Banding Together contains examples of the following tropes (SPOILERS UNMARKED):

  • The Ace: Kirby and The Doom Slayer are the most badass of the bunch, guaranteed to never lose a fight and only being captured after being forced to by the villains.
  • Adaptational Badass: Pac-Man. Yes, Pac-Man. Eats. A. Nuke.
  • Adaptational Heroism: The BGC lack their Anti Heroic traits.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Winter is far more cold and authoritative with Weiss, going so far as deny her a hug when Canon!Winter had no issues hugging Weiss, even instigating their first onscreen hug.
    • Ironwood's is very rude and arrogant, insulting Luigi before the poor guy even had a chance to show off his skill, and delivering a back handed compliment about how, despite how impressive he and the others could be, they still aren’t as good as his army.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Again, the BGC. As a whole they are a bunch of Nice Guys who lack even their Vitriolic Best Buds relationships. The most noticeable example has to be their treatment of Doc, who they openly appreciate and care about, with barely an insult tossed his way.
    • The Doom Slayer is even more dorky than in canon. He’s also a lot more sociable, giving thumbs up and instigating fist bumps.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Ruby is a lesbian trans girl, Blake and Yang are together, and Weiss has a crush on Pyrrha. Those are just the examples from RWBY!
  • Affably Evil:
    • Locus is very professional and courteous.
    • Almost all of the Mooks in this series a amicable doofuses who are prone to goofing off.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Sienna's death is heartbreaking.
  • All-Loving Hero: Pyrrha’s kindness is so great, after disfiguring Cinder (she had no idea tricking her into getting exposed to Ruby's silver eyes would do that, and Cinder was condemning innocent souls to Hell) she apologizes.
  • And I Must Scream: The Dark Lord has Cinder and Sigma sacrifice hundreds of innocents to him, damning their souls to eternal torment. Fortunately, Sigma being sucked into the Hell Portal he created not only stops the demonic invasion, it also freed said damned souls.
  • Anti-Hero:
    • The Doom Slayer will kill anyone assisting The Dark Lord, even if they’re unarmed and surrendering.
    • Ozpin didn’t tell Ruby and Pyrrha what her eyes would do to Cinder, leaving them horrified and angry he wasn’t honest about how the Silver Eyes would affect Cinder.
  • Anti-Villain: Sienna Khan, who, despite being a misanthropic Omnicidal Maniac, is a broken woman driven to nihilistic rage by the death of her wife and daughter.
  • Arch-Enemy:
    • Locus to Blake. The latter latches onto him because he reminds her of how she used to be in the White Fang, Locus feels mutual after learning Blake "abandoned" the White Fang and her "duty as a soldier".
    • Cinder grows a seething hatred of Pyrrha after the latter tricked the former into a trap that got her hit by Ruby's Silver Eyes, resulting in her disfigurement. Despite Pyrrha not knowing this would happen, even going so far as to apologize to Cinder, she still wants to make her suffer.
    • Of course, The Joker to Batman. He even talks about how they’re one of the most recognizable and unique examples of this trope, insulting Salem and Ozpin's war, calling it a messy divorce.
  • Asshole Victim: Quite a few. The bandits tormenting Luigi who get annihilated by Kirby, the White Fang members killed by Bane and Bowser, and the Space Pirates who were maimed by The Creeper, to name some.
  • Ax-Crazy: Cinder, after getting disfigured by Ruby due to a trap set by Pyrrha, completely loses it and becomes a vicious animal determined to make the latter suffer to the fullest.
  • Battle Couple: Vanessa Kimball and Hippolyta have lead their respective armies into battle while holding hands.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: The BGC, specifically Sarge, Simmons, Grif, and Tucker, are a bunch of idiots who get the crap kicked out of them in most fights. Don’t let this fool you, they’ve killed most of main antagonists of this series, so far.
  • Big Bad: The stories usually have an antagonist of their own, but the main villain of the series is Vandal Savage.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Despite their idiocy, Sarge, Simmons, Grif, and Tucker seem to be absolute masters of this. From savings others or each other, most notably when Grif shot Sienna dead to save Tucker.
    • When The Joker activates a Nuke on an island a group of heroes are on, no one knows what to do. When all hope seemed lost, Pac-Man ate it using his Final Smash.
  • Butt-Monkey: Grif is somehow even more unlucky then canon despite Sarge treating him a lot better. One of the key factors is him getting Groin Attacks by strong women he unintentionally pisses off.
  • Character Catchphrase:
    • "Fuckberries" for Tucker, usually said when caught in a bad situation.
    • "You just got Simmonsized" for Simmons, always said before he takes out a bad guy.
    • Grif comes up with "You just got Grifed!”. Unlike Simmons, he says this after he takes out a villain.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Doesn’t even begin to describe The Creeper.
  • Cool Old Guy: E. Gadd is an absolute badass who makes awesome inventions. He talked back to Artemis and got away with it!
  • Deadpan Snarker: Batman, especially when dealing with the idiocy of the BGC.
  • Death by Adaptation: Ilia and Locus are just two examples.
  • Faux Affably Evil:
    • Moneybags is as snide and condescending, as ever.
    • Adam tries to paint himself as a freedom fighter, but he’s the same sadistic, abusive psycho he was in canon.
    • Felix chats with Team RWBY in a really laid back and fun way, all while subjecting then them to Break Them by Talking.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Darkseid, The Dark Lord, and an unknown third party are the reason the merging happened, and Vandal is serving them out of self preservation.
  • Hate Sink: Felix, Felix, Felix. He somehow is even more vile and loathsome then in canon, having none of his Laughably Evil qualities, leaving only a smug, spiteful, sadistic psychopath who will gladly toss away a paycheck so he can hurt people For the Evulz.
  • It's All About Me: Vandal Savage is loyal to Darkseid, but only because the latter can permanently kill him and will only spare him if he prepares the DC Universe for his and his cohorts arrival.
  • Jerkass:
    • Andrew D. Kaboom. Like in canon, he’s a hostile jackass who, in a effort to distract Sienna Khan, insulted her dead wife and daughter, then pinned it on Grif. This resulted in Grif, Sarge, Simmons, and Tucker getting the shit kicked out of them, with Grif getting another round of Groin Attacks.
    • Felix might actually be worse. Not only are his insults much more spiteful and malicious, he’s transphobic towards Ruby, and flat out tries to pull a Break Them by Talking on Team RWBY.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Sarge is the only member of the BGC not turned into a straight Nice Guy after being given Adaptational Nice Guy. That said, he’s still far more open and considerate. For example, the times he’s insulted Grif can be counted on one hand (Grif is usually the instigator of some of those insults), and he didn’t want Simmons to get involved with the events of Menagerie because he didn’t want to interrupt his book club (as stupid as it was for him to do that).
    • Batman is cold, snarky, and condescending, but his heart and care for his friends is still present.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Andy insulting Sienna Khan’s deceased Wife and Daughter. Then he pinned it in Grif resulting in him, Sarge, Simmons, and Tucker getting their ass kicked, once again.
    • Felix gives a vicious "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Team RWBY, blaming Yang for her mothers leaving her, Slut-Shaming Blake for running off with an abusive older man, telling Weiss she’s the reason her family is a mess, and being transphobic to Ruby, going as far as to dead name her.
  • Not So Stoic:
    • Saber breaks down in tears when he sees he failed to save Sienna's wife and daughter.
    • Sienna herself also breaks down while cradling their bodies, and is prone to snapping whenever they’re brought up.
    • Locus suffers a Villainous Breakdown after Blake tears down his attempts to prove they’re not that different.
  • The Stoic: Batman, of course. He keeps his cool even in the most tense situations.
  • Tranquil Fury: Locus, after she shakes off his open anger, but is still suffering a Villainous Breakdown.
Locus: I'm going to kill you, now.
