Bluefur's Choice
(also available on Fanfiction Dot Net), by TheQu1etOne, is a Warriors fanfic based off of the Super Edition Bluestar's Prophecy.
Just before giving up her litter, Bluefur changes her mind and decides to raise them on her own. After Thistleclaw becomes leader, Bluefur realizes that her choice wasn't the best for ThunderClan.
Bluefur's Choice is an AU fic where Bluestar didn't give her kits to Greypool. It explores what could have happened.
This fanfic provides examples of:
- Adaptation Name Change: Mosskit survived into adulthood and was named "Mosstail".
- Alternate Universe Fic: Bluefur didn't give her children up for adoption. She's passed over as deputy and, instead, Thistleclaw eventually becomes leader.
- Anyone Can Die: Many cats are given early Deaths By Adaptation or are outright Adapted Out by never being born.
- Dark Fic: There's never-ending bloodshed between the Clans as they fight for territory.
- Death by Adaptation:
- Sandstorm is the only surviving kit of her generation. The other kits, including Ravenpaw and Graystripe, died.
- When Yellowfang enters ThunderClan territory, Thistlestar and Darkstripe kill her.
- Disappeared Dad:
- The biological father of Bluefur's kits Oakheart died of injuries received in a fight with ThunderClan. Months later, their adopted father Thrushpelt died of injuries received in a fight with ShadowClan.
- In the same battle that killed Thrushpelt, Bluefur's father Stormtail is killed.
- For Want Of A Nail: Bluefur decides to keep her kits, leading to Thistleclaw to become deputy.
- Generation Xerox: Subverted. Cats comment that Mosstail and Runningwind's relationship reminds them of Bluefur and Thrushpelt's, however the latter were never mates. Thrushpelt's feelings were unrequited but he still helped raise Bluefur's kits.
- Mature Animal Story: The story is a War Fic starring cats. It also covers moral issues.
- Not His Sled:
- Bluefur meets Rusty and chases him off their territory, telling him to never return.
- Thistlestar and Darkstripe come across a rogue Yellowfang after Spottedleaf dies. They then promptly kill her in fear she's an enemy spy.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Because Bluefur kept her kits, Mosskit didn't die while walking to RiverClan.
- War Fic: The Clans are at war with one another.
