- Big Brother Instinct: Don, as he desperately searches for Charlie when the younger Eppes is abducted and travels to different parts of the country before he is able to find him.
- Call-Back: To season 3 and 4 episodes, as Don is working to make sure his relationship with Robin works again after they get back together and was briefly concerned about her and Liz, another ex-girlfriend, interact but they seem to get along fine.
- Distressed Dude: Charlie gets kidnapped by Ryan Morgan, the man Don and his team are investigating and has to deal with the physical and mental consequences after he is rescued by his older brother.
- Heroic B So D: Charlie gets through a big one, as he already dealing with finding a photo of Amita kissing another man, but also his injuries from his kidnapping and Don has to really work to get through to Charlie back from the brink.
- Original Character: Ryan Morgan, the man who kills several people and abducts Charlie.
