Fanfic / A Wreath To Safeguard

Go To

a wreath to safeguard is a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders fanfic by desertmint.

Kujo Holly’s 17-year-old son is abducted and declared missing, the latest in a long string of mysterious global disappearances. She’s not going to let a measly fever stop her from getting him back at any cost. On the other side of the world, two Japanese high school students find themselves on the run from a vampiric madman and his cult of fanatic followers.

a wreath to safeguard provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Holly not only manages to fight off her fever and fully manifest a Stand, but she's the one to defeat Tower of Gray (albeit somewhat by accident) and later extracts the fleshbud from Polnareff.
  • Death by Adaptation: Here Daniel D'Arby has his soul turned into a poker chip by his own Stand upon losing a game of Chō-Han Bakuchi. In canon he merely went mad after being bested at poker.
  • Emotion Control: One of Vespertine's abilities is to emit a scent that induces calmness.
  • Forced Sleep: Another of Vespertine's abilities.
  • Impaled Palm: To Joseph, courtesy of Tower of Gray's needle. Luckily it was his prosthetic hand that was hit.
  • Invisible to Normals: The imposter Captain Tennille is outed when he reacts to the sight of Vespertine; the real Captain Tennille is not a Stand user and thus wouldn't have seen it.
  • Mythology Gag: At one point, Kakyoin imagines Jotaro wearing "an outlandishly tall hat, the brim long enough to poke someone’s eye out", a reference to Oingo's Jotaro disguise in canon.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Holly's canonically nameless Stand is given the name Vespertine here.
  • Sleep Cute: One spirit photo depicts Jotaro having fallen asleep on Kakyoin's shoulder. Holly and co. all agree that it's an adorable sight.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The fic alternates between Kakyoin and Jotaro's journey toward Japan with Holly, Joseph, Avdol and Polnareff's journey toward Cairo.
  • Villainous Rescue: Jotaro is saved from Rubber Soul by an at-the-time villainous Kakyoin. Namely because Rubber Soul tried to kill Jotaro when he's meant to be brought back alive.
