Child Born of Love is a Soul Eater fanfic written by Princess Falling Star.
Kid and Chrona were lovers separated by the world around them. Now Chrona is left with the consequences of their rash actions and left to deal with it alone.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Adaptational Gender Identity: Chrona in canon was a full-blown case of Ambiguous Gender with the implication that they were an Artificial Human with no biological sex. Here, Chrona is firmly established as being female in body and mind.
- Adaptational Species Change: Many characters received changes due to the fanfic being written and concluded before the finale of the canon manga.
- Death the Kid was a full shinigami created from an aspect of Shinigami-Sama's soul in-canon. Here, he is a Half-Human Hybrid.
- In-canon, Chrona is the androgynous non-witch child of Medusa (implied to have been created artificially). Here Chrona is female and a demi-witch (a rare and dangerous breed of witch that is usually exterminated at a young age) and eventually revealed to be the fabled "Witch of Destruction".
- In-canon, Noah is revealed to be an Artificial Human spawned from the Book of Eibon as a conduit to spread the Madness of Knowledge. Here, he is a warlock and former mister-partner of Kid's mother Maria.
- Affectionate Nickname: After he took over his father, Kid prefers people simply call him "Death." Chrona however still calls him Kid, something he would rather she not do in-front of their children.
- Anti-Magic: Demi-Witches have the distinct power to be immune to all other forms of magic, and also possess powers of their own. They are feared and dreaded among the witch community for this reason. However, they do not gain such power until they come of age and are practically human until this happens, so they are usually killed when they are young before they fully-develop.
- Dark Messiah: After Azalea's birth, Medusa used the existence of her part-shinigami granddaughter to paint Chrona as a form of Madonna Archetype destined to birth children that would bring Witch-kind into a new era of control over the world. Subverted, as it turns out that Chrona really was a destined to become an Antichrist-figure in the form of the "Witch of Destruction". Too bad all of her loved ones are aligned against them.
- Death by Childbirth: As gods of death, only shinigami can survive child-birth when birthing shinigami. Because of this, Maria (who is a demon weapon) died giving birth to her son Death the Kid and Chrona only just barely survived giving birth to Azalea due to her witch genetics.
- Despair Event Horizon: Through the manipulations of the Great Old One of Power and the connection he has to his unborn child, Kid is convinced that he was responsible for his mother’s, Chrona’s and his unborn child’s deaths, slowly being driven mad by it.
- Disabled Deity: Shinigami are able to conjure weapons, but Shinigami-sama lacks this ability and thus has to rely on the use of Death Scythes.
- Evil-Detecting Baby: Shinigami children are able to tell when a relative is holding them, and will cry if anyone else does so. Because of this, Azalea seems to be hyper-aware of those around her. She is happy when she sees a recording Chrona (despite only being a few days old) and is able to tell when her father is in the same room with her even when he is in disguise (and have never officially met). Curiously though, she does not seem to mind being held by Jacque.

- Floral Theme Naming: Chrona named her daughter Azalea after flowers that Kim brought her.
- The Ghost: Much like in the series, Asura is mentioned multiple times, and it is even said that the Witches plan on having Chrona mate with him in their long-term plan to create children that will conquer the world for them. With that said, he never makes an appearance, nor is there any word on his fate by the end.
- Identical Grandson: Dr. Stein puts it together that Chrona is his daughter due to the fact that she looks like his mother Elizabeth. Shinigami-sama points out how obvious it was and is amazed that he did not figure it out sooner.
- Immortal Procreation Clause: The Shinigami suffer from a low birth rate, with only a few girls being born. Because of this, their numbers are dwindling are at risk of dying out (that is if they weren't immortal). Azalea seemed to be a sign that the solution is to breed out, as most of Kid and Chrona's children in the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue are girls.
- Mystical Pregnancy: As part of the proof that Chrona's child is a shinigami, she looks nine months pregnant despite having only been pregnant for four.
- Mythical Motifs: The fabled Witch of Destruction was believed to possess a dragon motif. When Chrona’s inner powers were unlocked and she was outed as the Witch of Destruction, she ends up summoning a massive dragon somewhat similar to Ragnarok’s nidhogg-form, killing Medusa in a single-blow.
- Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Chrona would eventually earn the nickname "Dark Mistress" (not that she likes it or anything).
- Pet Monstrosity: Serafina the dragon that Chrona inadvertently summoned when she became the Witch of Destruction would eventually become the Death family house pet. She can shrink down to the size of a dog and has a fondness for Chrona and her children (though amusingly does not like Kid because of the time and affection Chrona gives him).

- Star-Crossed Lovers: Whether it is because of Noah or Medusa, Kid and Chrona usually either miss each other by a hair's breath (like when a power/despair-drunk Kid makes it to Death City just as Chrona runs away with Azalea) or if they are forced apart by external forces (like Noah banishing Kid into the Book of Eibon), Kid and Chrona seem destined to be kept apart. Thankfully, they eventually Earn Their Happy Ending.
- "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: "My Family" takes place many years in the future. Kid eventually took over his father’s title and married Chrona, having much more children who have since gone on to have families of their own.
