Universe: "Different Universes, Different Rules", and the universe Georgia comes from followed those of The Silver Age Of Comics—such a balls-out stupid plan as the one she was doing actually would have had a very high chance of working on her 'verse... then again, chances of the hero coming back to being a hero at about the same speed as she became a villain were also high.
- You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Asuka's reaction to seeing an amalgam of Black Adam (sworn enemy of Marvel alts like her) and Mari Illustrious Makinami (she actively dislikes the Mari that's also Captain America).
