Amphibia

Draco in Leather Pants in this series.
  • Grime imprisons Sasha for a month and doesn't set her free until he finds a use for her, after which he then encouraged her worst traits. Despite this, he is often portrayed as Sasha's supportive and awkward adoptive toad dad. This got a little less glaring once Grime's portrayal in season 2 showed more redeeming traits to his character, including genuine care for Sasha's well-being.
  • While Sasha did eventually undergo a Heel–Face Turn and Marcy was clearly on the heroes' side the entire time (just misguided), both were still responsible for some of Anne's initial toxic views of friendship, including hurting and betraying her throughout "True Colors". Even so, Anne wasn't any better than Sasha and Marcy, as she was constantly lazy and often relied on the former to make decisions for her, and acted apathetic towards the latter's interest and needs. With both faults leading to the events on hand. Yet many fanworks have Anne hanging around them way more then Sprig, and some tend to downplay how troublesome the three's relationship can be.
    • For the three's parallels with Andrias, Leif, and Barrel, there's also the fact that Sasha's two betrayals of Anne are clearly portrayed as malicious compared to Leif's reasons for doing so to Andrias, and unlike Andrias's claims about Barrel also hurting him when the latter didn't really do anything, Marcy actually did betray Anne (and Sasha) by not telling them about her knowledge about the music box and her true intentions with it.
  • Sasha Waybright, despite being a main antagonist for 2 seasons and purposefully deceiving everyone, is almost never portrayed this way by the fandom. She's usually portrayed as going through a redemption arc and coming from a toxic family home with Abusive Parents, which in turn causes the behavior she has in the show. Season 3 even lampshades this when Sasha lies to the inhabitants of Wartwood that Anne charged her to protect them from Andrias, and they forgive her. The Oblivious Guilt Slinging, plus reading Anne's diary that she left behind for the Plantars so they would remember her, causes Sasha to realize that she manipulates people and frogs to control them, but in the end, she loses the ones she cared about the most while thinking she was a good person and had a reason for her actions. She comes clean to Wartwood after saving their lives, and they point out that her redemption has started for real because despite lying to them, she protected them anyway.
  • Marcy Wu is almost always portrayed in a positive light as an unfortunate victim of circumstance, with some fans brushing off the fact that she willingly transported her friends and herself to Amphibia without their consent and that she was still willing to keep them in Amphibia even after learning Anne's hardships and desire to go home, only displaying regret when her plan blows up in her face and she gets called out. A lot of fans also tend to ignore her selfish tendencies, since Marcy makes up for it by saving Sprig's life, activating the Calamity Box so that Anne would make it back home even if Marcy didn't want her to leave, and using her seemingly dying breath to apologize for everything.
  • Almost immediately after "True Colors", the Boonchuy parents were, outside of the antsiest of adaptions, depicted as universally the "good parents", partially as a result of the Wu parents' entrance into the opposite role (see below), and the Waybright parents having been there for a while. Anne's parents were universally depicted as perfectly accepting and supportive of everything that could come up with their daughter, up to and including her dating both Marcy and Sasha, and being nothing but supportive and caring towards Marcy and Sasha unlike their own parents, where up until this point the most we've seen or heard about them came in regards to Anne flashbacking about bits like ''annoying her mom to a point she gets sent to martial arts classes" and "Anne being asked to do laundry". The debut of the third season adjusted the trend with the Boonchuys' actual personalities and dynamic with Anne, but the general motif of "the best parents" continues with the two being placed on a pedestal compared to the absent, mostly demonized, Wu and Waybright parents.
    • Specifically, while she's clearly a good parent, Mrs. Boonchuy's strictness is sometimes downplayed in fanworks. At least a few episodes show how strict she can get, especially in "Anne-sterminator", which also includes a scene where Anne briefly wonders about not living up to her mom's expectations when seeing a statue of her dressed like a doctor in the latter's workout room. Fanfics in general will depict her letting Anne get away with things she should logically give Anne hell for, like skipping out of school and needlessly endangering herself, usually if it involves Sasha and or Marcy.
  • Speaking of which, Anne Boonchuy has been seen as a completely innocent and perfect angel while Sasha and Marcy are horrible friends who deserve all of the blame for her misdeeds, regardless of whether or not they were even there, by most of the fans ever since the beginning of the series. Anne has also been seen as always being unconditionally supportive of her friends and family. Contrary to that, Anne has made many stupid selfish, and even questionable decisions on her own free will, such as faking illness to get out of work, leaving Marcy to research the Calamity Box on her own, to have fun with the Plantars while Marcy loses sleep "just like group projects back home", and like Sasha she can be manipulative towards Marcy and the Plantars at times. She almost left Sprig to die when she first met him. Sells him to marry Maddie for pizza dough, despite his obvious discomfort around her, saying "Sprig's eternal happiness is a small price to pay for pizza." As well as force him to date Ivy based on what she thought and "information" from her magazines, despite Sprig constantly telling her they were just friends at the time, also while he was still engaged to Maddie; which Sprig lampshades. She also slacked-off in school, misbehaved a lot even as a little kid, and can sometimes be rude and self-centered towards others. But fans tend to ignore her flaws and selfish tendencies as Anne usually learns her lesson from her mistakes, and becomes a better person in the end and protect the people she loves. However, fans still tend to use Sasha and Marcy as an excuse for Anne's selfish decisions, misbehavior, and character flaws.
