Months have passed since the Night Howler incident and peace seems to have returned to Zootopia. But now someone is flooding the streets with a powerful new narcotic and to get to the bottom of it, Nick and Judy will need to enlist the help of some less than savory characters from Nick's past. Are they in over their heads or will they find out just how deep this rabbit hole goes?

Ain't No Thing Like Me is a Crossover Fanfic written by Finmonster in 2016, serving as a Continuation Fic for Zootopia, while at the same time crossing over with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and more. The Fic is ongoing and can be found on Fanfiction.net here.

Ain't No Thing Like Me contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • Rocket's name is changed from Rocket Raccoon to Rocket O'Coon.
    • Howard the Duck is now called Howard Duckfield.
    • Bebop and Rocksteady are called Bertrand Bopper and Rocky Steadherd, respectively.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Rocket and Groot seem to be complete strangers to each other in this story while they were close friends even before joining the Guardians in the film.
  • All Bikers are Hells Angels: Rocky Steadherd is from the Rawhead Biker Gang.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Patricia Packider, daughter of a company's vice-president, and biker Rocky Steadherd. Lampshaded by Howard Duckfield.
  • Alliterative Name: Bertrand Booper, and Patricia and Potamus Packheard.
  • Anti-Hero: Rocket is helping Judy and Nick in stopping those behind the Primal case, but he's a rather vulgar, crude, and aggressive fellow who's more than happy to exploit or ignore the law to get things done.
  • Berserk Button: Rocket doesn't like being electrocuted. When Judy tasers him in a fight, he nearly strangles her.
  • Butch Lesbian: April, June Hopps' girlfriend, is a minor case of this.
  • By-the-Book Cop: Judy is one when it comes to upholding the law. Since the Primal case progressively requires that they break or go against the laws they try to uphold, it causes her a lot of distress.
  • Continuation Fic: The story picks up soon after the events of the first Zootopia movie.
  • Crossover: Apart from the basic premise, we also meet this story's versions of Bebop and Rocksteady from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, a smoking camel called Joe, and Wally Walrus.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Munroe Potamus, the CEO of Jakes Biopharma, the largest pharmaceutical company in Zootopia.
  • Cowboy Cop: More like Cowboy Detective in the case of Howard Duckfield. Nick is willing to pay him to show them the hideout of Duke Weaselton, citing to Judy that by-the-book doesn't always work.
  • Curse Cut Short: Duke Weaselton tries escaping from his apartment while Nick, Judy and Rocket are distracted, telling them that he's "making his escape while you all stand around measuring your-". He then shuts up when the mysterious gunner shows up, only saying, "Oh no," before he gets killed.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Patricia Packider's father hired Howard Duckfield to keep tabs on his daughter and her boyfriend Rocky Steadherd, who he doesn't like for being a biker gangster, and wanted Howard to catch Rocky doing something incriminating. It was on one of those rounds that he secured photos of Rocky's Primal-induced punch-up with the ZPD.
  • The Dreaded: Rocket has a very feared reputation in Zootopia. Hearing that he's around causes an immediate Oh, Crap! reaction from Nick.
  • Drugs Are Bad: They certainly are if the drug in question is Primal, a mixture of Night Howlers and Nip.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • A major reason Mr. Big, a notorious crime lord, is helping in solving the Primal case is because he and his men are just as much against the drug as anyone else ever since his cousin died of overdosing on Nip. He's even the one who hired Rocket to find and take out whoever's dealing with it.
    • Rocket replies to Nick saying that he's the type of guy who'd shoot his mother for thirty dollars by denying it- he'd shoot her for 100 dollars, and his mother died over ten years ago, so it wouldn't be murder, just Desecrating the Dead.
  • Evil Cripple: Wally the walrus arms dealer is a wheelchair user.
  • Fantastic Racism: Between mammals and birds, stemming from the war between Zootopia and Avarination (the bird city). Howard has to carry a tranquilizer gun with him when living in Zootopia because of this.
  • Fantasy Gun Control: Played with. Dart guns are relatively easy to acquire, guns that use live ammunition are far more tightly controlled.
  • Feathered Fiend: Pyko, a vulture doctor in Avarination who Howard Duckfield saw experimenting on some poor bird in a back-alley, and who threatened to eat Howard's eyes, forcing him to take shelter in Zootopia. According to the guards at Jakes Biopharma, he works for Munroe Potamus now.
  • Full-Boar Action: Bertrand Bopper, the warthog bodyguard of Patrica Packider's father, and possibly the mysterious gunner who killed Duke Weaselton.
  • Get Out!: Lylla's response to meeting Rocket again.
  • Gilligan Cut: After the shootout at Duke Weaselton's apartment between Nick, Judy, Rocket and the mysterious gunner, Judy says that she can imagine Chief Bogo's smiling face when they report back to him.
Chief Bogo: Does it look like I'm smiling, Officer Hopps?
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: Joe, the camel bouncer outside Wally the walrus' gun shop, is a smoker, and he's quite a shady individual.
  • Great Offscreen War: Between Zootopia and Avarination in the past, which led to a lot of present day racism between birds and mammals.
  • Insistent Terminology: Potamus and Patricia both clarify that the latter is the former's step-daughter.
  • Interspecies Romance:
    • It's heavily implied that Nick is developing feelings for Judy.
    • Rocky Steadherd(rhinoceros) and Patricia Packider(hippopotamus) are currently dating.
    • Same goes for Rocket(raccoon) and Lylla(an otter). Then he slept with her cousin, and she's never forgiven him.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Mr. Big to Judy, as per canon.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: Part of what makes Rocket The Dreaded in Zootopia is that he's a mercenary who's fought in wars and received special training while the cops and other criminals don't have anywhere near the same level of skill and deathly proficiency that he has.
  • Oh, Crap!: Duke Weaselton has this reaction when he ends up face-to-face with a mysterious gunner. Right before the gunner shoots him.
  • O.C. Stand-in: Judy's sister June, who went missing while investigating Jakes' Biopharma factory. Also June's girlfriend April, and Judy's old boyfriend Jackson O'Hare.
  • Rascally Raccoon: A very dark example with Rocket O'Coon, who's a Psycho for Hire.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Rocket has solid red eyes and he's the most dangerous bounty hunter in Zootopia.
  • Red Herring: The story makes it seem like the Big Bad is Potamus Packheard, CEO of BioPharma. It turns out to actually be someone named Mr. Jakes.
  • Rhino Rampage: Rocky Steadherd, a rhinoceros biker, arrested for taking Primal and attacking ZPD officers.
  • Soapbox Sadie: June Hopps, one of Judy's sisters, is a sympathetic social activist for many things- environmentalism, peace activism, and sexual diversity rights- and that's why she went to investigate the Biopharma factory.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: Bertrand Bopper and Rocky Steadherd.
  • Sudden Sequel Death Syndrome: Duke Weaselton, a minor antagonist in the first film, is killed in a shootout with a mysterious gunner just three chapters into the story to highlight the danger posed by the new villain.
  • Title Drop: Rocket, naturally, says "Ain't no thing like me, 'cept me," at the end of Chapter 4.
  • Tranquil Fury: The reason Primal is so dangerous. It induces extreme rage, like Night Howlers, but lets the user retain control of their mind. Rocky Steadherd is living proof of the dangers posed by such a drug user.
  • Wily Walrus: Wally, the arms dealer who Rocket introduces Nick and Judy to.
  • Working with the Ex: Judy and her old boyfriend and army veteran, Jackson O'Hare.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Presumably why the gunner (possibly Bertrand Bopper) killed Duke Weaselton after he gave Rocky Steadherd his bag of Primal.
