Butterfly Effect
is a Miraculous Ladybug fanfic written by ShadowmanePX41 and published on Archive of Our Own. Sometime after Season 3, Bunnyx sees a future in which Ladybug and Chat Noir lose against an akuma army and become akumatized themselves, allowing Hawk Moth to win. To prevent this, she visits the restored Order of the Guardians, who agree that it's time to distribute more miraculouses from the Miracle Box. Which ones? All of them.
Thus, everyone in Miss Bustier's class who hasn't already received a miraculous (minus Lila) gets secretly invited to train in their temple in Tibet at night, becoming a group called the Last Chance that aids Ladybug and Chat Noir when they most need help.
Butterfly Effect has examples of:
- Benevolent Conspiracy: The Order goes behind Ladybug's back to hand out the Miracle Box's miraculouses, since she has thus far been very possessive of them by only handing them out when she deems necessary and requiring their return. This results in, ironically, two-thirds of Marinette's class keeping the same secret from her and her previously chosen heroes that they were keeping from them before Miracle Queen revealed their identities.
- Bruce Wayne Held Hostage: Certainly not new to the series, but taken to a whole new level when Marinette is amoked into the Huli Jing, preventing Ladybug from attending the fight.
- Character Development: Sabrina, upon seeing what the events of Miracle Queen, immediately disavows Chloe and tries to make up with the rest of the class. They accept her with loving arms, but she still doubts whether she's worthy, of them or of her miraculous.
- Character Exaggeration: Takes the train of Chloe's backsliding from Miracle Queen all the way to the end, finishing with her being arrested and her parents disavowing her.
- Emotion Eater: The akuma Angel gains power by performing positive deeds.
- Enemy Without: For their first real test of the miraculous holders' powers, the Order makes each of the twelve of them face off against a replica of their akumatized form (with Kagami and Sabrina fighting only Oni Chan and Miraculer, respectively).
- Hand Wave: The restored Order somehow has a copy of the Miracle Box that can take the miraculouses out of it, without Ladybug even knowing. Also, the excuse that they give their students to use on their families is a letter inviting them for "Kung Fu training", which is never scrutinized or turned down in any way.
- Imagination-Based Superpower: Imagineer's power. Unlike many examples, it's not limited in any way, and it marks Last Chance's first public appearance as nearly half of them are needed to take her down.
- Put on a Bus: After being akumatized one last time, Chloe is arrested for siding with Hawk Moth and for manipulating her father and is never seen again.
- Sailor Earth: Technically, none of the miraculouses or their wielders are Original Characters, but their transformed personas, including their signature tool and their power, are all new.
- Sugar Bowl: Imaginia, the world Rose's little sister Susie dreamt of and then tried to make reality after being akumatized into Imagineer.
- Super-Strength: The Ox Miraculous is noted to be the physically strongest one.
- The Unmasking: Hawk Moth pieces together Ladybug's identity when an amok of Marinette nearly destroys town without Ladybug arriving until after the amok is defeated, alongside some voice/appearance analysis after-the-fact. Then he reveals it on the morning news to all of Paris.
