Café Liégeois

Anna is a young college student working part-time as a barista at Starbucks. One day a customer walks in that catches her eye. Enter Elsa, a blind woman who goes to the same college as Anna. Anna is quickly smitten by Elsa and, after an awkward first encounter, the two become friends.
Café Liégeois is a "Modern AU" Anna/Elsa fanfic. Like many modern Elsanna fanfics, Elsa and Anna are not sisters.
Café Liégeois contains examples of:
- Adaptation Personality Change: Unlike in canon, Kristoff doesn't like reindeer.
- Adaptational Species Change: Sven and Maximus are both dogs instead of a reindeer and a horse.
- Affectionate Nickname: Anna has used "Elsie" for Elsa.
- Alternate Universe: Anna believes that Elsa's visions are Elsa seeing herself in different universes.
- Alternate Universe Fic: The fic from the film. It's set in modern times, Elsa and Anna are unrelated, and Elsa is blind.
- Brother–Sister Incest: There's no sibling incest in the story itself, but Elsa does mention in some of her visions she and Anna are sisters in a relationship.
- The Cameo: Most of the minor characters are Disney Princess characters.
- Closet Key: Anna thought she was straight until she met Elsa.
- Cultural Translation: The story takes place in America, not either the fictional country of Arendelle or Norway (which is what Arendelle is based on). Anna is Norwegian-American at least, and the area they live in is called "Arendelle".
- Demoted to Extra: Hans only gets referenced in past tense. Kristoff doesn't appear much either.
- Distant Finale: Chapter 8 takes place years later, once Elsa and Anna are already married.
- The Gadfly: Elsa's mother Lilly teases Anna a lot.
- High School AU: "College AU" actually, though little time is actually focused on schooling. Anna is an art major while Elsa is an architect major. This fanfic actually helped popularize the
fanon that Elsa would be an architect major. - The Klutz: Anna is very klutzy. This is part of the reason she is a Lethal Chef.
- Lethal Chef: Anna is absolutely horrible at cooking, which makes her becoming a barista all the more unusual. She does her job well nevertheless.
- Love at First Sight: Anna falls for Elsa the moment Elsa walks through the cafe's door.
- Love Confession: Subverted. Anna's friends believe that Elsa and Anna had a dramatic love confession, but it didn't happen like that.
- Magic Realism: The story seems like a typical modern, no-magic AU until it's revealed that Elsa's eyes are made of ice and that she can see into other universes.
- Meet Cute: Anna and Elsa meet at the cafe the former works at. Their first actual conversation is borderline Cringe Comedy but is still awkwardly cute.
- Modern AU Fic: Café Liégeois is set in the 2010s instead of the 1840s.
- Mythology Gag:
- Certain lines are references to lines from the first film.
- One of Elsa's visions was of the canon Frozen universe.
- No Social Skills: Elsa doesn't have the best social skills . It causes trouble between her and Anna.
- Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Most of the pop culture references that Anna make fly past Elsa.
- Sci-Fi Ghetto: An in-series example. Elsa has a poor view on science-fiction.
- Shout-Out: Elsa and Anna adopt Dug from Up in chapter 8.
- Slash Fic: Of the Elsa/Anna pairing. Anna meets Elsa at her job and begins dating her soon afterwards.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Both Anna's and Elsa's (it's never said which are the parents from Frozen) are alive.
- Take That!:
- Anna likes The Twilight Saga, but Elsa believes it's garbage.
- A playful one, bordering on Self-Deprecation, is Elsa's dislike of Disney for their Disneyfication of classical literature. Similarly, Anna disagrees with her.
- The Tease: Anna likes to tease her girlfriend Elsa.
- Unrelated in the Adaptation: Elsa and Anna are not sisters, which means the fanfic has no sibling incest.
- Violently Protective Girlfriend: According to Elsa, Anna once punched a man with an onion into a shopping cart for staring at Elsa at the grocery store. This somehow caused an incident that required three fire trucks, two ambulances, and the police needing to be called.
- Wham Episode: Chapter 5 has Elsa revealing what her eyes look like and that she can see into other universes.
