When the Hexsquad ended up on Earth, they discovered that even without magic and evil emperors, the land of humans still had its own weirdness to offer.

- Automobiles Are Alien: The Hexsquad find cars to be massive and bizarre creations.
- Conditioned to Accept Horror: Hunter suffered so much at the hands of Belos and Kikimorra that he expects his food to contain poison.
- Deceased Parents Are the Best: Luz still has fond memories of and is still mourning her late father.
- Deliberate Values Dissonance: Gus, because of his dark skin, gets racially profiled by a racist woman. There isn't skin color discrimination in the Boiling Isles, meaning Gus is confused when the woman throws around phrases like "you people."
- Evil Uncle: Belos was this to Hunter, denying him recreation opportunities and making Hunter’s work schedules so strict that Hunter treats waking up on time as a life-or-death situation.
- Mama Bear: Camilla becomes protective of the Hexsquad and is extremely unamused when a racist woman wrongfully accuses Gus of shoplifting just because he looks black.
- Mundane Object Amazement: The Hexsquad are shocked and amazed and the existence of cupholders.
- Open-Minded Parent: Camilla assures Luz that she doesn't mind that she's dating a girl like Amity.
- Politically Incorrect Villain: Gus falls victim to a racist Karen named Karen who accuses Gus of theft just because he looks black.
- Take That!: The racist woman who wrongfully profiles Gus uses people who leak TV episodes early onto the Internet as an example of why life isn't fair.
- Team Mom: Camilla finds herself the de facto mother of half a dozen kids. Despite the workload, she is nothing but nurturing and supportive of them. Hunter, who experienced massive abuse from Belos, is very much appreciative.
- Teens Are Monsters: Luz’s three classmates, Diana, Debbie, and Danelle, thought of her as a weirdo, even after three months when she was supposedly at camp. When the three of them see that Luz made friends with a group of teenagers, they mock both Luz and her friends, saying Luz turns those kids into weirdos like her despite Willow trying to be polite to them.
