Almost Psycho Chuck Chicken is a series stories made by Lightning The Pikachu (AKA AHorseThatQuacks) on Archive Of Our Own. It's a crossover of Almost Naked Animals, The Day My Butt Went Psycho!, Numb Chucks, and Space Chickens In Space. The four main characters of each series (except Dilweed, who is replaced by Buford) go on adventures together. Hilarity and drama ensues.

Almost Psycho Chuck Chicken Provides Examples Of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Both Buford and Butternut. Both are still not very nice, but their soft sides are shown more in this story and both seem to care more for each other deep down.
    • Glargg is just as bossy as in the show, but here he realizes he cares for Chuck and his siblings and becomes more affectionate towards them.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Chuck gets his head feathers ruffled by Glargg affectionately.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Howie refers to Buford as "Bufy" when he worries about him.
  • Age Lift: Chuck is stated to be a preteen in his show, and Zack is stated to be twelve in the original books, however, the author aged them up into young teenagers, this choice was made so it wouldn't be too odd to have them hang out with Buford and Howie, two supposed adults.
  • Big "NO!": Howie yells "No!" when the dragon carries Buford away.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Zack and Buford yell "What?!" when Chuck says he wants to find his father, despite the two knowing his dad doesn't care about him.
  • Broken Pedestal: Chuck sees Kentucky Cluck as a hero he admires and later a father figure, but he realizes how selfish he is.
  • Cassandra Truth: Chuck doesn't believe his friends when they say Kentucky doesn't love him, he is distraught to find out the truth for himself.
  • Cool Old Lady: Butternut knows Kung Fu, just like Dilweed and Fungus.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: The other boys tell Chuck that Kentucky Cluck abandoned Chuck because he didn't want him to get hurt, Chuck falls for this.
  • Debating Names: The characters debate what names they should call their group of four. Chuck suggests "Chuck and Chums" Buford suggests "Buford and the Buffoons".
  • Disappeared Dad: Chuck's dad, Kentucky Cluck decides to abandon him due to thinking he'd hinder his work.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Buford doesn't like being called "Bufy" by his grandmother and friends.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Buford admits he may be mean, but he doesn't want to crush Chuck by telling him his dad abandoned him for selfish reasons.
  • Fanboy: Chuck is this for the Hated Six from the author's other series The Hater Good
  • Furry Reminder: Buford bleats when he laughs, being a sheep.
  • Ghost Train: The gang is trapped in a train that never stops moving, forcing the gang to figure out why.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Howie calls the dragon lady weird when he is very goofy.
    • Buford insults his grandmother, but scolds Chuck for doing the same thing.
  • In-Series Nickname: Buford calls Chuck "Chucklehead".
  • It's All My Fault: Chuck blames himself for his siblings going missing because they ran off to look for him.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Buford is just as cranky as in the show, but cares about his friends deep down despite denying it.
    • Glargg is as strict as ever, but this time he's doing it to protect Chuck.
  • Like a Son to Me: The narration notes Glargg was treating Chuck like a son, and he feels that way about his siblings too.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Kentucky Cluck reveals to be a long lost relative of Chuck, revealing they have the same red egg shaped birth mark.
  • Lying to Protect Your Feelings: The others lie to Chuck that Kentucky abandoned him out of fear of him getting injured. Buford comes up with this since he knows it would make him distraught. This backfires when Chuck wants to find him anyway.
  • Malicious Misnaming: Chuck calls Buford "Dooford".
  • Mama Bear: Butternut comes to rescue Buford and his friends after they were captured by a dragon.
  • Manchild: Howie is stated to be the eldest of the main four, being in his early twenties, despite being the most immature, with an interest in silly movies and often misses the point.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Chuck feels horrible for not believing his friends.
  • Never Mess with Granny: Butternut defeats the dragon when she is about to destroy Buford and his friends.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When the other guys lied to Chuck about his dad abandoning him out of selflessness, all Chuck wants to do is find him.
  • No Name Given: The dragon is not named in the story, partially due to the author not knowing what to call her.
  • Parental Abandonment:
    • Buford was abandoned by his parents to be cared for by his grandma, Butternut.
    • Kentucky Cluck wants to abandon Chuck due to thinking a child would get in the way of his job.
  • Parental Substitute: Glargg acts harsh yet caring towards Chuck, Finley, and Starley. Zonk mockingly calls Chuck "Glargg Jr."
  • Potty Emergency: Howie briefly has to go to the bathroom and panics due to being trapped on a train, which he doesn't know has bathrooms.
  • Quaking with Fear: Chuck briefly trembles when he's trapped on the train.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Like how one of episode of the show implied, Buford was abandoned by his parents, leaving Butternut to raise him.
  • Right Behind Me: Buford rants about his grandmother, Butternut, not realizing she's behind him. The others try to warn him but it's too late.
  • Running Away to Cry: When Kentucky says he doesn't want Chuck to travel with him, Chuck runs away crying.
  • Shout-Out: To Banana Splits and Sausage Party (due to the shapes of Howie, Buford, and Chuck's bodies as one fan of the three pointed out once) when Howie was suggesting names for their teams.
  • Sleep Cute: The four main characters sleep together on the train.
  • Smelly Skunk: Deuce is revealed to have turned into a skunk before Zack reunites with him, but he's content to still smell bad.
