- Daredevil:
- The hero's origin story involves a childhood accident with his face being struck by radioactive chemicals, blinding him.
- In Daredevil: End of Days, Echo mentions through a flashback how Matt once lost an eye in battle. She is also quick to point out the irony of this happening to a man who had no use of his eyes to begin with.
- Doctor Strange: Doctor Strange lost his left eye when the demon Ghaszaszh Nyirh blasted it with a bolt of energy. He wore an eyepatch for a while until Agamotto restored his eye (or more accurately, gave him someone else's).
- Ghost Rider: Inverted in the 90s Spin-Off Blaze; whenever the Eyeless Blind Seer Clara puts on the disembodied Kristall-Starrer eyes, they are shown crawling out of their jar and entering her non-existent eye sockets in vivid detail.
- The Incredible Hulk:
- Kaare Andrews' cover to Hulk (1999) #44 depicts an eye being threatened by a worryingly close scalpel
◊. - At the start of The Incredible Hulk (1968) #335, a woman is attacked by the Stalker, who slashes her in the eyes with his claws. She blindly runs out of the house and into the street, where she stumbles into the Hulk, who protects her from the Stalker.

- The Mighty Thor: Thor faced huge disasters everywhere, at the Avengers Disassembled tie-in, and sought the wisdom of Odin at the fountain of knowledge. He was told that Odin did not got the knowledge as a birthright, but with a huge sacrifice, his eye... so Thor gouged out his eye to the fountain. Nothing. Following the steps of someone else will not do it! Thor must make a greater sacrifice than that! So... goodbye to the other eye.
- Morbius: Because Morbius the Living Vampire isn't a real vampire, sunlight will not kill him outright, but he is highly sensitive to it. When monster hunter Robert Hellsgaard tortured him, he used a beam of purified sunlight shining in Morbius' eye to get him to spill all of his allies' weaknesses.
- Nick Fury: Almost every variation of Nick Fury has an eye injury to some extent, leading him to wear his now iconic eyepatch. For instance, the original lost his eye when a grenade blew up in his face. He could have saved it, but he rather keep fighting World War II.
- Original Sin: The event revolves around the murder of long-time supporting character Uatu The Watcher. It's eventually revealed that his eyes were graphically removed before he was killed.
- The Punisher MAX: The Punisher has done this several times. Castle gouges out Pittsy's eye with his finger, he cuts out Rawlins' eye during torture, and he stabs Barracuda in the eye with a penknife in a fight. Given the brutality of that series, there are half a dozen other instances.
- During the Kingpin arc, an unfortunate Mook winds up having his skull squeezed until his eyes pop out of their sockets. If that wasn't nauseating enough, readers are treated to several panels of him fumbling around with his eyes dangling by the optic nerve. He eventually manages to get them back into his head just in time to run into The Punisher.
- Harry Ebbing met Barracuda in prison over 20 years ago. On Harry's first day in prison, after being threaten by two inmates who made it clear that they planed on raping him as soon as they got the chance. Ebbing took upon himself to find the most dangerous inmate in prison and offered him large sums of money in exchange for protection. That inmate's name was Barracuda. The two aforementioned inmates were later found with their eyelids sewn shut. With each man's eye socket's turned out to contain the other's testicles. Their eyes were never found. And the worst part? Both men were left alive after this.
- One mainstream comic by Garth Ennis has a deranged man paying homeless people to lure other homeless into the sewers and kill them, heaping them into a giant pile of decomposing corpses that he uses like a nest. A fairly level-headed and pacifistic social worker confronts him and is so disgusted and horrified that she claws one of his eyes out in a blind rage. The man doesn't seem much bothered by it.
- Secret Wars (2015): In Ghost Racers, Alejandra Blaze promises Arcade she'll rip his eyes out in retaliation for being tortured. She eventually gets her wish.
- Secret Warriors (2017): Kamala Khan is strongly against killing. But she's evidently not above a vicious eye gouge. In the issues where Magik joins their group to look for Inferno's niece, Dark Beast sends some of his monsters at them. Kamala gives such a powerful poke to the eyes of one monster, that it destroys them and sends the monster flying back while black blood spurts out of them.
- Silver Surfer: In Silver Surfer Vol. 7 #3, he's fighting an alien ruler Incredulous Zed who has supernatural armour and sword from outside the universe. These items make him immune to the Silver Surfer's Power Cosmic. Unfortunately for Zed, the armour has an open faceplate, so the Surfer pokes him in the eyes, Three Stooges style. This being the Surfer, he only gives Zed a really light poke so nothing popped out and he recovered in time to see the Surfer stab him with his own sword.
- Spider-Man: In The Other story arc, everyone's favorite wall-crawler gets his own eye ripped out and EATEN IN FRONT OF HIM by Morlun. He gets better. Spidey gets his revenge in Spider-Geddon by jamming a tranquilizer dart in his eye.
- In the crossover between the X-Men and Teen Titans, the X-Men had dogpiled Darkseid, who is preparing to unleash his dreaded Omega Beams. Colossus, in his armored form, runs up and slams his hands over Darkseid's eyes just as he fires and burns Darkseid's eyes from the force of the Omega Beams.
- Ultimate X-Men (2001): Juggernaut got a poisoned dart to the eye, as the helmet had an open space in the eyes to let him see This killed him.
- Wolverine: In Wolverines #1, Daken has one of his eyes ripped out by Sinister, who takes it along with Wolverine's corpse for research purposes. Ordinarily this wouldn't be an issue for him, but in the last issue of The Logan Legacy, his Healing Factor had been stripped from him by Siphon.
- X-Men:
- In one book, Wolverine popped Sabretooth's eyeballs with his bone claws He'd lost his adamantium to the latter, complete with closeup.
- In another X-Men comic, a pair of demonic sentient binoculars vacuum suck out a man's eyes and use them as its own.
- Early in Psylocke's superhero career, she filled in for her brother as Captain Britain. The tenure didn't go too well and during a fight with her brother's arch-enemy Slaymaster, he stabbed out both her eyes and then proceeded to beat her nearly to death. Mojo later gave her cybernetic eyes, which transmitted what she saw back to him, letting him turn the X-Men's adventures into TV shows, giving him godlike status in his home realm. She kept these eyes for the remainder of her time in her original body, keeping their function a secret.
- A heroic example occurs with Kylun in the pages of Excalibur when the evil Necrom attempts to lure him into a trap with an image of his dead girlfriend, whom he killed in the first place. Kylun isn't fooled, and as Necrom is sneaking up behind him to drain his life he lashes out with one of his magical swords, slashing Necrom across the face and putting out one of his eyes. Necrom sensibly flees the battle.
- The Age of Apocalypse's backstory involves Weapon X (Wolverine's counterpart) and Cyclops maiming each other badly with Cyclops blasting off Weapon X's left hand and Cyclops's codename becoming literal when Weapon X gouged out his left eye.
