Go To

Yang wakes up from a stay in the hospital, only it isn't Yang. Somehow a stranger from Earth has found herself as a 15 year old Yang on Remnant. How will she use her foreknowledge to shape the future of the world she now finds herself on?

A RWBY fanfic written by The TO, the story can be found here.

Spoilers past chapter 3 are marked.

Contains examples of:

  • The Ace: "Yang" is pretty much this with her excellent academic performance, fighting prowess, and two Semblances.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Despite sharing certain physical aesthetics, both Raven Branwen and Adam Taurus have no connection with each other in the canon series. Here, Adam notices the physical comparisons between "Yang" and Raven while stating that he knows the latter when living in Mistral. Much to "Yang's" surprise, she privately lampshades this as a plot twist.
  • Adaptational Badass: In regards to the original, "Yang" has proven to be a greater fighter with her intelligence, weapon upgrades, and having two Semblances.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Justified, since Jessica was already a college graduate with experience in the Law field before reincarnating in Yang Xiao Long. Thus, "Yang" is much more intelligent compare to her canon counterpart where she can strategize more in fights and get good grades in Signal academy.
  • Adaptational Personality Change:
    • As a result of Jessica being reincarnated in the body of Yang Xiao Long, "Yang" is notably less Hot-Blooded and more of a Mellow Fellow, is academically smart enough to excel in her classes compare to the original's Book Dumb behavior and fights in a methodical manner than the original's usual Attack! Attack! Attack! Charged Attack/Limit Break strategy. Disturbingly, she also have no problem killing the corrupted Huntsman in chapter 7, especially since this is the first time she had killed a person.
    • Also, since the fic takes place two years before the start of the series, Adam is portrayed in his volume 1&2 personality.
  • Bad Powers, Bad People: The corrupted Huntsman that "Yang" faces in chapter 7 has a Semblance that allows him to turn things fragile. "Yang" even calls Eisen sick for having such an ability.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How Jessica died in the first place. As "Yang", she fought against a dangerous corrupt Huntsman in order to protect the Faunus.
  • Bookworm: What Jessica was in her original life, and it carries on into "Yang".
  • Cool Big Sis: Make no mistake, "Yang" is still the ever caring older sister, but is less doting and protective on Ruby to allow the latter to grow as an individual.
  • Death of Personality: The original Yang died from being brain dead in a coma with the current "Yang" being the main one in control of the body. In chapter 11 however, it's implied that the original is starting to resurface after "Yang" is experiencing memory flashes.
  • Demoted to Extra: Ruby doesn't usually show up as often in the fic compare to her status as The Protagonist in the canon series.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Granted, Jessica only watched the series up to volume 5 since that was all it was available the time before she died, so there are a couple of instances where she won't be able to predict what happens next.
  • Genius Bruiser: Not only is "Yang" a capable fighter, but she's capable of handling herself in the political fieldnote , and has the best grades in Signal Academy.note
  • Important Haircut: Overlaps with Traumatic Haircut, as "Yang's" hair was cut in order to treat the head injury, and she wore her hair short since then.
  • Ironic Name: The corrupted huntsman that "Yang" killed is called Eisen, meaning iron in German, which makes it ironic for his Semblance to make things fragile.
  • Named by the Adaptation: The White Fang Lieutenant is known as Zumeya.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Played for Laughs at first when Ruby jokes about "Yang" studying for several hours and not setting the house on fire for making coffee until she accidentally commented about her head injury doing some good.
  • Original Character: Plenty of them.
    • Aster Taurus, the younger brother of Adam.
  • Secret-Keeper: Qrow learns early on of "Yang"'s knowledge of the canon series, and at the beginning barely holds himself from something rash because of the near-miraculous circumstances of her return. "Yang" opens herself to him, convincing him to stay his hand, though he's still furious at having Yang's cure yanked away from him, Taiyang and Ruby.
  • Spotting the Thread:
    • Not really surprising consider how close they are, but Ruby does notice the change of personality in "Yang".
Ruby: "You're a lot calmer, almost cold at times, especially when it comes to fights. I've seen a couple of your spars and you don't smile or laugh like you used to. You don't even get mad anymore. Then there are good things, like you making cookies just like mom did, and that you don't treat me like I'm made of glass anymore. You seem to always know what to say when I'm sad or when I'm having trouble with something."
    • In "Yang's" confrontation with the gang leader who's trying to kick the Faunus refugees out, he shows an official document stating that he's within the rights to claim the property of which the Faunus currently occupies on. Yang manages to look it over after snatching it and correctly deduce that it's a fake since not only that the document was neither a will or a contract (since official documents have to be either of those in special cases) and has only two signatures from the Vale council members (it needs four signatures), but it was entirely handwritten with many words that were misspelled on the first page alone.
  • Strong and Skilled: The original Yang was already a skilled fighter, along with her being a powerhouse, but "Yang" fits this even more with her intelligence, constant work ethic, and two Semblances.
  • Time Stands Still: How "Yang's" second Semblance works, as it allows her to freeze time for a couple of seconds.
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: The mysterious Izanami, the entity who recruited Jessica to step into Yang's shoes. Who is, in fact, the sentience of the Relic of Destruction.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Justified with "Yang", since she's already an adult before being reincarnated in the original.
