Fanfic / Castle Crashing Canterlot

"Beat up the bad guys, shoot magic out of your fist, slap a changeling in the face with a sausage and kiss the Princesses when you're done. Sounds like a plan."
The short description, showing you exactly what you're in for.

With Chrysalis and the Changelings actually managing a competent invasion, Twilight remembers the legend of her four favorite statues in the Canterlot Gardens. With nothing to lose, Twilight breaks the knights free to help her free Equestria.

She then finds out why they were sealed in the first place.

Written by Nazkan, Castle Crashing Canterlot is a crossover between, you guessed it, Castle Crashers and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Bringing all the awesome and humor from Castle Crashers, as well as a surprising amount of drama, the fic is a hilarious read from start to finish.

  • Adorkable: Twilight doesn't show this like in the show due to all the stress she's going through. However, right after the windigo battle, blue knight awkwardly asks Cadance for a kiss.
  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Spike asks if everyone can go around the mountains. Both Twilight and Blue Knight glare at him for his stupidity.
  • A Knight Is You: The knights here all have their own specialties, just like you could choose to in the game.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Twilight. Because of all the experiences with the knights, she actually manages to hold off THREE OF THEM as they are under Chrysalis' mind control... or rather, her dream.
  • Badass:
  • Bash Brothers: The knights. They fight over the food, who gets the powerups, who gets the sweet rides, the princesses... In other words, like pretty much any game of Castle Crashers.
  • The Bet: Blue and Green bet over... something while Red is boomeranging a baboon. Twilight is disappointed she wasn't included.
  • Big Eater: All of the knights love a good feast.
  • Blood Knight: All of the knights also love a good scuffle. And how apt that they're knights.
  • Boss Rush: The group faces bosses from the game as they ascend Canterlot Tower.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The knights may be stupid, hyperactive and absolute idiots... but they're legends for a reason.
  • Butt-Monkey: Spike is generally forgotten in the latter half of the story. The story ends with Twilight suddenly realizing that she turned Spike to stone alongside the knights... and asking for a chisel.
    • To a lesser extent, the Red Knight. Green Knight rubbed two failures in his face, he got the strength sandwich stolen from him and all his bros laughed at him as Cadence plants a wet one on the Blue Knight.
  • Clean Pretty Reliable: Just like in the game, the knights can be revived with CPR. Twilight doesn't believe it. The Red Knight ''tells'' her repeatedly to just get on with it.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander: All the knights. If it doesn't involve fighting of smooching princesses or eating... May god have mercy on your sanity.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Landers Minder: Twilight gets saddled with this role. The Red Knight sort of helps her... barely.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: The only reason the Red Knight joins in his brothers' insane plans. They may be stupid, they may be reckless, they may defy all logic... but they work.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: The Red Knight often does this because he's the Only Sane Man.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: All of the knights' battles until the Windigo. Red Knight massacres loads of Changelings and a baboon by himself although not by choice while Green Knight pretty much manhandles Sombra.
  • Death Glare: Due to his brothers' general insanity, Red Knight pulls this on them a lot.
  • Destructive Savior: The knights. Which is why they were statues. Because only the Red Knight has any self control, the four of them end up causing more damage than any villains they defeat. And Celestia hates herself for having to seal them every time.
  • Escort Mission: The entire story is pretty much this. Twilight can't handle the changelings alone, but the knights are too stupid to do anything other than kill stuff and they can't even open doors. So Twilight "guides" the knights while the the knights (Mostly the red knight) protect Twilight.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everyone just calls the knights "(Color) Knight". Twilight is comfortable enough just to call the Red Knight "Red". And so is Celestia.
  • Expecting Someone Smarter: The knights certainly live up to their fighting prowess... but they're absolute idiots when it comes to anything other than fighting. Thus, without any experience beforehand, Twilight refuses to believe that they can't even open her front door.
  • Giving Someone the Pointer Finger: Being unable to talk just like his brothers, this is how the Red Knight displays his anger.
  • Improvised Weapon: With his Ice Magic useless against a being made of ice, the blue knight gets a new weapon... in SPIKE.
  • In a Single Bound: All the knights have the magic jump from the game.
  • Lazy Backup: The first battle has the Red Knight laying the smackdown on hoards of changelings by himself because the others are being... themselves.
  • Meteor Move: The green knight, after combining a midair beatdown with a an arrow barrage, slams Sombra back down to the ground.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: Spike is constantly forgotten.
"Twilight: There are five... No six of us, forgot Spike counts too."
  • Not So Above It All: The Red Knight may make the most sense among the knights and may be willing to listen to you... but he's just as whacked out as the rest of them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: This is how Twilight figures she's inside Chrysalis' dream. The knights are actually making sense.
  • Only Sane Man: The Red Knight, for the knights. Twilight, for the entire group. Deconstructed with the Red Knight. He is LITERALLY the only one who has any reason at all out of the four. He knows why they have to be turned to stone... And he also knows that they don't have to like it.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Twilight tries to think up a plan to sneak past the changelings, when Spike assures her about the knights' "stealthy ninja techniques". She turns around... and sees all of them with mustaches. She gives up and goes along with them. AND IT WORKS!
  • Sealed Badass in a Can: The knights. Deconstructed. Being badass is the only thing they know how to do. Only Red has any reason or restraint. Left on their own, they could destroy everything. Thus, after every adventure, they are turned to stone till the next great throwdown.
  • Smooch of Victory: Just like the game, the knights have an obsession with kissing princesses. In fact, in an odd inversion of a wake up kiss, Red Knight, right AFTER Twilight wakes HIM up, plants her a wet one, mistaking her for a princess.
  • Twice Shy: Fluttershy (How appropriate, no?) and Orange Knight.
  • Video Game Cruelty Potential: In all its glory, every form of cruelty a player could do to his fellow knights is recreated. Green Knight steals all the food, Orange Knight called dibs to a manticore, Blue Knight steals the strength-enhancing sandwich and Red Knight... uh...
  • Violation of Common Sense: Nearly everything the knights do. Twilight's sanity takes a lot of blows over the adventure.
  • Voice for the Voiceless: The Blue Knight is somehow able to get Spike to understand what they want to say to Twilight.
