Brazilian Batman
is a Batman fanfiction.
As the name suggests, the fanfic rewrites the Batman mythos, motifs and themes to Rio de Janeiro, and also blending them into Brazilian culture.
It also has a sequel, called Brazilian Superman.
Brazilian Batman provides examples of:
- The '80s: The prologue begins in 1984, when Bruno accidentaly finds the batcave and then in 1986 when his parents are murdered.
- Adaptational Name Change: Inevitable, really though the fic does try to keep the names similar.
- The Waynes become the Vale. Thomas, Martha, Bruce and Alfred are renamed Tomás, Mônica, Bruno and Alfredo.
- Harvey Dent becomes Haroldo Dias.
- James Gordon becomes Jaime Gonçalves.
- Cops And Robbers: In the prologue, Bruno is playing with friends in the mansion's garden playing this game, with the cops being BOTEnote .
- Dirty Communists: Bruno infiltrates a communist guerrilla in Colombia who fund themselves through the drug trade to try to learn how organized criminals think and behave.
- Race Lift: James Gordon was a white man but his counterpart, Jaime Gonçalves, is a mulato.
- Setting Update: Gotham City is replaced with Rio de Janeiro.
- Soccer-Hating Americans: Played with. Due to the fic being transferred to Brazil, soccer is very well liked. The Vale are flamenguistasnote and they go to watch a soccer match to try to make Bruno forget his phobia over bats.
- Wretched Hive: Rio de Janeiro, to the point that a family is robbed and murdered in a public bus. Sadly very much Truth in Television.
