Fanfic / Babysitter from Heaven

Babysitter from Heaven is a The Loud House fic written by Weavillain.

Lori Loud has had a good day so far: she's aced two tests and won a gift card in a fundraiser. When she gets back home with her siblings from school, she finds out Lynn Sr. has been invited to the Duke Hill Country Club that night by his boss. He's allowed to bring family along, but only those 13 and older, so that means Lori, Leni, Luna, Luan, and Lynn Jr. are coming along with him and Rita, while he's hired a babysitter to watch over Lincoln and his younger sisters. Unfortunately for Lori, said babysitter is the person she'd least expected to babysit her siblings: Carol Pingrey.

Over the course of the story, while Carol ends up bonding with the remaining siblings, Lori's festering hatred and jealousy of Carol gradually begins to boil. Can Lori keep her feelings towards Carol in check to have a peaceful night at the club?

This fic received an AU sequel, Out of the Way, which centers on a depressed Lori after her actions in the previous fic.

Babysitter from Heaven and its sequel contain examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Lynn Sr. often can't pronounce Carol's last name, and has to be reminded.
  • Ascended Extra: Carol Pingrey. Keep in mind the first of the two fics was written before "Selfie Improvement" aired.
  • Big "NO!": Lori lets out a long one (which Lisa clocks in at 3 minutes and 32 seconds long) when she finds out Carol will be the babysitter.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: Chapters 8 and 9. Don't even get started on Out of the Way.
  • Condescending Compassion: Lori 'consoles' Lincoln about not being able to go to the country club by telling him he only has to wait two "years" until he's old enough.
  • Continuity Nod: When introducing her rules to Lincoln and his younger sisters, Carol notes how she's never met most of them while winking at Lincoln, nodding to how they'd previously interacted during the events of "Picture Perfect".
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Subverted by Lori in Out of the Way, who gets in a horrific accident with Vanzilla with her bones jutting out her body, but doesn't die.
  • Dark Fic: Out of the Way.
  • Dartboard of Hate: To try and distract Lori from the whole "Carol" situation, Lynn suggests she use a punching bag to work out her frustrations. She starts picturing the bag as Carol and, not only does it only make her angrier but she hits the thing hard enough to knock it out of the hook holding it in place for it to swing back around and give her a concussion.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Lori crosses this in Out of the Way, believing that her attack on Carol has made Lincoln realize that he doesn't need her.
    • It eventually reaches the point where, not only does she decide to give up on her education, but also leaving Bobby a voicemail, breaking up with him.
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted. The fic ends with Lincoln not speaking to Lori over what she did. The AU sequel pushes this further as he's still mad at her weeks after, at which point it's deconstructed when his friends and family are getting fed up of him holding onto the anger for so long despite how badly it's affecting Lori.
  • Family of Choice: Lincoln decides after getting to know Carol to make her his honorary big sister... which does not make Lori happy when she finds out.
  • Foil: Carol and Lori are pretty much polar opposites when it comes to babysitting styles.
  • Freudian Excuse: Lori treats her younger siblings the way she does, because she thinks being the eldest and head sibling is all she has to make her special. Her greatest fear is her siblings no longer needing her, which as they grow older, 'will' happen one day. Then the sequel shows that she believes her fears are coming true.
    • Why is Carol such an amazing babysitter? She's channeling all the love and care she was going to give her baby brother before he passed away into her charges.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Lori becomes this in Out of the Way; due to her deep feelings of self-loathing, she feels unworthy of Bobby's affection and thinks that she's only holding him back. This results in her breaking up with him in Chapter 3.
  • Internal Reveal: Chapter 7 of Out of the Way has Lincoln learn about Lori breaking up with Bobby.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Lori teases her six youngest siblings about them not being able to go to the country club, only to find out that the one babysitting them while she's away is Carol Pingrey.
    • The younger siblings feel left out when the older members of the family get to go to the country club. However, the older Louds have a lousy time, while the younger ones, due to Carol being their babysitter, have a great time with the best babysitter they've ever had.
  • Misspelling Out Loud: Leni tells Lori that Carl is "perfect" for the job and then spells it as "P-U-R-F-I-K-T."
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Lincoln refusing to forgive Lori for what she did no matter how apologetic she is, is causing everyone to start to resent him with how sick they are he won't let it go.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Downplayed, as she doesn't die. However, Lincoln doesn't take very well the fact that he didn't reconcile with Lori before her car accident in Out of the Way.
  • Point of Divergence: Out of the Way starts during Babysitter from Heaven's last chapter, and two key linchpins occur: Lori being more down on herself over how she was acting towards Carol, and (this being the more powerful one) Carol being angry with Lori and outright rejecting her apology.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Luna does this to Lori to get her to have fun at the club. Apparently, Luna taught this technique to Lynn years ago, and deems the act undignified at the age of 15.
  • Sleep Cute: Lincoln and Carol are napping on the couch when a livid Lori arrives home after stealing Vanzilla.
  • Successful Sibling Syndrome: Lori believes that all of her younger siblings are more special than her, and believes she's nothing compared to them. So she clings to being the eldest.
  • Take That!: Towards Soil and Trouble's depiction of Lisa during Lincoln's conversation with Lisa in Out of the Way. The nanite brain modification idea is mentioned, before being tossed aside as too risky. In said fic, Lisa is willing to do such a dangerous procedure to Lana without thinking of the potentially lethal consequences.
  • Unknown Rival: Carol had no idea that Lori hated her, or at least not to the degree that she does.
