Fan Nickname / Honkai Impact 3rd

Go To

Alternate nicknames coined by Honkai fans to concepts related to the game.

For the memes, see this page, although some examples may overlap given that Fan Nickname is a sub-trope of Memetic Mutation.

The Game

  • "Depression Impact", "Depression Impact 3rd", "Depression: The Game" - The storylines of Honkai Impact 3rd tend to have dark and serious tones, especially in the later years. Alongside the in-game world dealing with the "Honkai" phenomenon, several characters have died, had tragic backstories, or had conflicts with each other. Thus, the lore-minded players within the gacha game communities remember this game for its "depressing" lore.

General Gameplay Mechanics

  • The Stigmata (equippable items that provide stat increments, passive effects or Set Bonus) are mostly called by the shorthands "Stig" or "Stigs".

General Character Trends

  • It's common to refer to the Valkyries' battlesuits using acronyms: For example, there's "HoV", "HoR", "HoT" and "HoS" respectively for Herrscher of the Void, Herrscher of Reason, Herrscher of Thunder, and Herrscher of Sentience. Other suits are given simple and straightforward acronyms like: WC (White Comet), DP (Divine Prayer), SD (Shadow Dash), SK (Shadow Knight), DJ (Darkbolt Jonin) etc...
  • The Herrschers are also called "Hershey" for short.
  • "The Big Three" for the main trio consisting of Kiana Kaslana, Raiden Mei, and Bronya Zaychik.
  • The overlapping playerbase between Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact would also call one character with the name of a character from the other game, usualy those with similarities. For example:
    • Raiden Mei is jokingly being called "Inazuma Archon" or "Electro Archon" even within the Honkai community.
    • Another common nickname calls Wendy as "Venti", and it was given a nod by miHoYo during a quiz mini-game of an event; a question asks the identity of the Herrscher of Wind, and the available options are "Wendy" and "Venti".
    • "Painter Ganyu" for Griseo due to their hair style and hair color apparently resembling each other.
  • Li Sushang and Susannah Manatt are both called "Sus" as a shorthand of their names.

Specific Playable Characters and Gameplay Mechanics

  • A Post Honkai Odyssey's Main Character:
    • The player can provide an in-game name for the Main Character of the "A Post-Honkai Odyssey" mode, but within the online Honkai circles, he's commonly called using some popular choices of names:
      • "Adam", because he is supposedly named "Adam" in the game files, at least according to some. This has seen more credence when a specific ad for the game also labeled him as "Adam".
      • Other names for him are "Nero" and "Deadweight" once players noticed how his animations and moves are identical to Nero's from the Devil May Cry series.

  • Bianka "Durandal" Ataegina:
    • "Dumb Goose" (呆鵝) by Chinese players thanks to the last part of Durandal's name sounding similar to it.
    • English fans have also taken to using similar goose-based monikers for her, such as "Duck", likely as an extension or mutation of said Chinese nickname.
    • On the English-speaking side, Durandal often gets called "Doo Doo" (or "Dudu" as an alternative spelling), originating from a throwaway joke in the English translation of the London Holiday manga.
    • "Juan" and "Juan Kaslana" for Krishna, her war horse companion introduced near the end of the "Thus Spoke Apocalypse" arc, and is summoned during the Knight Mode of her Palatinus Equinox battlesuit. It's derived from the memetically viral photo of a horse on a balcony captioned with "Juan". The surname "Kaslana" is added as a reference to the revelation of Durandal being the original Kiana Kaslana.

  • Bronya Zaychik:

  • Elysia:
    • "Honkai Jesus", "Pink Jesus" - Elysia has plenty of allusions to Jesus Christ, which were scattered or hinted at long ago. However, these nicknames mostly gained traction or resurgence on September 2022 after the entire Elyisan Realm and Elysium Everlasting Story Arcs concluded with Chapter 31, followed by a Reddit post compiling the allusions.

  • Fu Hua:
    • "Bird" and its Internet slang "Birb" are common short nicknames for any Fu Hua battlesuit/variant due to her association with birds, including The Phoenix. Some variant nicknames are also used for a specific version, such as "Herrscher of Birb" for the Herrscher of Sentience.
    • Although her name is officially spelled as Fu Hua in the English localization, the English fans still call her "Fuka", her Dub Name Change in the Japanese dub version.
    • "Butler Fuka" for Fu Hua's Night Squire battlesuit, the most masculine battlesuit bar none.

  • Herrscher of Sentience:
    • The Herrscher of Sentience lacking a name of her own is commonly referred to as just "Senti" by the fans as a shortened form of her Herrscher title which also became a Ascended Fan Nickname.
    • "Yatta" and "Yatta Girl" are also popular nicknames for the Herrscher of Sentience, derived from her "Yatta!" voice clip becoming a meme.
    • "Herrscher of Scam" - Based from the Herrscher of Sentience's Establishing Character Moment in the "Estival Seaside Amusement Park" event where she initially pretends to be a street vendor and rips you off by selling junk.

  • Kiana Kaslana:
    • Kiana is often called "Tuna". The exact cause/source of this is unknown, but the common explanation is that her name sounds like "coaster" (the fish) in Chinese, which the English-speaking fans mistake for "tuna". There's also one strip in a series of unofficial comics (made by one of the official artists) where Kiana is shown as a fish with her distinctive hair. It's often also a shorthand for her "adorably dumb" qualities.
    • Herrscher of the Void is often called "God Kiana" (as she's based on God Kiana of Guns GirlZ) and "Salty Tuna" because she's only available through Expansion Supply and she's very powerful. The Chinese also calls her "Void Queen" (or just "Queen") and "NaCl", the latter mainly because "God Kiana" spells out similarly to NaCl in Chinese, and NaCl obviously stands for salt.
    • Keeping with Kiana's tuna nicknames, her Herrscher of Flamescion battlesuit is commonly called "Grilled Tuna" since it deals fire damage. Fans have also been calling it the "Herrscher of Family" since the lead up to her new form put a big emphasis on the bond between her friends and family.
    • "Kiana Reeves" because Kiana's name sounded very similar to the action star Keanu Reeves.

  • Mobius:

  • Raiden Mei:
    • "Aunt Mei" for her mature Time Skip appearance in the "A Post-Honkai Odyssey" mode, based on a dialogue where she felt awkward when she's called "aunt".
    • "Raiden Shotgun" for her playable chibi version from the "Once Upon a Time in Shenzou" event, due to Mei wielding a Spread Shot double-barreled shotgun. It's also a wordplay coined by Honkai fans who are also into Genshin Impact, as the latter game has the Raiden Shogun, a character who shares some similar concepts with Raiden Mei.

  • Rita Rossweisse:
    • Fallen Rosemary is the name of Quantum Rita's battlesuit, but many fans simply call her "Rosemary" as if it was her name, to distinguish her from the maid Rita of the main story.

  • Seele Vollerei:
    • Seele's Split Personality is officially named "Seele" in the narration and dialogue lines, but players mostly call her "Veliona" based on the Saule and Veliona modes of Seele's Stygian Nymph battlesuit.

  • Theresa Apocalypse:
    • "Teriteri" - Theresa's in-game nickname which is also used by the fans.

  • Yae Sakura:
    • "Donkey" - Yae has fox-like ears above her head, but fans joke that those are donkey ears and thus call her a donkey instead.
    • Goushinnso Memento is simply called "Mentos" since it's easier to remember.
      • Her Charged Attack is also called "Judgement Cut" because it's almost an exact replica of Vergil's iconic Iaijutsu move from the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4. On that note, "Vergil's Daughter" also became a common nickname for Sakura herself, but especially with her Memento battlesuit.note
      • "Blue Sakura" and "Blue Yae Sakura" are also rare nicknames for the Memento battlesuit due to its mostly blue color palette.

  • Griseo:
    • "Griseo Skywalker" - Griseo's older version due to using a Lightsaber

Weapons

  • Just like the Valkyries' fan nicknames, the weapons are mostly given acronyms and simple shorthands, especially for those with long official names. For example, the Xuanyuan Sword and the Dark Xuanyuan Sword are nicknamed "XY Sword" and "Dark XY Sword", respectively.
  • "Judah-chan" - Oath of Judah, based from the memes about treating the Cross weapon as if it's an actual playable Valkyrie due to its Game-Breaker status.

Major and Minor NPCs

  • Ai-chan:
    • "Cabbage" due to her green Odango Hair which resemble a pair of cabbages.

  • Kalpas:
    • His name is commonly spelled as "KalpASS" due to his well-defined assets in his 2D sprite.

  • Kevin Kaslana:
    • His name is comically spelled as "Kebin".
    • His Diabolic Kevin appearance earned him at least two additional nicknames:
      • "Devil Trigger Kebin" or "Debin" because of his form sporting horns and wings.
      • "Male Paimon" because of his white hair and the black four-pointed star symbol on his forehead being compared to Paimon of Genshin Impact.

  • Wendy:
    • Newer players (i.e those who started playing some versions after Seele was introduced) sometimes call Wendy "Green Seele" for her looks. Appropriately, she reminds Bronya of Seele.

  • Vita:

ELFs

  • Blade Durandal:
    • "Dabrandal" by some fans due to the pose she takes when she appears on the ELF selection screen.

Monsters and Enemies

  • "Pig", "Pig Honkai", "Ice Pig" - The Honkai Beast Parvati, which has the shape of a large warthog and uses ice-based powers.

Consumable Items

  • The "SS Imaginon" crafting material is commonly called "sunny side-up" because, well, it looks like one.
  • The "armada fuel" (the consumable item for playing Armada Matrix) is called "orange juice" due to its appearance.

Modes and Events

  • Recurring/rotating modes are also given acronyms, such as "MA" for Memorial Arena, and "ER" for Elysian Realm.
  • The "A Post-Honkai Odyssey" open world mode introduced in Version 3.8 was quickly named "Honkai May Cry" by some players, with a lot of the gameplay elements and moves being ripped straight from DMC.

Other

  • Although the acronym "PE" can refer to Durandal's Palatinus Equinox battlesuit, it's also interchangeably used to refer to the Previous Era, especially in lore-related discussions. Inversely, the Current Era is just shortened to "CE". As a result, some Characters are often prefixed with these (e.g. "PE Sakura", "PE Hua", "PE Himeko", "CE Himeko") to distinguish them from their selves or counterparts in the other Era.
  • Prior to Version 5.8 giving official names to the main overarching storylines, the fans came up with their own common titles for the story arcs, albeit in a simple "____ Arc" format. For example, what's later officially called the "Thus Spoke Apocalypse" story arc by Version 5.8 was nicknamed "Kolosten Arc" by fans because it takes place in Kolosten.
