Go To

After narrowly surviving her near-death experience at Midway, Eagle Union aircraft carrier Yorktown begins her road to recovery. However, things are not as simple as she believes. She has trouble socializing with those closest to her, and her abilities have been severely diminished since that fated battle. She has come to believe that it's time for her to retire from the war effort.

There is a saying: "Recovery is a process. It takes time. It takes patience. It takes everything you've got." And one Commander is going to show her that she still has work to do.

This fanfic contains the following tropes:

  • Heroic BSoD: Yorktown is affected by one of these, and for good reason; she narrowly survived the events of Midway. This entire story centers around her letting go of that traumatic situation and regaining her courage.
  • Masquerade Ball: Royal Navy invites everyone to a ball. The Commander goes there with Yorktown to have her relax.
  • My Greatest Failure: The Commander feels he's at fault for the death of a midshipman despite all blame falling on the Sirens who attacked them.
  • Necktie Leash:
    • Defied. The Commander wears a clip-on tie just in case someone grabs it, which Hammann tries to do.
    • Played straight in the final chapter, to Yorktown's amusement.
Commander: Sometimes you've got to buck tradition.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Hammann walks into Yorktown's room and finds her and the Commander sleeping side by side.
  • Sexy Secretary: Illustrious and Yorktown have secretary positions, and it would be a lie to say that they aren't gorgeous.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Yorktown arrives at the Royal Navy ball wearing a beautiful dress.
  • Shipper on Deck: Hornet is more than happy to support a relationship between her eldest sister and the Commander.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Unlike her game and real-life counterparts, Yorktown actually survives her fated battle at Midway.
